OK who has messed up a wheel? How about cracked? Paid mucho money for these Weld wheels ( few months before they all of a sudden went belly up after a few decades...)because i wanted strength from a forged wheel. The lug nut holes were too tight, the finish began chipping after several months, and now the center section almost completely broke free.

WHOA! Thats some serious stuff there. How long you had 'em? I'd be wanting some return from those! You do any hard wheelin'? Just one? Is it a front? I have never seen a wheel do that. I have "tacoed" some steelies and broke softball size chunks out of aluminum wheels, but that there is stress and/or flexing.

Haisley Machine's "Rock Hard Ram" pulling truck broke a WELD wheel during a sledpull down in Kentucky a couple years back.

I have also had 2 seperate Weld wheels on my old Ford Dually (2003) crack on me as well. It was the outer dual on each side. Happened about 9 months apart. Huge splits going out from a lugnut whole and running most of the way toward the outer rim edge.

Scary stuff. I thought it was a fluke to have 2 crack. Even had the shop that put them on retorque after they replaced the 1st broken one. Worst part is the heaviest thing I ever hauled was my Quad Trailer (3000lbs loaded).

Member "XLR8R" recently had a wheel failure on his aftermarket wheels too. I think Discount Tire warrantied it no problem, but he was carrying some pretty heavy weight. He got a replacement wheel from DT with no hassle at all. Might check with the co. you got yours from.

I think this is a common issue with Weld wheels. I've seen it happen my self. When I worked for Les Schwab tires I put a set of Weld's(don't recall the specific name) on a customers F-250 PS. He came back a couple of days later for a re-torque, I was torqueing them all down and noticed that from the lug nut holes out there were several small cracks running through out the wheel. I checked all 4 and 3 were bad. One seemed to be in good shape but all 4 were replaced none the less.

I have heard it is due to the fact that most of their wheels are a 2 piece design. I dunno if that's true or not. Either way, it's pretty scary especially if you were to be hauling a big load or going 75mph on the freeway and the wheels decide to fly apart.

Wow, I thought the same thing. Weld was always the go-to wheel if you needed high strength. If I were buying a forged wheel now I think I'd try the American Racing ATX series instead.

My brothers rim completely cracked and broke off when we where in the parking lot at school. He was right behind me goin about 15mph and all of a sudden I here a loud pop and looked back to see his truck resting at a slant with the center lug nuts resting on the lip of the rim. The company gave him a complete new set, but we were still ****** due to the possibillity of it happening at a high rate of speed. The one good thing is that we were able to miss a couple perids of class to get everything situated, I will see if I can find a pic laying around to post.

If this was typical of Weld's mass market wheel which was highly priced compared to many others....there is no wonder.....that they are out of business. The liability of the direct losses together with the accidents that we are probably not hearing about would kill a company. ks

I don't think Weld went out of business... I think they were bought out by American Racing wheels...
