the truck only has 35000 km on it. Just talk to them and they have order the injector but they can,t order the turbo yet . they want to see if it something else .when i stop it fuel was coming out of the xhaust truck is bone stock .
Wish i had a number to file a complaint about there tec line . So now if it the turbo like they said , I will have to wait for that to come in.maybe they should get cummins to come and look at it or drop there new 6.7 see if it any better (they lift it on a flat deck )will be phoning them on monday now.

Drag about your problems but if you want to be taken seriously please proof read your posts and try some punctuation. Sounds like the original problem has not been rectified. Any mods? If so does the dealer know about these mods?

First off, let me welcome you to the website!

I am very sorry to hear about all the problems you have had with your 2004.5 Dodge CTD CR Truck. My son has a 2004 and has been very lucky so far with minimal problems, other than the front end shimmy/wobble which you mentioned yours also had.

I have personally been thinking about buying a 2006, but in light of your report, along with the reports of many other DTR Members here about the 3rd Gen Trucks, I have been reluctant to trade my 2002 in for one. Granted, the 2nd Gen 24 valve trucks are not perfect either with those pesky lift pumps and the problems seen with the VP-44's, but I really don't know if the 3rd Gen's are much better. My 1996 Dodge CTD with the P-7100 fuel pump and the mechanical lift pump has NEVER given me any problems and I wonder sometimes if technology has really made the Dodge Diesel Pickups any better? Just "thinking out loud" here....................................

Anyway, hope you either get the problems solved on your 2004.5 or are able to get a new one somehow. Take care, good luck and welcome aboard!

John,

Not to sound argumentative, but the '04 trucks like your sons shouldn't have the injector problems that the '04.5+ trucks have. I think the first year for the 48 state emissions trucks was '04.5 and they have that wicked third injection event that seems to be causing all the havoc that guide_master is experiencing.

Now to guide_master:

There is no doubt you have a truck that is going to continue to have problems. It sounds as if your dealer's "diesel tech" doesn't completely understsand how a turbocharged engine works. When an injector pops in the head it dumps fuel into the crankcase. The fuel dilutes your oil. Your turbo shaft has a fluid bearing (oil) which happens to come from the same place that the injector just dumped fuel into. Without proper lubrication and cooling your turbo is destined for failure. Even if it isn't done in right now the intial damage has been done.

I'm not an expert on the new HPCR engines, but I had the unfortunate experience of driving a friends '04.5 truck when it lost an injector. Fortunately the friend was with me when it occured. I only drove it to the next exit off the highway and shut it off. It was towed to the closest dealer and then he waited for two weeks until they could get a "diesel tech" from a nearby dealer to look at it. They called a couple days later to inform him that it was ready to be picked up. When we picked it up it was pouring white smoke and my friend was advised that it just needed to be "cleared out" even though they claimed to have flushed the crankcase four times. Since we were 120 miles from home we figured that would be plenty of "clearing out". Wouldn't you know, he made it 30 miles and heard a horrible metal on metal grinding sound. Yep, the turbo was done. The turbine wheel actually broke clean off the shaft and allowed the newly unbalanced compressor wheel to cut into the housing. Long story short.... he replaced the turbo himself, drove it for a couple more months, blew two more injectors, and then sold it. He bought himself a '98 12 valve and lives happily ever after now.

Sounds more the tech that is working on the truck is a "lemon".

You can't blame the truck for being a lemon, if the tech working on it, hasn't fixed the original problem.

Sounds like he's throwing parts at it.

I'd get it put back together, and if it does it again, take it elsewhere, to another dealer.

smokindog:

You bring up some good points on the changeover to the "three (3) event" injectors vs the "two (2) injector event" on the earlier Dodge CTD CR Trucks.
However, D/C and Cummins have had their share of problems and failures with the electronic injectors on the earlier "two (2) event" injector also. Our two Dodge dealers in this area have had several trucks with that problem.
IMO,....the other big issues are the problems a large number of our own members are having with the CP-3 Pumps and also the front end shimmy/wobble problems. I have posted a long thread over in the 3rd Gen Engine and Drivetrain Section on the that problem and it is pervasive all across the U.S.

I have a 2004.5 and I have to say I have been hard on this truck and it has been great to me so far.

It has been modified since about 4k miles on the clock.

I hope you get everything straightened out!

Look in your truck manual for a number to Dodge, Diamler Chrysler and give them a call. It's in there somewhere. Also, I would think that you are well past the states Lemmon Law. Have a serious talk with the dealership owner and the service manager in the owners office. There is no way you should have to put up with the crap you have. I would think the dealershio would furnish you a rental, regardless of the policy.Where are you?

This is a long shot but read this thread about A/C wires rubbing through the insulation causing all sorts of grief with the electronics/sensors:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=81936

This has been a VERY common problem.
