My VP44 is a Reman From CZ

The dealer replaced the VP 44 about 8 months ago, and the thing seems to run fine, but I kept hearing about the black pump from CZ being junk, so I got under the hood and checked it tonight, sure enough, it's stamped right on it, "Reman in CZ'. I've got about 25000 miles on it with about 8-10000 with the wire taped. Does anyone really have any hard facts the the CZ pump is junk?

Thanks
Randy

If they replaced it under warranty I wouldn't worry about it, but since you tapped the wire.... that's another story.

I too heard that the CZ pumps were not desireable, that they weren't built to the exacting tolerance that the German manufactured units were. I have no real experience with them though.

I've installed quite a few of them and had to replace at least five of them before a years time had passed. One only went 9 miles and seized up. Seems that all the VP's are a hit and miss deal......just the CZ ones lean a little more on the "miss" end of the scale from my point of view.

You might get a good one, you might get a bad one. It's a crap shoot. I ordered a new pump and was sent a CZ, no thanks. I sent it back and got one reman'd in the US. It could crap out tomorrow. I tapped the wire before I cranked it up for the first time. I would try not to worry about it. It's kinda of like the 53 block. If it does go hopefully your dealer will treat you right.

when you guys tap the pump wire after replacing a injection pump its best to leave it untapped or box off to work the air out for quite a few miles

just a heads up

Well I called II tonight and talked to Clint, he said the the CZ pumps seemed to fail a little more then the others, but it might run for a long time, you just don't know. For that matter I have a neighbor with a '99 with almost 200k on it, on the orignal pump. Decides that he wants some extra power so he buys an edge comp and taps the wire, I didn't think he'd make it around the block, but it's still running strong.

Thanks Randy
