Some folks are camping, some are visiting the NC Zoo, others shopping ;), while others are putting gauges in.
I would like to get everyone together around noon and eat some chili and hot dogs and talk about starting our chapter.
Then the Zoo visters can go off to the zoo and the shoppers can go do there thing and us BSers can do our thing as well.
Please post or send me a PM if you are coming out so I know how much chili to make.
Hope to see you on the 6th of Dec near Asheboro NC.

Count me in. Hope we're in a wide open area with all that chile being ingested.

Do you need anything like crackers, drinks, (alcoholic or non included) or anything else. Wifey tells me she will be on her annual Christmas shopping excursion with her sister and mother on this weekend. I will plan on making an appearance myself. I could use a little warmer climate and besides somebody will have to keep DD4x4 in line ;D
11-23-2002, 06:25 PM
The wife and I will be there also. ;D

Ev and I will bring hotdogs and hotdog buns (ketchup, mustard, etc.). We always have a pot of coffee on too. ;D
11-24-2002, 08:22 PM
Don't forget about us. We will be camping, there will be the three of us. Just tell everybody what needs to be brought and I'm sure we all will volunteer for something. Maybe we can get another thread started with a list of what we need, and who will bring what. I will ask a stupid question, what is the DTR. I figured out that NC is North Carolina, but what does DTR mean? [undecided]

Kimrey
11-24-2002, 08:39 PM
Dennis
Could you send that post again. When I pulled up this site I had a big cloud of white stuff come out of the key board. I am thinking that Joel had some help on the doughnuts. [laugh] 8) ;D [laugh]

Thanks Dennis

About the only thing we need now is stuff to drink. We will be calling on the fire ring/barrel thing. With that said we will need some firewood.
Course it would be nice if Wes or Keith could join us so I would not get blamed for the camper lights some how going on in the middle of the night. 8) ;D 8)

Camper folks/hotel folks/everyone else
Pm me if you want to to a group dinner thing for Sat night and or Sun morning. Man oh man did you leave yourself wide open.
Scott look at the screen, somewhere near the top do you see "Diesel Truck Resource" which is the same as DTR.
See ya soon
OOPS!!,,,,,,,,,, So I should stop telling people it stands for
"Dennis' Truck Register" and "Dennis Tway's Rams"? ? ? ::) [laugh] [laugh]
11-25-2002, 09:29 AM
Once again, I will bring drinks both alcoholic and non.
Let me know if there are any preferences.
I plan to bring several different brand name beers and soft drinks.

11-25-2002, 11:20 AM
So far still looks good for me to make this trip. I have lots of good seasoned firewood I will bring some down with me. I haven't looked at motels near there, if it isn't real cold I have a bed that goes in my truck I may just sleep in it. I doubt Asheboro will have those 25 degree nights we often have up on the ridgetop.
Sounds like a good get together.
11-25-2002, 12:48 PM
Sounds like Top has the fire wood thing covered Smurf, so I won't bring any.
11-25-2002, 05:20 PM
LOL, Chris, I deserve that [laugh] [laugh]. I will bring some wood, not alot, but I will bring some. As well as drinks, I will also have some beer, Icehouse, Amber bock, or something along that line. Do we need anything else? How about bug spray? :-[ ;D [laugh]

Kimrey
11-25-2002, 05:30 PM
Alright, Kimrey is bringing the 5.9's too.
11-29-2002, 06:23 PM
That's Reserve Drill weekend for our squadron and lots of Toys-for-Tots events to be covered so I won't be able to make it. :(

11-29-2002, 08:18 PM
Maybe I should bring a portable breathalizer ;D
12-01-2002, 07:51 AM
Breathalizer :o, That might scare some of us. ;D. I'm ready for next weekend! I'm so looking foward to getting away from the house for a while. There calling for a cold weekend, that means bigger fire, and more beer ;). I had said earlier that I could bring some fire wood, but dad hasen't gotten any split yet. So, unless I go buy a load, I wont have any. Let me know, I can always go buy some. Come on Fri. only 5 more days!

Kimrey
12-01-2002, 03:49 PM
I'm going shopping one night this week for some 5.9's, some Bud Light, some Pepsi's, some diet drinks, and Oyster crackers for the chili. Let me know if there are any other drink preferences soon.

I have some AMSOIL supplies for one person too.

Joel
12-01-2002, 05:34 PM
Hello
I too am looking forward to this weekend.
I hope you all like your chili hot. I will bring some cheese for those who wish to calm it down.
I am still looking at leaveing home at 1200 on Friday and getting to the camp ground around 1600/1700.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.
See Ya
Chris
12-01-2002, 07:26 PM
I'll be leaving around 12 myself. We should roll in around 2. I need some good ears to listen to my truck. I've noticed today when I'm idalling up around 1,000 and above, I get kinda of a shemy every so often that will shake the truck. Right now I can only feel it sitting still, not in gear. Chris, I will be getting my other items to do my fuel pressure gauge.

Kimrey
12-01-2002, 08:30 PM
I plan to leave the shack here about 12 Friday, should be there about 4 or so.
12-02-2002, 08:57 AM
Hey Folks,
Looks like we will be leaving Disputanta around 1630-1700. I think I can find the place in the dark without getting lost. I stay in the dark about most things anyway! [laugh] Hopefully, we should be down there by 2030-2100, so don't go to bed too early,,,,,, ;D

Dennis & Ev
12-02-2002, 09:03 AM
Hey Dennis, don't make any turns with the 5'er like we did going to Chips place. The poor little doggie could never stand the G forces.
12-02-2002, 10:42 AM
NO BAT-TURNS WITH THE 5ER,,,,,,,,,,,, [laugh]
12-02-2002, 11:10 AM
Dennis:

Let me know if you need any pics of the 5'er set up in NC. Bought 100 new discs over the week end.
12-02-2002, 06:12 PM
I sure hope you people are thirsty this weekend, there are about six cases of drinks sitting in the laundry room ready to go on ice. I hope the ice is in the cooler and not on the ground like the weatherman is saying. Got some more crackers for the chili too.

Where exactly are we meeting at?

12-02-2002, 06:22 PM
Where exactly are we meeting at?
I guess the campground will be the meeting place.

Well guys, I'm sure some of you will want to kill me, but I am not going to be able to make this event either. Due to family issues that are ongoing, I don't know when I'll be able to make an event. Sorry about that guys, but get some pictures so we can post them on the site. :)

Jack

12-02-2002, 07:19 PM
Hang in there Jack! We all know how important family is and our prayers are with you!. There will be another get together that you will be able to make.
12-03-2002, 06:19 AM
I got the picture thing covered Jack, just bought 100 new floppys for the camera. Take care of the family stuff first. You only got one family, there will be plenty of get togethers.

Joel
12-03-2002, 07:18 AM
Looking at the directions to the campground - if it is where I think it is then there is a most excellent diner right on the corner of 64 and Loflin Pond Road - The Blue Mist (I think). I try to time my need for food so that I can stop there whenever I go that direction. Good country cookin' at real good prices.

Last time I was in there there was a red dual-stacked 5-speed 4WD CTD sitting outside. I will warn you though, that is mostly Ferd country through there. Might be fun to rile up the locals ;D
12-03-2002, 09:22 PM
Roger on the "Diner". The Campground Owners mentioned the food also. They also mention'd the Diner as a land mark to turn nearby.

thanks on the info.

Mrs Smurf..
12-04-2002, 08:42 AM
Who was it that said something about SNOW? ??? ::)
12-04-2002, 09:01 AM
RELAX - this is NC we are talking about. If you don't like the weather wait a couple of hours - it'll change.

We are expecting up to an inch of ice today but the temps will be back up in the upper 40's by Friday. Roads should be OK on Friday.

http://www.wral.com/mapsandforecasts/657982/detail.html
12-04-2002, 11:39 AM
Don't reckon I'll need to buy too much ice for the coolers this week end.
12-04-2002, 11:41 AM
We have to drop the dogs off at the kennel between 5-6. We should roll into Asheboro around 9 or 10, I think.

Joel,
Do you want to caravan over to the campground Saturday?

Scott,
We need to compare notes on your idle problem. I think I may be in the early stages of an APPS failure. I need to get someone else to drive mine and see what they think.

Chris,
What do you want the Winnetts to bring? Is Leigh going to the zoo? I just told Kim last night that I wasn't going to the zoo. She was just a little ******.

All,
Look forward to it. See you Saturday.

David

12-04-2002, 11:45 AM
Yeah, that will be fine. I got your supplies sitting right here so I have to trip over them going out the door.
I think Lary made reservations there too.
12-04-2002, 09:00 PM
As for the WEATHER :P, as stated before, don't hold your breath :o it is bound to change a few times between now and Saturday.

David - It looks like I will up for the whole Weekend. The Zoo has been my priority for a few months now. Unless number two child calls for $$$$ while checking into her new duty station!

If you'll didn't know our Daughter is now are Air Force Fly GIRL! ;D ;D She just finished her tech school and will be stationed in Dover, at least for the next few months.

Is there any special request for Dinner? We have the Chili for Lunch taken care of. I have a Turkey Breast defrosting so we can drop him or her into the fryer.

See ya,

Mrs Smurf

12-05-2002, 03:02 PM
Change of plans. The weather here screwed the wife up on her work schedual. We now wont get there until around 5 or 6. She usually gets off at 12 on Fri. but she missed Thur. so she has to make up a day. I wish she wasn't scared to drive when there is precepataion :o

Kimrey
12-05-2002, 09:30 PM
Looks like we will be on the road tomorrow at noon. I need to finish backing the winter weather gear for the trip and get all the chow packed up. We will be taking two trucks, that way Chris will have his and the boys and I can run around to the Zoo and town with the other.

See ya'll tomorrow night.

Mrs Smurf ;D
12-06-2002, 05:51 AM
I got the beer in one cooler and the soft drinks in another. Got the foul weather gear located and tenderized. Will be on the road by 12:00.

Be there or be square.

Joel

Doesn't look like I will be able to make it unless things make a quick turn around here. I have been doing the generator thing since yesterday and the ice knocked out the phone lines once as well.
Hopefully they will get my power up soon, but wifey is out of town and I may have to go get them saturday if things are not clearer.
Sorry guys maybe next time :'(
12-06-2002, 09:46 AM

12-06-2002, 11:39 AM
Well folks,,,,,, I'm sorry to say we won't be coming with the 5er. The front of it is still sitting on a sheet of ice and I just can't see the point of trying to hook up, to pull down there not knowing if the campground has juice. I also wonder how much tree damage there is that is going to cause detours or low hanging branches on the secondary roads to the campground.
To top all this off, Ev has screwed up her back and ain't feeling too chipper. (Mrs. Bullheaded didn't ask me to lift something that she shouldn't have! ::)
I might drive down Saturday for the day though. If not,,,,, Have a good time! ;D
12-06-2002, 11:52 AM

Sorry about that Tim,
Like Top said,,,,, There will be other get-togethers. I had planned on going down there today until I got a call from Dieseldude4x4 last night, saying the area was a mess. I sure am glad he called,,,,, I would have hated to have driven 4 hours, only to get caught on a blocked two lane road trying to figure out how to turn a 30' fifth-wheel around! ::)
Keep an eye on this section of the forums for info on upcoming events. ;D
Hope the folks that went get home safely.
12-07-2002, 06:21 PM
There were 5 of us that went but you had to take a detour to get to campground. The campground had no power. Papa smurf made some great chili. Sorry we missed the rest of you again there will be next time trying to put something together after first.
12-08-2002, 03:11 PM
Sorry bout that Tim. I was kinda in the same boat. We stayed at the hotel and when we went to the campgrounds, the road was blocked off at both ends. We drove around till we found a road that came in from the side. In the future we need to distribute some cell phone numbers in case something like this happens.

Denny,
Sorry you had to leave so early. We had a roaring bonfire and deep fried turkey. Really good eats. Much to everyone's surprise, the power came on around 5:00. A good time was had by all. We look forward to the next get together.

David
12-08-2002, 05:17 PM
For those of you that couldn't find the camp ground, sorry we missed you. Wish I would have passed out my phone number before I went down there for you to call. I would have came out and met you and showed you how to get around the road blocks. I just moved them out of the way and went through. I didn't drive five hours to let a little sign hold me up.

The drive down was failry uneventful, although I did count approximately 24 cars in the ditch, and the chili and the turkey made it worth while. The guy in the next site had an attitude problem but we built a fire and had a good time anyway. As far as the quality of the campground, I will leave me comments off here. If you want my take on the camp ground, drop me an e-mail and I will fill you in in private.

Got a couple more members to sign up for Chapter 7 also. For those of you that could not get in and want to join the Virginia Chapter 7, send me your e-mail and I will send you the form to fill out. Doesn't cost a thing except a stamp to send it back to me.

I took some pics of the get together and will post them in the photo album once I clean them up a little later. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

12-08-2002, 07:11 PM
Sounds like power coming on was a great finish to a good get together. Sorry I missed turkey and bon fire. It was great meeting everyone yesterday.

David
I ordered my new fuel guage last night from Geno's and banjo fittings.
12-08-2002, 07:58 PM
The pics are posted on page 9 of the photo album under Deep River Campground. Sorry for the quality of the pics, as ususal, my brain was in neutral and I took most of the pics looking into the sun. I tried to clean them up a little so you could see a little bit anyway.

Overall, I would say everyone had a good time. The Smurfs cooked a big pot of chili for lunch Saturday, (I am still paying for that) deep fried a turkey for dinner later that evening. (first time I ever tried that) The fire expert, Kimrey, started a fire about sun down and nearly burnt down the camper in the next space. Not really but the guy thought so, he had a serious attitude problem. Kimrey also made a lifetime friend out of the camp ground owner, NOT!!!! I'll let him tell you that story in private. I called Rattlin Friday night to let him know what the conditions were. My drive down was pretty uneventful on Friday. Saw about 24 cars in the ditches in various stages of mispositioning if you know what I mean. Trees were down everywhere, the power to the camp ground was out. The drive back Sunday was pretty nice, sunny most of the way and not too much traffic. Got three more members to sign up for Virginia Chapter #7 while I was there. Best of all, I think everyone had a good time. BTW, the beer you all didn't drink will be at the next meet.
For those that didn't make it around the road blocks, PM me and I'll send you my cell for the next time in case this happens again.
Looking forward to the next one.

Joel

Greetings to all

I too was going to call off our get together, "but" 4 1/2 hours later we pulled up into the campground. We had a great time even when the water froze and the heater stopped working. We were ready for these small set backs as we had bottled water and an electric heater and a gen set.
The weekend was a great.

Scott hooked up his fuel PSI gauge and found out how much fuel psi he didn't have :-X

Dennis.
Joel and I where talking about you on Friday night about 1745 (5:45 pm). That is when he told me he was going to call you and let you know about the roads. I was glad cause that meant I would not have to search through Leigh Ann's truck and find your phone number.

We are looking forward to the next get together hopefully in a little warmer weather.
As for the campground we stayed at >:( :o :-[ I would not recommend anyone to stay there. The attitude of the owner was terrible, I needed to use 3 inches of lift to level the camper side to side and I had to lower the front almost to it's shortest to get it level front to rear.

We gaffed him off and had a good time.

See ya,

Chris
12-08-2002, 08:02 PM
I was being nice, I wasn't going to mention the camp ground attributes.

Sounds like I missed out on a good get together but, in the grand scheme of things, keeping the generator running and the house warm was a little more important (so says the wife).

I finally got power back on Monday afternoon. This "adventure" stuff is better left for somebody else to experience. So far I have KO'd 2 generators - my old generator's motor finally got to the point where it was check the gas and fill up the oil and the first new replacement ran 3 hours and stopped generating power. The second replacement lasted the duration.

Maybe next time Mother Nature will be a little kinder....

Glad to hear you got things back to normal Redramnc.
That must not have been a cummins generator ;) You can have a generator for years and it will run perfect everytime you try it, that is till you really need it!
12-10-2002, 07:32 PM
I had a cummins generator 8). But the owner didn't like it. Especialy after I ran it all night. :o But that is another story, if anybody wants to here it PM me. Dieseldude, that beer might be allitle old for the next time [yuk]. But I think it was all fun. Many thanks to the beer and food. Lets start looking at the next meeting!
On the fuel pressure gauge, thanks for all the help everybody! I went to my dealer Mon. and they have to order a new pump. I hope by Fri. I will have a new pump! Thanks again!
