Calling all NC and surrounding states Cumins Turbo Diesel Trucks Owners.

This includes Male, Female, Young, the young at heart ;D, trucks with training wheels, trucks with out training wheels, under valved engines, over valved engines, stock trucks, BOMBed trucks, 1st gen, 2nd gen and 3rd gen trucks. I think I have everyone listed, sorry if I left you out.

Here is the deal. There are a few of us turbo heads getting together the first weekend of December in Asheboro. MATDR meeting in Dec (http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/yabbse/index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=6801) In this thread is the Campground information and plan for the day. Some folks are camping, some are visiting the NC Zoo, others shopping ;), while others are putting gauges in.

I would like to get everyone together around noon and eat some chili and hot dogs and talk about starting our chapter.

Then the Zoo visters can go off to the zoo and the shoppers can go do there thing and us BSers can do our thing as well.

Please post or send me a PM if you are coming out so I know how much chili to make.

Hope to see you on the 6th of Dec near Asheboro NC.
See Ya
Chris

Count me in. Hope we're in a wide open area with all that chile being ingested.

Do you need anything like crackers, drinks, (alcoholic or non included) or anything else. I can follow up with the proper amount when we find out how many are going to make the meeting.

Who's bringing the burnin barrell? It's going to be cold for sure.

Joel

Wifey tells me she will be on her annual Christmas shopping excursion with her sister and mother on this weekend. I will plan on making an appearance myself. I could use a little warmer climate and besides somebody will have to keep DD4x4 in line ;D

Don't forget about us. We will be camping, there will be the three of us. Just tell everybody what needs to be brought and I'm sure we all will volunteer for something. Maybe we can get another thread started with a list of what we need, and who will bring what. I will ask a stupid question, what is the DTR. I figured out that NC is North Carolina, but what does DTR mean? [undecided]

Kimrey

So far still looks good for me to make this trip. I have lots of good seasoned firewood I will bring some down with me. I haven't looked at motels near there, if it isn't real cold I have a bed that goes in my truck I may just sleep in it. I doubt Asheboro will have those 25 degree nights we often have up on the ridgetop.
Sounds like a good get together.

Sounds like Top has the fire wood thing covered Smurf, so I won't bring any.

LOL, Chris, I deserve that [laugh] [laugh]. I will bring some wood, not alot, but I will bring some. As well as drinks, I will also have some beer, Icehouse, Amber bock, or something along that line. Do we need anything else? How about bug spray? :-[ ;D [laugh]

Kimrey

Breathalizer :o, That might scare some of us. ;D. I'm ready for next weekend! I'm so looking foward to getting away from the house for a while. There calling for a cold weekend, that means bigger fire, and more beer ;). I had said earlier that I could bring some fire wood, but dad hasen't gotten any split yet. So, unless I go buy a load, I wont have any. Let me know, I can always go buy some. Come on Fri. only 5 more days!

Kimrey

I'll be leaving around 12 myself. We should roll in around 2. I need some good ears to listen to my truck. I've noticed today when I'm idalling up around 1,000 and above, I get kinda of a shemy every so often that will shake the truck. Right now I can only feel it sitting still, not in gear. Chris, I will be getting my other items to do my fuel pressure gauge.

Kimrey

Looking at the directions to the campground - if it is where I think it is then there is a most excellent diner right on the corner of 64 and Loflin Pond Road - The Blue Mist (I think). I try to time my need for food so that I can stop there whenever I go that direction. Good country cookin' at real good prices.

Last time I was in there there was a red dual-stacked 5-speed 4WD CTD sitting outside. I will warn you though, that is mostly Ferd country through there. Might be fun to rile up the locals ;D

Well folks,,,,,, I'm sorry to say we won't be coming with the 5er. The front of it is still sitting on a sheet of ice and I just can't see the point of trying to hook up, to pull down there not knowing if the campground has juice. I also wonder how much tree damage there is that is going to cause detours or low hanging branches on the secondary roads to the campground.
To top all this off, Ev has screwed up her back and ain't feeling too chipper. (Mrs. Bullheaded didn't ask me to lift something that she shouldn't have! ::)
I might drive down Saturday for the day though. If not,,,,, Have a good time! ;D

I sure am glad he called,,,,, I would have hated to have driven 4 hours, only to get caught on a blocked two lane road trying to figure out how to turn a 30' fifth-wheel around! ::)

Sorry bout that Tim. I was kinda in the same boat. We stayed at the hotel and when we went to the campgrounds, the road was blocked off at both ends. We drove around till we found a road that came in from the side. In the future we need to distribute some cell phone numbers in case something like this happens.

Denny,
Sorry you had to leave so early. We had a roaring bonfire and deep fried turkey. Really good eats. Much to everyone's surprise, the power came on around 5:00. A good time was had by all. We look forward to the next get together.

David

For those of you that couldn't find the camp ground, sorry we missed you. Wish I would have passed out my phone number before I went down there for you to call. I would have came out and met you and showed you how to get around the road blocks. I just moved them out of the way and went through. I didn't drive five hours to let a little sign hold me up.

The drive down was failry uneventful, although I did count approximately 24 cars in the ditch, and the chili and the turkey made it worth while. The guy in the next site had an attitude problem but we built a fire and had a good time anyway. As far as the quality of the campground, I will leave me comments off here. If you want my take on the camp ground, drop me an e-mail and I will fill you in in private.

Got a couple more members to sign up for Chapter 7 also. For those of you that could not get in and want to join the Virginia Chapter 7, send me your e-mail and I will send you the form to fill out. Doesn't cost a thing except a stamp to send it back to me.

I took some pics of the get together and will post them in the photo album once I clean them up a little later. The pics are posted on page 9 of the photo album under Deep River Campground. Sorry for the quality of the pics, as ususal, my brain was in neutral and I took most of the pics looking into the sun. I tried to clean them up a little so you could see a little bit anyway.

Overall, I would say everyone had a good time. The Smurfs cooked a big pot of chili for lunch Saturday, (I am still paying for that) deep fried a turkey for dinner later that evening. (first time I ever tried that) The fire expert, Kimrey, started a fire about sun down and nearly burnt down the camper in the next space. Not really but the guy thought so, he had a serious attitude problem. Kimrey also made a lifetime friend out of the camp ground owner, NOT!!!! I'll let him tell you that story in private. I called Rattlin Friday night to let him know what the conditions were. My drive down was pretty uneventful on Friday. Saw about 24 cars in the ditches in various stages of mispositioning if you know what I mean. Trees were down everywhere, the power to the camp ground was out. The drive back Sunday was pretty nice, sunny most of the way and not too much traffic. Got three more members to sign up for Virginia Chapter #7 while I was there. Best of all, I think everyone had a good time. BTW, the beer you all didn't drink will be at the next meet.
For those that didn't make it around the road blocks, PM me and I'll send you my cell for the next time in case this happens again.
Looking forward to the next one.

Joel

Greetings to all

I too was going to call off our get together, "but" 4 1/2 hours later we pulled up into the campground. Sounds like I missed out on a good get together but, in the grand scheme of things, keeping the generator running and the house warm was a little more important (so says the wife).

I finally got power back on Monday afternoon. This "adventure" stuff is better left for somebody else to experience.
