Unhappy Need to start saving for a torque converter.....

.....'cause I think mine is starting to slip.

I hopped on the freeway this afternoon and got on it pretty hard to pass a bunch of slow vehicles on the ramp, and at about 70-75 mph and lots of throttle with Smarty Jr on Performance (100 h.p.) I felt a shutter that went away once I got out of it. I noticed it the other day also but didn't think anything of it. What do you guys think? Is it about time to call Dave Goerend?

Talking Build for Twins?

Tough break Pauly, but you take this opportunity if you have the cash handy (ya i know funny right) you could always build the transmission to support TWINS!!!

That'd be nice, but I'm gonna have a hard enough time springing for a converter and valve body! I think I'm going to try to expense the valve body through the company, but the torque converter is gonna be on my dime.

FWIW, Goerends is lifetime warranty on the triple disc converter... so it won't be on your dime again.

I'll slip mine from time to time on accident, and I've been doing it for 20,000k? so don't get too worried that it's gonna give up on ya shortly. Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself by saying that

It's weird to me that you felt it when you were going 70-75 MPH? You should've felt it at a far lower RPM and then had it smooth out once your RPM's were up. Or did I misunderstand and you punched at 70-75 and that's when it shuttered?

I could be off on the speed, but I do know it didn't slip until locked in 4th.

Well I hate to say it, but you will really need to take a good look inside to see what is really wrong. Probably is the TC, but the OD clutches usually are toast by the time the TC starts slipping from the Transmissions I have watched rebuilt.

I've heard you can stretch the 48re's for a while if you're careful. Probably not a sudden failure, but gradual (which probably doesn't make you feel much better) When you get the new trans maybe you can get the Smarty Sr I noticed a big difference between 90 HP and 130 HP setting.
It's all how you look at it!
It's nice to just worry about the torque converter ONCE, ie. Goreands Bros. Doesn't seem to be a big difference in cost either.

Hey Pauly, is this how it went: You get on it, stay in it, then when it locks up the TC in OD it kinda studders & once you get back out of it it's like nothing is wrong anymore? That's what mine is doing. I'm already on my 3rd factory TC(all before any mods) but I think it's time for #4! As soon as my warranty is up(about 5K more miles) I'll be giving Dave a call !

I want to, believe me. Just hard to dish out that kind of dough right now. Still recovering from Don's full leafpack
