my truck shut off ..... ?? help

heres what happened ......... i went out this morning to start my truck and realized i hadnt plugged it in overnite. it was 7 degrees ( i know thats almost shorts and t shirt weather for some of you guys ) so i cycled the grids 3 times and popped her off. she ran rough at 1st and really smoked but then calmed down. i let it warm up about 10 - 15 min then drove about 10 miles and shut her off for about an hour. then i drove again for id say a good 1/2 hour or 45 min..after this last 30- 45 min drive i pulled into my parents driveway and it just off ...like it ran out of fuel ( kind of like i turned the key off ). i tried to restart and while holding or pumping the throttle it started then shut off again. i thought maybe it lost prime so i got out and pumped it up and then it started again. after idleing for a good 15 min i drove around the block ( 5 miles ) and it died again, the same exact way. after getting it running again. i shut it off and drained the water seperator and primed it with the hand pump again. i also added some more howes and a bottle of fuel line antifreeze to the tank. started it and went inside my parents place to warm up and after another 15 min at idle it was still running . i drove it home ( 7 or 8 miles ) and it seems fine. any idea what happened ??? did the fuel line antifreeze do the trick ??? help me guys this is my 1st cold weather issue with a diesel. i need it running tomorrow because my KDP has a date with the executioner.. thanks guys and sorry about the long post just wanted you to have all the info.....thanks again, scott

Sounds like your fuel was getting a little thick.

More than likely the Howes and/or line antifreeze fixed it.

Might want to keep putting the Howes (or any flavor of anti gel) in it through the winter to keep it from happening again.

You might want to check that your fuel heater is working. After a few minutes after a cold start it should feel warm to the touch. The heater on the 12 valves are notorious for melting their wiring. Most times you don't even know it till it gets real cold.
