Alright...I want Bilstein 5100s, but they'll set me back about $350 for the set (shipping to AK bites). As I have about $380 for this upgrade, I'm playing my options because I'm not going to get to do this again for another 100K miles or so...

That being said, do I:

1: Spend all my cash on 5100's, buy a 6-pack with whatever is left and live happily ever after?

2: Get a set of KYB MonoMax or KYB GasAdjust and a DSS or BD steering stabilizer?

Go Bilstein and don't look back!

I have use KYB shocks in performance cars (never in a truck). I liked them. The road feel was excellent and they never failed.

I can't imagine that the Bilsteins are that much better.

A steering stabilizer was about the first mod I made to my truck. It actually made an improvement in handeling.

In the long run, you're probably better off with the KYB's and the stabilizer.

But, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Apparently shipping a 20lb chunk of metal to AK is similar to mining gold, as it was stupidly expensive.

Long story short: Bilstein 5100s on the way

5100 made for nice handling ride but were just to stiff for me. With mt set up it's stiff enough. So I went with Ranch 5000 and ride is much smoother.

I figure the 315s I'm running weigh quite a bit more than the stockers, so the extra control should balance out nicely.

My last bout with Ranchos didn't go so well, and I haven't looked back. I hear they've gotten better with quality control, but I'm pretty much a 1 strike and out person when it comes to buying products for vehicles.

I have the 5100's on a stock truck with stock size tires. The front rides well, the rear is a bit stiff. I have thought about going to their softer yellow HD shocks in the rear but haven't gotten around it.
