Need a new Clutch
Need a new clutch for the 95 Dually. Truck has about 130K on it, sees weekly use pulling a cattle trailer, mostly a 16' bumper or a 28 foot featherlite goose, maybe 100 miles round trip, and not loaded heavily. Once in a while a 24' flat hauling bales and such. Purchased truck with about 110k on it, with supposedly a new clutch when the 5 gear problem was addressed a few years back. Previous owner used truck to pull a horse trailer rodeoing. Truck is pretty much stock, maybe a slight tweak but not much with 4.11 gearing.
Starting to chatter on take off and such, not major, but needs replaced non the same. Whats the latest and greatest for these trucks now. Thinking of giving south bend a call, but just wanted some opinions I guess.
Thanks,

Yes, call southbend or a distributor for SBC. I wish I would have put in a SBC in the beginning. I've had transmission out a handfull of times. For longevity and drivability, look at the 13" Con O. It comes with new flywheel and cutch. This is a 13" surface, which is larger than stock. It only cost me around $800 shipped, well worth it. I pull a lot of lbs and often. Mine has held up great. There are other more high performance clutches by SBC, but for you stock truck and moderate pulling, I'd go with the one above. Just my opinion.
Does "isu" in your user name stand for Iowa State University? Just wondering I went to school there.

I'm having the same problem. There's some slipping in 5th if I really get on the go pedal. I'm wondering how long the clutch will last in that condition if I baby it? I've a ~300 mile round trip to make this weekend and no time to replace the clutch beforehand. I'd like some level of certainty that I'm not going to get stuck.

Thanks for the input guys. That's what I have been hearing, just wanted to get the best, cuz dont really want to do this more than once. It seems napa and others arent any cheaper and dont really last.
Roughstock, yes it does mean Ia State. By your name ( assuming rodeo) and if you were ISU I am sure we have met in the past. Been out 2 years now.
halbritt, my personal opinion if its just slightly slipping and you aint pulling much, it should last at least 300 miles before you get no go or sever slipping. But thats just an opinion.

Well, Ive been out since 2001. Yes I rodeo, I rodeo broncs there and still do.
I still live near Ames. Where do you live now?
As far as stock clutches from Napa and such, they are ok, and can last a long time in certain applications, but not with the power of cummins and the abuse of pulling.
