about the new diesel
i have started seeing stickers that say something on the lines of do not use if newer then 2007. Any way what i am getting to is what is the difference and from what i have been hearing that it will mess up all of my seals. what do i need to do? i am thinking just add some cetane boost or about a gallon or 2 of used motor oil.

This is the source of much needless worry, you don't have to do anything at all.
The stickers you are seeing only indicate that the pump still has the same low sulfur diesel that it's had since 1994.
Even when the new ultra low sulfur diesel starts appearing more and the sticker changes saying that the fuel is ok for 2007 engines you need not do anything.
By law the fuel must have the same lubricity as the old fuel

That sticker would sure scare me if I were driving a 2007 rig though! Its blatantly clear that you should not run that fuel in a 2007 diesel. It says it will damage your engine.
The attendant that I spoke with says that all the guys with the newer trucks drive away and get new gas elsewhere.
Why would the newer trucks require the newer fuel? Buildups maybe?

From what was told to me the sulfer level was dramaticlly dropped from 500 parts permillion to 15 ... and that is what lubes our injectors ...
I did notice a smell in the new diesel ...I started to add a quart of 2 stroke oil to every tank .

The level of sulfur does nothing for the fuel, it's the act of removing it that lowers the lube value of the fuel. The refiners are well aware of this and add back lube agents.
High sulfur fuel will clog the particulate scrubbers that will be required on all new onroad diesel engines starting Jan 1, 2007. So far very few of these engines are on the road.
By the time the vehicles with scrubbers are on the road the new ultra low sulfur diesel will be widely available. In fact many of us are using it now without their knowledge.
