I plan to take lots of pics. I've got a winch, two side cabinets , hydraulic pump and cylinders. I'm looking for a generator.
I want to make it universal for everything..........removeable sides, tilt bed, hidden tie down pockets, pockets down the center for removeable rollers to hall boats, aluminum ramps and full steel deck. I'm debating whether to make it a beaver tail.

If anybody has any other suggestions........ I'll take them!
 :D :D :D :D :D

I didn't know it got warm enough up there to have a pool? [laugh]

Pics of your progress would be cool. :D

Here are some pics. I had to widen the axles, add the upright support tubes. The axles are temporarily tacked in until I get it built and weighed at the scale to check axle weights. I might have to move them forward. I hope not. I like them there.
I've posted more pics in my gallery pending approval.

Haven't decided whether to leave to cabinets down or piggyback on the uprights facing the end og the trailer.

Loookeeeing Goooood!:D I admire anyone with the skills to build this kind of stuf!! I have an old arc welder and a new wire welder, and an itch to try my hand! What does something like you're undertaking cost!?

To be honest, so far $100.00
I got the tube steel and "c" channel for nothing. It was ordered for a job and the company changed the order and had already bought the steel. They asked around for anybody who wanted the metal for free and my brother called me to say come and get it, I did (REAL QUICK)
4 lengths of 3"x6"x30' 3/16" tubing
4 lengths of 3" i.d. tubing
2 lengths of 8"x 12' c channel
I bought an old 20' camper (GUTTED TO FRAME) for the axles for $100.00
The winch and cabinets were throw aways from old vehicles at work.

I would want hevier axles than the camper axles. I would think that they would not be heavy enough for a car, and I am shure they wont hold a truck. To be honest I would bet that buy time you get done with the trailer they will be over loaded sitting there empty. Im not trying to be negative, I love the idea of building your own stuff to performe as you see fit, I just dont think they will be safe going down the road with anything of a load on the trailer. A good freind builds custom trailers for people on the side and the lightest axle he usses is 3000#. That is what is on my 10 foot utility trailer he made for me. I have run it prety close to its limits before with just a couple ATVs and other riding gear. You have to take into acount the wheight of the empty trailer and load from there. A pair of 7000# axles would be excelent under that size trailer.
Anyhow looks like it will be a nice trailer when you get done.

Some friends of mine own a spring and alignment shop. It's got one spindle slightly bent. They said to bring it in. They straighten the spindle, beef up the springs and align the whole thing for me.
(CHEAP< CHEAP< CHEAP)

I would add more springs and REALY beef up the axles. For the price of new ones though I wouldent skimp on something that important. No matter howmuch you beefup the axles the bearings and spindles would still be only rated for what the camper weighed.

There not as cheap but more than strong enough and come with brakes.
Again, Looks like an awsome project and be shure to post pics of the final product. Sounds like it will be very handy.

Well I made the connection to the fifth wheel today and took it for it's maiden test voyage. It pulled along very nice so far. I gotta finish welding in some fishplates to strengthen some welded joints, add the floors, accessories and wiring.
I did notice I have to move the left front axle spring perch back about an inch for alignment. It tracks at the rear about 2" to the right. Other than that, it trails and pulls along fantastic.:D :D

I think it turned out great for some back yard REDNECK 1st time attempt.
I'm very happy. Can ya'll tell?:) :)

Looks like you are getting it done, Looks great. Could you put the boxes up over the fifth wheel? I have been seeing a few around my neck of the woods doing that and it looks sharp and saves space on the bed. Goodluck,,Rick

I already planned on that. I left them down there while I was building the gooseneck.
I just got the landing gear today for it. A little overkill but free.

{{I just got the landing gear today for it. A little overkill but free.}} If they are free they ain't overkill, I would say that is great and if in a jam they look like they would lift the truck up for flat work. Looking good, I like the extra space the toolboxes give up on the rack with the spare in the middle. Goodluck,,Rick

placing a deck over the 5th wheel is nice as well. it works great if you want to stand (or sit) up there to watch a truck pull or some sort of event like that.

I also thought of building a box up there. I've seen two with boxes up there and they place their pickup caps when they hall them. The box is the same size as the cap base.
It does look a little goofy though and adds alot of weight to the tongue.

I like to follow the KISS plan.

K ----Keep
I -----It
S ----Simple
S ----Stupid

I have the winch for the front and the boxes with chains and tie down straps. I've got a hydraulic pump and cylinders to make it a partial dump box in the future.
I don't want to be pulling something that only has the capacity to pull it's own weight with accessories and NO LOAD.

I had alot of PM's with suggestions and ideas, but I do wanna watch the weight. It's bad enough I gotta watch MY weight.... let alone the trailer's too. [laugh] [laugh]

If you put too much more weight on there, you land yourself in a place of having to add another axle on there, or getting some heavier load axles. Maybe I missed it, but did you give out a weight rating for those axles on there now?

No. Once I'm done, it's going to the spring and alignment shop for some work anyway.

Unfortunately no. I booked 3 weeks vacation til the end of the month cuz I'm moving and spending a ton of time fixing the new house and packin for the move.
And now the new house isn't equipped yet for 220v for the compressor and welder. Once I'm settled in, I'll have to wire that up and this garage is much smaller than my old one. So I definately won't be able to even fit the trailer in the door let alone all the way inside to work on it for the winter.......

I think I'll see spring before paint and plates on the trailer.

The good news is "I'm not moving far....... I'm only moving next door"!!!!!![laugh] [laugh]
