need a little git up for my 12 valve auto
Hey guys im new to the cummins family but am already very pleased. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for giving my truck a little more power without trashing my tranny. I'm kind of on a budget as i'm a high school student; I was thinking of putting in a governer spring kit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Plate, GSK, AFC Mods... Of course all of these are after you get a set of guages...and then beef up your tranny with at least a shift kit. Your gonna fry your TC sooner or later, so just get a cheap billet single disk.

on a budget, and bombs on an auto? might not work too well. Anyways your first mods should be gauges to monitor everything as stated. A 10 plate is the best all around per say, but in my opinion the 100 is even better. I run one and wouldnt have it any other way.. here is my order of mods...
gauges
4K GSK
10 plate
Plate positioning
AFC and Starwheel positioning
AFC mods
Its a good start.. and the plate can be done for free, AS CAN a 3K GSK.. Look up a thread by gunracer1 on free gsk for the p pump bunch, and all of these can be FREE!

Actually with $ 600.00 you will get a lot of power from your truck.
BHAF $ 45.00
Plate # 10 (file it yourself) $ 0.00
4" Exhaust $ 300.00
Gauges set $ 250.00
That's it.
Now next $ 1600 will be your tranny, it will last for few 1000s of miles with no problem if you take it easy, then it will go to heck. You just need a good Torque Converter and Valve Body.
If you decide to put it in the budget I would reverse the order:
Transmission $ 1600.00
then
BHAF $ 45.00
Plate # 10 (file it yourself) $ 0.00
4" Exhaust $ 300.00
Gauges set $ 250.00
BHAF $ 45.00

On a stocker, slide the stock fuel plate forward, set the AFC screw full forward and change the timing to about 15*. All free or cheap. Get a BHAF to let it breath a bit better or do hole cut outs in the stock airbox (free). Not much money and will help a bit. As said, get gauges (at least an EGT gauge) before going any further.
