Hello and welcome to the forums. I believe you are talking about the serpentine belt? I got mine at Autozone for less than $40. I got the gatorback from goodyear. Not sure which one you need though as you don't have any info posted about your truck.

My truck is a 2005 quad cab 4x4. Would you have a part number for your belt ?

Please fill in your sig and tell us more about your truck. Sounds like you have become of victim of the "shredded belt" syndrome that has afflicted many of us 04.5 - up owners. Do a search here under my name (wexman+belt) and you will find links to MANY threads. Same over on TDR.

When mine went, there was no fix except to put a new belt on (mine went at 5400 miles), but there is apparently now a fix which involves installing some override pulley.

Your dealer should cover it under warranty. FWIW, my replacement belt has been good for almost 15,000 miles now (Knock wood) but I DO check it weekly.

Actually, it isn't my belt, it is my neighbors. He needs a belt. After seeing his belt do this, I am going to carry a spare.

I got some part numbers now. w/AC Goodyear 4081261 Metric 8PK3202 MOP-53041138 Gates k081265

Thanks for your help.

Get the Gates. If you ever go out of town you'll be sorry you bought a cheap one from Autozone. I know Napa, O'reillys and Carquest carry Gates.

Im prob gonna buy a spare also and keep it in my toolbox, just in case.

I haven't had any trouble with mine in 39,000 miles and I hear the "chirp" almost every shut down. Also, what is the recommended time or miles to replace the belt?

Theres not one.look at the FLAT smooth side of the belt.If the lines can be seen its time to replace. Some at 150k I've seen were just getting thin.(Used to reccomend between 60k and 90k )I think there is a TSB on a pully change on the belts that jump a rib or two and start to shread.

I had this happen at 700 miles! It looks like the factory was putting the belt on with one rib outside the pullys. DOOH!

Haven't had a prob since now at 11k miles.

There is NO room for error when installing these belts. Like Hounddog said, there is now a "fix" for the shredding issue. Although (knock wood) I haven't had any more problems, and I never had any fix. Just a new belt.
