My truck is posessed... Certain features still work even with key out

So at work this morning my foreman comes into the shop and mentions to me that my intermittent wipers are going off every few seconds. HUH? The key is out and off, how the heck are the wipers still going. So I go out there and sure enough the wipers are going on, I turn them off (left them on due to some rain on the drive to work) and problem solved. The thing is I can still work my wipers without the key, which last time I checked, I shouldn't be able to do.

Is there a wiper relay or something that I could look at. I'm kinda stumped as to why this is happening...

I hope you get an answer!! I think we probably have the same issue, just I only notice mine when the truck is on!

When my wipers are on an intermitent setting, they'll be going fine.....back and forth........................back and forth.....................then all of a sudden they go back and forth - back and forth - back and forth 3 times in a row faster! Then back to the normal setting for a while, and then speeds up again!

I think the gremlins found us man. lol

This may be totally off the wall, but...... I have read threads before on faulty switches were the left turn signal will flash when you engage the right turn switch. Could this also be a problem with the switch? Just an idea since the controls discussed are all on the same switch?

My wipers also do this some times. I have them on the intermittent setting, they wipe and then continue wiping a few more times then it goes back to normal. Maybe it is a faulty switch of some sort?

This isn't good since my manager drives a 6.0 PSD and gives me a hazing every now and then for driving a Dodge

So anybody got a solution to this?

We had a heck of a storm this AM...while using the wipers there was a constant nag in the back of my mind...."Is column gonna short out, catch on fire, and drip firey, melted plastic on my leg?" lol

I have a newer truck, but with the key off and out of the ignition, there is still power to many of the accessories until I open the door. I think they call it power delay or something. This could be a part of the issue where things are still allowed to happen abnormally. Something to think about.

If you have a programmer like a Smarty and you programmed the ecm without making sure the wipers were off instead of in an interval position it may have done something. In the newer trucks, like an '06 up with the different computer, everything works through the computer including the headlights. None of the switches do anything directly. If you forget to turn the lights off before shutting the engine down and removing the key, you can't just use the switch to turn them off, you have to re-insert the key-- at least on my truck. I wouldn't be surprised if the wipers are similarly controlled. If this is what happened, a reprogram after making sure everything is "OFF" should straighten it out.
