I wanted to do something a little different so I bought a Y-pipe that sits in the center of the bed. I am beggining to think that I screwed up pretty badly. Where the Y comes through the bed on the underneath side it hits the driveshaft when I install the elbow that connects to the original factory exhaust. 5" flex doesn't flex too well either. I have already cut the whole in the center of the bed and I can't seem to get away from the drive shaft. Need immediate help please. I don't plan on going to bed until I have the Y-pipe installed.

I think cutting the hole in the center of your bed is your problem. Here is a link to the installation instructions for the MBRP stacks and it shows the hole off center.

This isn't an MBRP kit. It is custom built Two other guys around here have it done. The wholes are in the dead center of the bed.

If I was you and you used a hole saw to cut the hole I would weld it back in and cut a new hole...if your hitting the d-shaft I dont know what other choice you have smaller tubing..but that makes for a bottle neck.....

Maybe a short 45degree bend right under the bed skin. Or the 90 will have to be directly under the bed.

5" 90's are long. Too long. I think I just might have found a solution. I am going to try and get another straight stick of 5" and make a 35 or 45 degree bend about 2 inches long on the top side (just enough to fasten to the y-pipe) and about 12" long on the bottom side. I should hang down no more than 3-4" below the bed. I'm going to try it on monday but keep the suggestions coming, I'm open for ideas.

thought of this. Ive seen the guys with the rectangular tubing for the base pipe for their stacks. What if you took a piece of that, boxed in the side and put a stub on the top to come out the bed, and one on the opposite end on the bottom to hook to the exhaust. Then it would only hang down the depth of the rectangular tubing. Like this: red=bed, black= tubing


you could even cut up some 90's and weld them inside the tubing to channel the exhaust if need be

I knew you didn't have a manufactured kit, I just thought if you looked at some instructions, it might help. Most of the pics of stacks I have seen here have the hole cut on the passengers side since the exhaust exits that side and there isn't any interference with things like fuel tanks, drive shafts etc.

I've built setups on 2nd gens w/ the y pipe being one rib off center. you gotta take a couple tight radius 90's and trim 'em up and weld them to clear the driveshaft.

There's more room on the 3rd gen under there, so you can do it, just might not happen till you get some more steel to work with

Thanks guys I'm going to try and cut up some 5" 90's and get this thing to work. I think it will make it less restrictive than using rectangular tubing for the base pipe. I'll post pics when I'm done. It would be no problem to meet up in morganfield when I am done.
