Dodge needs a good auto to compete they should have put it up against the 6spd HO!!

as far as automatic trannys go, dodge is getting left in the dust. man, how dumb are they?

I know they need a good 5 speed auto! I know they could make one or hell if not they could at least buy one! The sad thing is people will read that article and assume that it is true for all dodges and make dodge look bad when in reality it is just true for the stock autos!! the manuals are another story!

Maybe the new 48RE will be up to snuff.
Maybe thats the reason for the delay, working out some bugs.
Time will tell.

phox

The new Ford 5-speed auto is supposed to be one hell of an automatic. 6 years in the making... I think they've got all the bugs worked out, KC. I would be pretty interested and at least feeling how this new tranny acts. I had the 4R100 in my F-350 and I thought it was a pretty **** good auto.

yeah. Put it up against the HO and see how it does. I don't think the Ferd will be on top anymore. And even if it does still win, I'd still take a Dodge. Just one with a six speed. Why don't they compare manual to manual? All come with 6-speeds.

I would still wait, Allison has been make trans for years but Chevy is still have problems with them! Ford has not mass produced them yet. I have owned a ford and its a great truck but after 20 new cars/trucks over the years I have had my problems with first year models!

Well the ford would have still probably came out on top since it has the most power out of the three, but I was still dissapointed in the test. Dodge needs to really get there stuff together with the auto. Just about all of the doges my friends have are 5 or 6 speeders. All the PSD's are auto's and durajaps are auto's.I actually wanted the 6 speed ford but was unable to find one in the config I wanted. BTW saw a 6 speed durajap today at the dealer, only me second to ever see. I was parked beside it and this thing looked like a toy.(CC 4X4 shorty) And commenting on the new year thing my 95 PSD had alot of motor problems from day one even though the DITD model of the 7.3 had been out since the 94.5 model.
I am very happy with my new truck now that I have it,(I was a die hard ford guy) but after looking at the bottom end of a PSD and a cummins my mind was made.
Chase

Did you really expect anything else from a ford sponsered test? Get real..........

I would take the Cummins 03 anyday of the week over that complicated piece of junk that ford calls there "new" Powerstroke, hell the old one was a junkpile too!! (experiences helping friends trying to fix them!)

--Justin

Like many of you, I read that "test and evaluation"
of the three trucks yesterday. By what they wrote,
the new Ford PSD (6.0 Diesel) does look impressive.

However, I would like to point out that Clint Cannon
@ATS recently purchased a Chevy Duramax with the
Allison Transmission. In testing and drag racing that
Chevy, he found that the Allison was "slipping" when
they "turned up the power" on it. It was necessary
for them to put in one of their "TripleLok" Converters
plus some other things to make that tranny perform
better. I wonder how the new Ford Auto 5-speed
will hold up under abuse???

--------
John_P

slipping in 5th gear. maybe the lock up clutch too? those allisons aren't all that they are cracked up to be, but at least are the most reliable transmissions in stock form....so far.

i keep telling myself "don't get excited for the Ford".. ;D

after seeing all the trobles my firend with powerstrokes are having, I would be scared to own one. Me or my family have never had good luck with them. The new fords don't look to bad though but i still have not gotten use to the new dodge look. But That powerstroke seems to just be a pile so i can't ever see my self owning one. But we shall see. It might be a nice truck or it might be a really big POS. just my 0.02 -Anthony

I wish we could have seen how are 6spd compares to ford and GM. Are auto got beat down. I think the 6spd would have put up a great fight if not win but I could be wrong. After seeing are # compared to Ford and GM on the auto I am kind of surprised. But I hate auto so I guess i have not to worry about. But I hear the HO puts out 305Hp and 555 ft. lbs torque. I guess I hate to hear that we are losing in that area. Ok I am going to bed. good night all -Anthony

dieseldude4x4,

I agree with you about the Ford sponsored test. The Dmax, or Dodge either one with a one mile head start and the Ford catches up in three miles. I haven't done the math, but how fast did that Ford have to be going to make up a mile in just three???

Bill

Here's something that Allison does have and it's a CopyWrited design... When an Allison is in direct drive it is 100% power transfer, basically. The clutches get locked in mechanically to and have a cone (I can't think of the name of it) It's a cone chaped contrapton that locks in over the clutches and makes it to where there's no way to slip the clutches after they're engaged. But this is only in direct connect so I hear, so I guess the remaining gears are prone to being burnted up and destroyed. But minus the TC, the Allison in DD should hold all the power in the world.
