New Edge j/a-do I need to J-hook my hy?
I'm confused, I'm not sure if I need to J-hook my turbo once I put on my new edge juice w/ attitude to get the most boost possible. I have searched the threads here, but not sure of others results once they have completed the job. And what possible problems should I be aware of other than my tranny will be the next weakest link? TIA.

I think they say you dont need to, but you will only hit 20ish psi if you dont, because thats where the stock actuator will start to open. I ran a super heavy spring (I had one laying around in the garage) from the wastegate arm to the alternator bracket, I used lock wire to hold the wastegate arm to the spring, it was orginally done over a yr ago so I could see if purchasing a j-hook was worth it, at the time I only had an EZ and jammer II's, I hit 28-30 with my edge now, and I never bothered to remove the spring and the truck works well, if the lock wire breaks, I'll replace the wire...so far so good.
back to your orginal question, yes it helps keep the EGT's in check, but you cant push the HY too far as it will be way out of its effeciency map, and you will just be blowing hot air. I believe they state the HX is good till about 35psi so I tried to keep mine under 30psi. also I think the edge instal manual says you dont need to install the boost elbow even on a hx, I'm sure others who are more knowledgeable on the subject will chime in

28-30 sounds good to me! I can only hit 21 with my set up and i'd love a few extra lbs till i get the new turbo.
Nickg, does your spring keep your wastegate completely closed? Or just closed till you hit higher psi? Ive heard about people blocking off there wastegates completely and that just doesnt sound like a good idea to me. Rollie, with your intake exhaust and FASS and soon to come extra chip power, tranny is the next step for sure.

the spring keeps the gate closed, as the factory actuator has an internal spring that keeps the gate closed, once the boost hits the pre-set psi it will overcome the internal spring opening the gate allowing the extra exhaust pressure to exit thru the exhaust, and that lowers the boost in the intake mainfold. so by adding a spring it means the boost has to be higher to overcome the actuator to allow boost to decrease. on the 01(automatic) it has the metal line from turbo to actuator so you cant unhook the "hose" like you can on the HX turbo

Yes you want a j hook! otherwise you'll just be blowing black smoke and get high egt's. 35 lbs never hurt my hy for the year and a half i had it with the juice. You wont get an overboost code unless the edge isn't doing its job.

How easy is the install for a light weekend mechanic on an hy-35?
What do you guys think of boost foolers such as the one quadzilla makes? Will a j hook pretty much do the same thing? Is it a better idea to do one over the other or both at the same time?

boost fooler is not needed if you have an edge box, the j-hook just allows the turbo to make more boost, and its a simple instal

Cause the edge should make sure that i dont throw any codes right? So the Jhook giving me more lbs will be countered by the juice telling the ecm everything is all good. Right?
