It's about time for a new set of tires for my rig. I'm looking for some recommendations. I'm currently running LT265 70/17 E Michelin ATX A/S. They are ok but don't do very well in offroad situations. I haul a 4 horse gooseneck trailer with a small living quarters (30' OAL) and a 34' Laredo fifth wheel camper. I was looking at the BFG AT in a comparable size (might go up to 285 if available), but don't know how they hold up hauling the load. Any recommendations?

I had BFG A/Ts on my 2500HD and they only lasted 21,000 miles. I was surprised because I've ran alot of the BFGs on half tons and they always lasted 50,000+.

IMO the 2500/3500 series trucks are too heavy for BFGs.

My absolute favorite tire for HD trucks is the Toyo M-55. Fairly quiet,good wet traction,great snow traction and good in light mud.

The only come in a 265/70/17 right now or I'd have them on my truck. I email Toyo about once a week asking for a 285 or 295. They just keep saying they don't know if they'll make a taller size.

I've had similar good results with BFG tires on my 1/2 ton trucks and Jeeps over the years, that's why I was swaying toward them again. I've heard several good things about the M-55 Toyo's. What are you running currently?

Currently I'm running Nitto Terra Grapplers in 285/70/17 "E" load range.

Other than tire wear and durability (terrible) they're a decent tire. They seem to be another tire thats too soft for a 3500 series truck. I've had them since this time last year and at 15,000 miles they're almost done. I'm hoping to get to 20,000. I've also had 3 flats with them. I'm running 3000 mile rotations and drive like a 34 year old grandpa. No burnouts or aggresive driving.

They have good wet/snow traction and are decent in light mud. If they lasted longer and were more puncture proof, they'd be a much better tire.
I expect much better life at $195 a pop.

I do not know how you can kill a set of BFG AT KOs in 21,000 miles. My current set of 285/70/17 BFG AT KOs have 48,000 miles on them with another 10-12k left. I run 65psi and rotate every 7,500 miles. They have been aired down/up countless times for running on the beach and perform great towing our camper.

Exactly what I run. I've only got 10K miles on mine...still look new.

While I can't comment on ultimate lifespan yet, I can tell you that they perform great off-road. Aired-down, I can tow my junk into the sand at Pismo and have never come close to getting stuck. They work great in hard-pack as well.

The Good Year Silent Armor have 50k warranty, very good across the borad, quit. OK in light mud. Nothing is good in heavy mud, except a mud tire.
I have 50k on my Nissan Frontier 4x4(4,000lbs) with BFG AT/KO. Another thumbs up here!

I run the BFG KO 265/70/17 E on my 2500 and it was night and day difference i the **** stock Michelins that came on the truck. I pull my 5th wheel in forrest roads in nothern NM and they are very greasy but these tires do very well and the Mich were worthless up there.

True...they're Load Range D but the weight rating is very close to the "E" All-season Michelin tires that my truck came with.

Nitto has the new Dura Grappler that is supposed to be really good.

The Goodyear Silent Armor Pro grade come in many sizes and have a higher load capacity then the stockers. They have a 50,000 mile warrenty and are American made. I got them a couple weeks ago and I love them. They are quiet and have good snow traction but I haven't tried them out in the mud yet. Also, they are a little bit cheaper then the BFGs.

I have over 40k now on my BFG MTs... I rotate every now and then (so that's once in their life)... I drive hard and tow heavy...

My next set will be exactly the same as I have now in probably another 20000 or so miles... Great tire!!

I am really suprised no one has mentioned the Toyo Open Country A/t.

I have ran MANY sets of them and never had any issue and wear is always good. I have never ran a set of BFG's that lasted on anything except for a toyota and a 1/2 ton Chevy that loved them. Then again it also ran a ton of miles on the toyos. That truck was just plain easy on tires

My current tires are 285 Dakota Definities and have 68000 miles on them. And I also tow a 4 horse slant load all the time behind my truck. I'm switching to the new General Grabber AT2's the next go around. They have a 50,000 mile warranty like the Definities.
