My Ram got rammed =(

I was chugging up a hill eating a donut and a lumina comes up from behind goes into the right lane and starts to pass just before two lanes merge into one and go over a bridge over I-95. The kid saw the bridge and panicked- he slammed his car into mine smashing his rear door against my front wheel.

I can see a light crease in the front bumper and the cap from my front wheel is damaged. His rear car door has dented pretty good. I'm amazed I don't see any more damage considering how hard he hit me. The truck is pulling towards the right side that got hit, but seems to be alright so far.

I got his info and called my insurance company. The cops said they couldn't do a report since we had left the scene and 'exchanged information.' I say that cuz the kid never even asked my name, insurance,... anything. I got his plate, name, insurance company name and number, policy holder's name and address.

The insurance company is going to get in touch in a day or two, but what do I need to check? I'll at least jack that wheel up in the morning and check things out. This was all just a couple hours ago and I just drove home from the scene. Think it'd be worthwhile taking the truck into the dealership so I can get a nice high estimate for repair?

Ya you will need estimates from either dodge or from a frame and body shop to make sure you frame is still in spec and what parts need replaced now would be a good time for those ball joints LOL

This is exactly what the newer cellphones with cameras are for. if you had one you could have it all documented, in hand. iI not, drop a paper boxed disposable camer in the glove box. You can even wrap it in black plastic to help it stay fresher longer. You could have easliy handed the cops and his insurance comapany a picture of his car wedged against yours.

Not to hijack, but had same thing happen to me, only it was snowing and the other IDIOT was running about 75mph. He ran out of road, hit me twice before spinning himself out, crossing two lanes of crowded highway to slam head on into an inbankment, ejecting a passenger out into the freeway ( I STILL dont know how he did not get ran over) destroying his (someones) Grand Cherokee. All he had to say was " Why didnt you get out of my way" I gave him some explicitives and walked away to stay out of jail.

Damage.... stretched to get $750 in damage from my truck, 1 totaled Jeep.

Be glad it wasnt worse. I REALLY HATED watching that young man bounce down the highway with cars flying all around him trying not to run him over. NOTHING has ever bothered me like that did.

I've been known to pull off the road for 2-5 minutes. Just to give plenty of room between me and the idiot. Oh, and I've also called 911 to report erratic drivers and stranded motorists.

As a minimum you need to definitely get a wheel alignment as more than likely you have bent suspension parts (you stated it is now pulling...which almost always means something is now bent). You should also get the wheel balanced that was hit as I would also suspect it has bent your rim and that will show up from a balance. If the alignment is drastically out then you may want to also invesitgate a frame alignment.

I would not take my truck to a dealer for a wreck repair. they will enter the wreck information and repair work done with your vin number. all dodge dealerships will have that info availale to them by your vin. if warranty work is needed at a later time they may try and blame the wreck (which means insurance pays) instead of fixing the warranty issue. it happned to me on a past dodge truck. find a good repair shop (other than the dealer) for wrecks in my experiance. It turned into a real hassle to deal with.

Customer Pay work cannot be shared by Dodge dealers.Only warranty and that requires dialing into a D.C.main frame. Each Dealer is indepently owned and THEIR computer systems are in house systems.

That happened to me last year.
We exchanged information and left the scene with out a police report.
The guy who changed lanes into me told the insurance companies that I changed lanes into him.
After getting estimates his insurances company claimed they would not pay to repair my truck even though he had three moving violations and two accidents in the past three years.
My record was clean.
Trust no one and always get a police report and if possible do not move your vehicle unless you don't care about paying for things others do to you truck.
i learned my lesson.

That is good info Hounddog. so if I get into a wreck take my truck to a dodge dealer for repair the only dealer that will know about the wreck will be the dealer that did the repair? I ran into a problem with my local dealer I had a wreck repaired and then about 3 months later after the repair was done I took it in for warranty work than I needed. They started to give me the run around saying they thought it was caused by the wreck. I got upset and told them I was finding another dealer to work with and the manager told me that if I went to another dealer they would have the wreck information on the computer and my trucks VIN would be "Flagged". Makes me so
glad I dont have that "flagged" truck anymore
