Need A lot of help on a 1995

A friend and i just got a 1995 3/4 TON REG CAB long bed and have some problems with it. what is wrong is

-The Speedometer does not work
-tack does not work
-engine temp does not work
-the alt is not charging(replaced it and it worked for a min or two and then stop charging)
-vacuum lines are all messed up(the 4wd is riged to put it into 4wd)
-fuel gauge doesn't work

have anyone had these problem and what did they do to correct them.
if you could give me any input that would help alot.
Thanks,
Rob

the engine speed sensor on front of motor could explane the tach and alt not charging. As far a 4x4 might as well get a posilock.

when I put a different PCM in mine, all that stuff happened except for the 4wd thing, so maybe go to the dealer and see if they can flash or program the PCM, and maybe check your fuses too, look for one that goes to the PCM.

No , there is not , unless you know someone else who has a DRB scan tool ( not OBD , DRB scanners as big time expensive)

I would replace the Engine speed Sensor first, or at least test it for operation , it should be receiving about 5 volts, check all the wires for continuity, and if all that checks out good , install a new one.

check the fuse for it first. then take it to the dealer. I don't think anyone else can reprogram one or tell you if its bad.

If you got a good deal and have time, patience, and money keep it. If not, you may have bit off more than you can chew.

I agree on the engine speed sensor, probably at least part of the problem. Check that it's adjusted properly, about a playing card thickness from the balancer, check the wiring, especially around the water pump, they chafe through the wires at that location. More later, got to go.

#1- VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on transmission, NAPA
#2- ESS or wires chafed at top lift bracket, Napa (got mine for around 75$)
#3- eng. temp sender, Napa. Or needs new thermostat.
#4- alt will start working when tach does
#5- if its the little plastic tubes that are broken, get enough vacuum line to eliminate the the brittle parts or redo the entire system with hose.
#6- sending unit assy in tank, dealer has them around 40-60$
All are fairly simple to fix, I think the hardest one will be the sending unit.

Engine Speed Sensor located near your crank pully. As mentioned above, check the gap between sensor and pully. This happened to me when I did the KDP, put it back together and had EXACTLY the same situation you describe above.
