Need some advice on this. Pulling a 30' gooseneck trailer 95% of the time with loads between 1,500 to 12,000#. Been takin a beating on these Louisiana roads.

Seems there are two popular choices.....Rancho and Bilstien


The Rancho's with there series 9000 or the new 9000X, or RSX seem nice. They are on sale now with a buy3 get 1 free offer till April.

Bilstien and there OEM replacment shocks in my opinion are the better deal. They do ride a little stiffer, but they give good control.

The Rancho RS5000s are somewhat stiff.

Bilsteins are nice.

I hear lots of good things about Edlebrocks.

I have been running KYB's for 5000 miles or so and I have to say I am not real happywith the ride. Way to stiff. I was going to get Bilsteins but couldnt find them local and didnt want to deal with shipping if they were wrong so I found these KYB Monomax's which are identical to the Bilsteins in specs and build. Plus I doubt the Bilsteins are any softer. The reason I'm not happy is they are way to stiff in the rear. The front is great but the back will pound you if you are running empty. I want the softer OEM feel in the rear again so I actually enjoy driving around. And hey I dont get the "If it doesnt ride like a truck then it's not a truck" thing either. I'm sure there are a few old timer ranchers out there that think if its got air conditioning or carpet then its not a real truck, too. I think the adjustability of the Rancho is what I'm looking for. Haul heavy then turn them up. Want a smoother ride then turn them down. Cant see the downside in that. I just ordered a set since they are offering the 3 for the price of 4 offer. But it's all personal preference.

You need to get over your INTERNET phobia, there is no reason to be afraid to order. If you really want to avoid the chance of a mistaken part, go to the manufacturers web site and look up what they offer. They decide on a product and get the catalog number. This way when you go to order from some one, you have the needed info to assure yourself of a correct order.

I'm not affraid of internet ordering, its just a pain in the neck if something isnt right, which happens way to often. Then you have to go to the UPS store or where ever and send it back. And if you have to pay then shipping can be expensive. Its just so much nicer when you can stand there and see what you are getting and decide if thats what you want. Not to mention having to wait for deliveries. For instance, I have been waiting for a shifter mounted switch for months and finally I get a package, OPPS! wrong part. Oh well off to the UPS store and wait some more! Nah... just give me a store and I'll drive there.

Oh yea and I forgot to mention the billion or so people that have nothing better to do then think of ways to steal your identity and credit card information. I have no phobia, I just think I'm being wise not to follow to close to the herd.

It's much easier to steal your credit card number offline. Ever hand your card to a waiter to pay for a meal? On-topic, I had the Edelbrocks on my 1500 and they were outstanding. I'll be ordering a set for this truck in a week or so.

Even if someone steals your credit info the credit card companies are very good about letting the illegal charges slide.

If the ranchos are on sale, where are they onsale from? Can I order them direct from Rancho? Cause I did some pricing last week at a couple places and the best deal I could get was 90 bucks a shock for a 9000, and no one said anything about buying 3 getting 1 free.

For the last five or so years the Rancho 4 for 3 sale has been in April.
It's put on by Rancho and all dealers should have the discount but some don't. Avoid doing business with vendors ever again that don't have the sale, they are still getting a kickback but not passing it on to you.

Rachos 9000x are the way to go for my gooseneck pulling. I run settings with 6 in the front and 8 in the back for 8k lbs.

They are the way to go because you can adjust to the conditions and weight.

I was told by a store that their reason for not giving the deal was Rancho doesnt give them 4 shocks for the price of 3 they just give them an extra shock. I didnt really get it or care to for that matter. I just looked for another store. I got mine from Sams offroad. Great price.
