My 2001 is on original batteries. I think they are finally giving up this winter. Before they die on me, I want to replace them. What to go for and where to get them?

Everyone has a different opinion. Mine is Wally World MAXX as the best for price, warranty, and avaliability. Buy two for power matching, charging purposes. JMHO

Glad you asked this question, I was going to ask the same thing.

This is probably a stupid question but is it possible to run one Optima Red 34/78 and one Blue 34 M together or is it best to get two of the exact same?

I have been happy with Autozone Duralast Gold. Optima redtops were just too much money.

For price & WIDE avaiability, I secound Wally world. Interstate is a good option. I like the sealed batteries that came with the truck, as they seemed to last a long time with little maitenance. I think they may be expensive fron Dodge.
Optima may be the best, but they are pricey. I am not sure if their life is any longer.

Hmmmm. WalMart. Hmmmm. Last summer I blew a tire on the 5th wheel and had to have one right now. 4th of July and WalMart was the only place open in the town we were going through, so that's where I went. While they were mounting the tire I wandered around their tire display. By gum, there were the exact same tires that were mounted on my pickup, and for the same price I paid four years and some 20,000 miles ago. At our local tire shop those tires were somewhere around $25 apiece more. A close look showed why. WalMart's tires had less tread on them that those on my pickup after 20,000 miles.

It makes me wonder if their batteries are the same. Cheaper, with less of what makes a battery last inside. Also, what is the warranty? Replacement cost, or pro-rated by age?

Oh, never mind me. I just consider WalMart the real Evil Empire of the world, and am suspicious of anything they sell cheap.

As for batteries - Interstate batteries have served me well.

If you have a little bit of free time, get some group 31 batteries. They are an inch bigger in all dimensions, so your battery trays will need some trimming. Longer reserve and higher amperage, so if you have any large draws, or cold winters, it will be a nice bonus.

Keep in mind the replacement Mopar batteries aren't the same as the ones that came in your truck originally. The replacements like to leak and destroy your terminals and hold-downs.

I had to put napa's in mine, kinda got caught off guard. But....... Where ever you go to get your batteries, try to get them with side posts as well. I am having a hell of a time hooking up all my accessories on my main top posts. Sure would be nice to have the side posts for accessory power and grounds!!!!

Just put a piece of plywood or osb in the bottom of your battery tray to lift your new battery up above the lip. Saw it mentioned on another thread, pretty good idea I thought

Those are my next batteries.

I have a friend who does alot of off roading, he uses Optima batteries. I asked him about them a while back, he said he has run his completely flat on multiple occaisons and was still able to charge them back up.

Mine were actually too long for the battery tray, I had to cut one of the verticle ends out of the tray.
