My truck is dead.

Tried to start my 2001 truck this morning, started after a few tries, drove 2 miles it ran fine, then it died at an intesection and will not start. No codes and the fuel pressure is good. The truck has 220,000+ miles, I've owned it for 120,000 of those miles and never replaced the vp44 and it has been run with low fuel pressure from time to time. Im guessing that the vp44 is dead but im not sure. What else could it be?

More info. When you say it's dead, does the engine turn over when you turn the key to START position? Details, details, details.

Even with details, I think your mind is going down the right path ... with the VP being the possible problem.

Sorry should have been more specific, The truck turns over fine just doesn't start, I have fuel pressure according to the gauge and the fuel filter canister is full. If the VP44 dies shoudn't there be codes.

My 2001 did the same thing, no codes but VP44 was dead. I put a new lift pump in for good measure along with the new VP44.

Most likely a VP, unfortunately.

Thanks for all the advice. I have read that there is a vp44 tester. Where would I find one and what does it cost? If it is out should I just replace it with a H.O. VP44 or is there a better option available. I would like to start
adding some power nothing crazy. Maybe 100-150 hp any suggestions? I still want to be able to do some heavy towing. Cattle trailers and loads of hay and maybe some tractors. Could I still tow these kind of loads with that kind of upgrade? Thanks Again.

Replace your VP with whatever came on the truck. Either pump can make all the power you can ever use towing.

If you want to be able to do some heavy towing, 300hp is the no brainer limit, and 325hp is about the limit if you don't mind watching the pyro.

Keep in mind, 300hp at the wheels is almost a 50% increase in the power output of the engine. That's a significant fraction.

If you keep it to 300hp, your stock clutch and everything else still works well.

If you never go up to higher altitude and you are willing to watch the pyro like a hawk, then you could go as high as 350hp, but that's usually aftermarket clutch or auto trans range.

300Hp is WAY cheaper than 350hp.
