Need advise

I have an 03 with 640,000 miles on the engine and drive train....I have my hands on a 2004 truck that was wrecked and is totaled....but the drive train is still good....this truck has 98,000 miles on it....would you all think i would be better to change all drive train and engine or stay with what i have....my trany has lost the 2nd and 5th gear syncros, so this is why im looking at the truck....but i was thinking of getting the whole truck and doing it all.
What do you all think.
I can get this whole truck for 2000.00 as is so to me it is money in the bank.
Let me know.
Thanks

$2k is a steal for a 100k mi drivetrain, even more so for you, gets you parts to go another 500k mi for $2k, provided you want to keep rollin the 03.
I don't think you're looking for advice, I think you're bragging!

go for it

I would say it sounds like bragging. I would go for it and change the trannys out. If the 640,000 mile motor is still runing good I would take the 98,000 miler and build it up so when the orignal quits you got a better than stock to throw in. As for the bad tranny I would keep it for parts.

I agree with the previous statements.

When we say you're bragging, we don't mean it in a bad way, that's a good find... I'd be happy to find that, and I'd let everyone know about it, too!

Apparently, you put a lot of miles on your truck... why not drop the coin into getting a built manual? It will last longer than any stock unit. Is the donor truck a stick, too?

I can not say if the engen swap would be too hard but it is a great find. The home work would be definatly worth it.

Trans is worth more than 2K, jump all over it........ Didn't think there were any real changes from 03-04, .04.5 might be different.

well really not a whole lot to it...1 set of injectors, power steering pump, water pump, lots of oil changes, and 1 overhead run on it at 500,000. It runs really good, thinking of gettting entire truck and keep all the good parts off of it and sell what i dont need. The trany is a definate go, im thinking of keeping motor and store it until i see mine going bad, then swap it out....but right now it really runs great.

the cab was hit in the side so the interior is pretty much gone but it has been completely covered with a tarp for the past 3 weeks since it happened. i have opened the hood and checked the oil it is full and clean ....looked underneath and other than the frame is pushed inward, there is no oil leaks from anything. I have called the guy and i have just bought it, he is on the way with it right now. will have it tonite so to start on the removal of parts first thing tomorrow morning.
Thanks all for the advise.
