New 2004.5 6 speed with main seal leak

Just purchased a 2004.5 CTD with 6 speed manual transmission. I currently have 400 miles on the odometer. I've noticed a oil leak between the bell housing and the motor. It;s either the main seal on the crank or the seal on the transmission shaftl. I'm kind of leaning toward the trans shaft seal simply because the oil is not black ... it looks cleaner.

One other thing is this truck sits under the carport and we experenced extremly cold weather the past week. Temps were down to 0 degrees most every night this week.

Could it be the cold shrinking the seals ?????

Well, mine doesn't leak when it's cold...

I assume it's under warranty?

If it were mine, I would take it in.

Is it leaking oil on the ground or is it just damp around the bottom of the bellhousing? Could be assembly lube used during manufacturing. Mine did it and so did others with the 6spd. Put some more miles on the truck and see if it goes away.

Dont forget the blow by tube on a new truck ozzing oil out! It will leave fresh oil spots on the floor.

Also check the rear of the valve cover for a leaking gasket. The oil drips down the back of the engine and exits in the area that makes you think it is a leaky rear main seal.
