New hood

Well had been thinking about getting a new hood since i bought my truck but never got around to it.
Well after last night I am in the hood market. Last night I was driving and a braqnch on a major road fell right on my truck as i was passing under it.

Not sure if i should report it to the insurance company yet. My deductible is 500 and i know that it might reach twice that price, but i worry about future premiums. I am not sure if they would even be able to go after the city or whatnot.

Now i have a decent idea what i want for a hood and this is a good thread i found that features most of them. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ighlight=hoods

2 big questions though about hood upgrades. First, what are the advantages and disadvantages to fiberglass versus steel. I am leaning towards steel for strength. Is the srt 10 hood all steel? Also, i have been thinking about getting my hood line xd to match rockers that i want done. this would save me some paint cost as well and also make the weight savings of a fibeglass hood N/A. Anyone else done this or seen it done? (even thought about the roof too.)
Thanks for any help.

Look in the classified's there is one for sell there don't know where you're located though I think they only want $500 for an SRT-10 Hood... If I was closer it would be mine right color and everything... SHane

Not sure what brand it was but I saw a fiberglass hood with a scoop the other day and I have to say the fit was lousy.. the hood gap on the corners and bends was very bad.. close in some sopts and wide in others..

It was the hood not the instalation..

That SRT10 hood is the same color as your truck! You won't find a better deal on one than what's in the classifieds here!!!!!!

I've thought about a fiberglass hood. It just depends on how you feel about your hood either cracking and breaking or denting and bending. A quality fiberglass hood could probably hold up better than the stock one can (because of the thin sheetmetal). On the other hand a poorly made one could crack and splinter on you over time. I'd personally go with the SRT-10 hood because it's steel (I think). I just don't trust fiberglass, but that's just my opinion.

I would go with a steel hood, fiberglass hoods WILL crack or break around the hinges eventually. Some of them are so poorly made that they are never straight after they are painted, and you will notice that everytime you drive the truck you will be staring over the wavy hood. Fiberglass is for race cars

I have a steel srt10 hood and my wife has a fiberglass ram air hood on her mustang. I wish I would have gotten her a steel hood. the paint chips very easily on the fiberglass and it is not a perfect form. my srt10 hood is perfect and no chips to date.

Excellent responses thanks! Metal hood narrows it to the srt10 hood and the reflexion cowl induction hood.

Now hOw does the vent kit work with the srt hood? is it just removing the plate? modify it? any links would be great.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but a falling branch should be covered by the comprehensive portion of your insurance, and does not affect premiums. I suggest you call you're agent and find out out for sure. Calling is free...

Go after the city yourself... Take lots of pictures of the tree the branch came off, the location and position your truck was in, and of course the damage it did, and march on down to city hall with a couple of quotes on the repair of the old hood, and a couple more on the cost of a new one. Stuff it all in a briefcase or something and present yourself as if you were a lawyer or you were on Judge Judy.
Or even better yet... Drag the tree branch in there with you and tell them, "uhh I think this belongs to you, I found it on top of my truck." with a huge grin on your face and dollar signs in your eyes...

After all is said and done, get the SRt10 hood.
