Need new clutch which one to get??
Hey guys Just put a #10 plate with boost elbow in my truck. Now I need a clutch I was expecting I would need one but wanted to see the capablitly of the stock one not very good.
Anyway I am planning on doin a 3gsk for now. An probly some injectors and turbo and maybe a head gasket but that is down the road.
This truck is pretty much a toy. The biggest think I haul really is a camper and occasionllly and dump trailer hauling dirst usaully 12k. Want to know what you guys recommend for a good clutch. Wanna here some of the pro's and cons?
any info is greatly appreciated

I bought a FE from TRE diesel and got a DTR discount- made it the best price around =P I never actually installed it, but it was still a good deal

Valair is fairly newer. I havent heard or read of any problems with them.
I personally have a SBC Dual Disc. Thats only becaus I'm about an hour and a half from them. It makes it easy to get parts and help.

I also recently installed a Valair in a 92. I don't know what model, but its a ceramic button clutch. I don't like the way it grabs, but thats the nature of the clutch, thats why I went with a OFE.

On that note, I would also add that one would be hard pressed to hear any negative customer service stories about South Bend. They have SUCH a positive presence here, it's just about a dead LOCK you are going to get a top quality product with top notch service to go along with it.

I agree, and that's why I paid more for a clutch and bought it from SBC. Their combination of service and quality is tough to beat.
I have the Con FE, which is frankly more clutch than I need. But I'm not a hauler or tower, so I figured I could get away with it, and so far that has been true.
But the FE does tend to slip the tires on anything less than perfectly dry pavement. It's not a clutch that modulates well-- it wants to be either in or out.
That's why I think the OFE is about the best all-around combination going. It's smooth enough to do anything you'd want to do with your truck, and holds well.
I figured the extra toughness of the FE would buy me a little longer clutch life, so I went that route as I didn't need the extra smoothness of the OFE--but I'd recommend the OFE over the FE for its versatility.

If you tow at all or have to back a trailer I would stick with a OFE unless you dont mind using low 4wd all the time. Which I thought would get old is reason I went with 13" ofe
