Mystery switch?

I was readin bout the mystery switch for the torque converter lock up and have questions. Do you need to work the button for the overdrive when using? Can you turn on the lock and leave it on without shutting it off until coming to a complete stop? Does it still shift fine for you or do you have to manually shift? Thanks

reason I am thinkin of doin it is when towing, or not, one of the gears, which i think is 3rd, slipps pretty bad and tranny temp climbs. If I am goin around 30-35 mile an hour, it is bad and i can't wait till it shifts up and i have power. I am thinkin that manually lockin the converter in at this point will solve this problem. Am i right?

I love using mine, especially while towing. If your tranny is stock, be very carefull about making "locked" shifts, heavy loads and WOT. I find you can make "locked" shifts if your easy on the throttle. But towing is much more effiecent using the switch.

i use mine alot...when towing, when racing, and lugging the engine. i can go all the way down to 30 and mash on the throttle and pour money out my tail pipe. also when ur going at a highway speeds while towing you can unlock it and push the od off and lock it back up and it slows down very nicely.

Yes, it will solve your problem. Your converter is not locked in at that speed and you are just slipping it and creating heat. Use the switch and you will see huge differences in the temp.

Nope! I can't, but mine is just the simple on/off switch spelled out on TST's site. Have read of some fancier set ups that shut the lock up off automatically below a set speed. But I don't think you want to be locked up when shifting up through the gears on a stock tranny.

Use it for towing and braking assist coming down hills and shut it off below around 30 mph. That's what works for me.
