I have a 98 12v with 185,000 miles manual tranny, 4 in straight pipe, my waste gate went out about 140,000 replaced with banks also came with fuel plate. that is all i ever did to my truck. Im not the brightest on diesel engines so all help would be good. I have lost a lot of power i even have to start out in first gear now. when i first start it a lot of white smoke comes out. it is worse when its cold out. then when it warms up an a lot of black smoke comes out. sometimes when i accelerate it stumbles real bad then sometimes it doesnt.
last time i drove it down the interstate at steady speed it stalled. i pulled over an it started right back up. did it about 3 more times in about 200 miles.

Have u checked ur fuel lines all the way back to the tank for cracks or leaks? That will cause air to get in the system and create some white smoke and stumble, but mostly on startup and when the engine is still cold. Also ur timing has probably slipped back.

Thanks i will check my fuel lines. how do i set my timing. also this may sound stupid but can some one explain the fuel system from gas tank to injector i keep reading about all these different pumps all over the truck. is there a filter in the gas tank .
