New Dodge Owner...05 QC
Hey all just wanted to stop in to say hi. I just recently purchased my 2005 QC Cummins diesel, and man am I happy. I had a 2003 F-150 prior, and had trans problems, rear problems, you name it I had it.
Anyways, I've only had her for 2 days, and the MPG indicator is reading that I'm getting 18.2 combo between highway and city so I'm happy with that as I was only getting like 8 in my F-150. Now as for gas mileage (which is the main selling point on this truck) Is there anything to be really done to increase MPG.
I want to keep this truck pretty much stockish. I have a 2000 z28 with 426 to the wheels I'm more than happy with.
What intakes out there are the best that will give good miles per gallon.
What exhausts are best. Now I don't want stacks, as much as I love them, I just don't want to cut up the bed of my truck. I was thinking of dual 5 inch tips out the rear would look kind of cool.
Also, what causes a diesel to really throw out black smoke.
Are there any free mods that could be done to the truck.
Any help is appreciated as I'm really enjoying this truck.
Thanks all

i am fairly new here too. i have a 05 QC too. I have done some mods you can see in my sig. I wanted to keep mine quite and the Rokktec muffler is. You can get by with just a muffler becasue you already have 4" exhaust. The black smoke is unburnt fuel not good for MPG.
I will warn you the power is addictive. this is my first diesel and i love my truck.
This site has been very helpful there is alot of knowledge here.

Not really looking for quiet. I'd like the diesel to be louder, and hear the turbo more. I'm not looking to go crazy, just maybe intake and exhaust. Don't want to start breaking anything. This truck has to be my reliable car

best way to hear the turbo more is an intake.. either an afe or look up "****** whistler" on this site. As far as exhaust bigdan is right. The stocker is more than adaquate but this is america.. bigger is better.. I would say MBRP or Silverline if you want nice throat and better looks. Stay away from banks unless you have money to burn.

have a look at my add on's, once the truck broke in, 50,000km, i started at about 18mpg average, with the intake and 4" out back i went up 1.5, with the mild chip from Edge and the box cover i am averaging 25 but like the man says, it is hard to keep from playing once you feel that diesel power.

Another change you could do is to straight pipe the exaust.
Geno s has a part for that.
You can also gut the tube from the air filter to the turbo.
Simply cut the fins out and reinstall.

There are lots of options out there for exhaust. You can go with singles or duals, cat back or turbo back, aluminized or stainless. You mentioned doing duals with 5" tips - that would look great! Any of this sites supporting vendors should be able to set you up...and we're always here to help answer questions.

Duals I think are the route I would like to go with her. As for tuners, will tuners net much better MPG's? I've seen the Edge Attitude, and my buddy says with stacks, intake, and the edge he is getting 22-23 mpg. Is that accurate????
