need more fuel..

Well at 151.000 miles I finally replaced my slowly dieing VP44 which has been digging its own grave for about 20,000 miles.. My new VP is in and it runs much stronger, idles smoother, and gained my fuel economy back.. I also installed a big like kit from GDP and a Isspro fuel press gauge. At idle i get about 8 PSI and at WOT on a hard pull i can just about draw it down to 1 PSI. So im thinking its time fore some more fuel!!.. I also have the in-tank LP, Do i junk it, add a holley blue, draw straw??? What would you do??? Money is kind of tight these days seeing as how fuel prices may be a little high, so try to keep it reasonable.. I just dont want to be replaceing the VP in 10,000 miles.... Tnaks for the help!

hey, i had the same problem but my lp was on the block, i put a holley hp150 pmp on the frame and eliminated the stock lift pump, if you run both the stock lp and a holley you will have starting problems, atleast i did, so just run a holley hp150 and you will have plenty of fuel and great pressure under a full load, or just stomping it to the floor.

Cool. But seeing as how I have the intank, will the intank pump be able to push enough fuel to feed the aux. LP or will I have to to eliminate the intank LP... If it was up to me I would take that in tank pump out throw it down the driveway and start all over with the factory sending unit and just the aux LP.... To many options I guess..

I mounted a Holley Red on the frame rail to work with my in-tank pump. I made my own "big line kit" to the FF with 3/8 line and AN fittings on everything and bought a stainless braided line with AN fittings from Vulcan to go from the FF to the VP. With this set-up, I get 15psi at idle, 14psi cruising and 10psi at WOT with the Adrenaline set on PL10. I already had a few of the fittings and I watched Ebay and found a good deal on the Holley Red and bought the hose and other fittings from Vulcan. I had about $135 in everything.
You could just buy the Big Line kit from Vulcan and then buy a Red pump and have about $175-200 in it. Probably not as good as a FASS or Airdog or Glacier set-up, but a heck of alot cheaper and does a good job IMO.
When it warms up out, I have a stock fuel sending unit with a Draw Straw in it waiting to be installed and then I'll upgrade the pump.

i have heard alot of bad things about the intank pumps but no personal experience, i would say eliminate the intank and make your own big line kit like the guy above, but the reason i recommend a holley hp 150 is because of the higher psi than the blue and black pumps, mine delivers planty of fuel and have not seen a significant fuel pressure drop when floored, definitely better than stock thats for sure

OK Thanks. Well I just might add the holley blue pump that I have sittin around just to get me through the rest of winter. When it gets a bit warmer out I think I might get the factory sending unit back in the tank and just run some new fuel line up to a Holley Hp 150 and be done with it. Cant be that hard! Now the question is, where can a guy get a factory sending unit for the tank??

If you are an Ebayer, I think theres one on Ebay right now. They pop up on Ebay every once in awhile. Just go to Ebay and type in the search bar "fuel sending unit" or "ram fuel sending unit", you might have to wade through a few pages to find the right one, but theres usually some on there. I think you can even buy new aftermarket ones on there too. Kinda pricey though.

If you go to a dodge dealership, sometimes they have a few ''old'' sending units sitting in the back. They usually just givem away.

I didn't think they were over $100 NEW.

Make sure you get one for a 2nd gen truck. There are differences.

IIRC, they are about $235 or more, new from the dealer, depending on what kind of pricing ur dealer gives you.

Look at this diagram. If ur fuel pump is in the location shown, the you do not have the in-tank. If there is an aluminium block with 2 fuel lines hooked to it mounted where the lift pump is supposed to be, then you have the in-tank setup. http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/mt_2_fe...l_sys_comp.htm
