hey everyone
im new here and am a first time diesel owner. i just bought a '01 2500 4x4 auto SWB ext. cab.
im looking for some easy mods like straight pipe and stuff. any suggestions would be great, thanks!

Hi and welcome, and congrats on your truck!!
As far as I know, the 01's can still have the KDP problem. Do a search for "KDP" or "Killer Dowel Pin" and read up. It will only cost a 50 bucks to fix and you can get it done in a day easily if you work fast (unlike me).
You should also look into installing a fuel pressure gauge so that you can watch out for your fuel pressure. If you loose pressure it can cause your VP44 pump to overheat and well thats a $1000+ fix.
Hope thats a start, many others will chime in.

Welcome to DTR Blake. Just be patient, there'll be lots of folks along shortly to help you spend your money. When you can, go to your user cp and fill in your signature. It will keep you from retyping the info all the time.

heres a picture of it. im gonna need new tires soon and ill probably go with a 285/75 instead of the 265s on it now.
ive got a few feet of 3" exhaust pipe that i might try to use for muffler delete if its big enough
the only thing im worried about is that it wont sound right being an automatic. my buddy has a 3rd gen with straight pipe but its a manual so it sounds great.
any ideas or suggestions would be great

I'm a newby on the site too 
congratulations on the new ride, she sure is good lookin! Take your silencer out, it sounds better! That's the first thing I did before my intake. Also for 15 bucks you can buy this little brass elbow for your turbo that lets you hold higher psi w/out your wastegate opening! =)

what do yall think about the louder sound on an auto. since the TC slips and the shifts are pretty smooth it seems like it would be a pretty mono-tone sound.
doesnt it seem to lose the effect without the shift lag?
also, does deleting the turbo silencer ring and muffler change any of the hp/tq numbers?

Silencer ring, no. Muffler, yes. I can here mine switch gears just fine. Of course it is much more profound with a manual

hey man welcome, My mane is Dayton and we pretty much have the same truck except mine is standard, the only thing i have done power wise is a Diablo Sport Power Puck. It was 50 extra horse, but it is an awsome differene and it took 10 minuets to install. I got mine at thoroughbreddiesel.com fo $165 on sale, you should check it out. Welcome. I am pretty new myself. This is a great site and i have learned very much from these guys. I bought my first diesel 2 weeks ago and love it. It already had no mufflers or cats. All i can tell you at this time is that it sounds like a big rig. But amazingly quiet in the cab with the windows up. Ditch the mufflers. You'll love the sound.

Oh ya i heard removing the silencer is good for about 5hp.
Waxing your truck will get ya about 5hp more too.
And i heard that those racing stripes are good for about 100hp

my girlfriends dad has a 2001 3500 dually manual and he did the geno's straight pipe, k&n drop in filter, and edge programmer - good bit more power
he told me that if i wanted to do anything power related i need to look into a new TC first. any suggestions?
