i got a 95 2500...i got the stock springs on there...i wanna beef that up...can i go to a scrap yard and get some leaf springs off a decent truck and put them on myself??...anyone see any problem with this??...i want about 4 extra on each side

(this is assuming the springs at the scrap yard arent rusted to bits.but good condition)

Why not go with a 2" add a leaf? Or air bags or timbrens? The add a leaf costs $43, air bags around $200-250, and Timbrens are $147. If you do add leaves, make sure and get the thinner ones, or the truck will REALLY rid like a brick!

thanx bud i'll check all those options out...that was a quick fix i blurted out..wanted to see what people would think...i dont nkow about u but i like that tilt that some of the tow trucks have when they go bananas with their leaf springs...i think it would look good on a 2500 what do u think?

oh and another thing..the add a leaf is approx 50 true but i wanna add like 4 or 5 per side
and that would be quite expensive..so ur saying thin ones??

I use the Timbrens on my 3/4 ton, make sure there is about 3/4 to 1" space between the cushion and axle so the ride is left alone when unloaded and whan loaded the Timbrens come into play. A lot cheaper and maintance free compared to air bags, and really makes the truck feel more stable.

Be careful adding leaves from a scrap yard, since the arch will be different, and you may break the springs that you have.

I only have one question... Why on earth would you want to add four or five leaves? I do my work with stock springs and have had the rear axle weight up to 8000 pounds. Just eyeball a '99 with the camper package and duplicate it. Probably only the helper leaves, two of them. If you are goint to add four or five, make it cheaper, just weld the axle to the frame

You don't say what the truck is, if its just a 2wd add the spacers and u bolts from a 4wd, that would be close the 5 inches.

Your ride is going to be harsh to say the least, like what Hauling suggested welding the axle to the frame. I added one leaf to each side a spring shop made for me and with the camper on the overloads don't touch, ride is fine with the Ranchos set on 2. The on leaf raised my rear by about a 1/2 to 1" but I wasn't going for lift either.

I don't think you could add leafs from another spring pack as they wouldn't offset each other but rather stack on top all being the same length. Which if its to stiff you'd probably break the top leaf at the shackles as the second leaf is not a shackle to shackle leaf. My .02.

Who makes a rear add-a-leaf that would raise about 1" to 1.5" and not give a harsh ride? I have Rancho RS9000 adjustables so I can turn them up or down for softness. I've got the Skyjacker D25's but the front of the truck sits higher. I've had them on for about a year and have not sagged one bit.

Go to Suspensionconnection.com (something like that) They've got add-a-leafs that are supposed to add 1.5-2" with one spring. I want to get that and the D25 coils, so I had the stock rake, but could run 35's without issues. I think that the add a leaf is the closest you're going to get.

If you really want a rake, buy a spring pack for a Skyjacker 4.5" lift kit. This should give you 2.5 to 3 inches. Check out there web site and you can get part numbers.

Well, I ordered the Tuff Country add a leafs off of Suspensionconnection.com and received them the other day. I will install them this weekend...weather permitting. Thanks Crimedog for the help.
