Giddyup!!!!

Congrats Utah. I have been pondering getting a 2003, but I have so much into my current truck, that I'd be heartbroken to get rid of it, so I'm going to wait until I can afford two!

Utah

You might be surprised. Mine never did give me a code F or anything in the factory, next thing I knew she had been released, KZ, and then like in a day was on a train heading North.

Detoured to Kansas and back but she is due in Portland tomorrow AM. 10 days after she rolled out the door in Saltillo!

Exciting eh?

;D ;D ;D

Hunter

Congrats Utah! I ordered mine a month after you did so I still have quite a wait. We ordered the same color so I'm looking forward to hear how you like it. Be sure to post a picture when it arrives.

The Boss Hog

Were we this excited about our first kid being born? Can't remember!! ??? [laugh]
Thanks for the support, boys. 8) ;D

This is the first vehicle I've had built to spec. Dealers have located others out of regional/national inventories for me, but nothing like this.

Our buddy Hunter makes a good point. Apparently, the Dodge tracking system is not regularly updated. Watching this issue on three boards I belong to - it appears it can take 7-10 days for the system to be updated. So, you could call today and your truck is "D1" (scheduled) yet call tomorrow and it's been shipped. Boss Hog,

My man, you are in deep doo doo. If Doris saw that we will be having to ship you care packages for the next year. You better hibernate in the swamps for a while. I'll meet you halfway at the big pond and we'll do a little bass fishin' - - eat some swamp cabbage - - chase a couple gators. Hey, a man has to survive. [laugh]

Bob

Once she arrives she gets:
- 2" front leveling kit
- 315/70/17 BFG KO/TA's (35")
- Westin stainless tube side steps
- Black rear window louvers

??? ???
Hello guys. This is my first post. I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now trying to learn all I can about the new Dodge diesel pickups. I have one on order due the first of December. It's a 4X4 auto ( my first diesel) and I'm trying to decide what tires I want to put on it when it gets here. Utah, can you tell me how/why you decided on the 35" BFG's ? I'm considering these tires and the 33-35" Procomp all terrains. My concerns are that I want a nice proportional and practical tire that's not too small or not so large that my truck looks like monster truck. All replies, suggestions, opinions, etc appreciated. Thanks, Dean in FTW ???
Sounds good, Dean. 8) Oh, and Welcome too! ;D

Just my .02:

Well, I've also looked at the Pro-Comp tires. I have a set on my Rover D90 and they perform well. However, I'm not real comfortable running them on a vehicle that weighs this much and will tow/haul. I just have not seen enough of the Pro-Comps run on these trucks to be able to decide if they're up to it.

In my opinion, the BFG AT is a proven tire that can take abuse. The BFG 35" is D-rated (as is the Pro-Comp), but has established a solid performance record with the HD Chevs, Dodges, and Fords that tow and haul.

Best to y'all
Bill :)

Thanks for the info UTAH. I've been reading good things about the ProComps but I think I'll probably go with BFGs. I've found a preety good source for them, if you need it let me know. I'd sure like to see a picture of a 2003 2500 with a set of 35's and/or 33's. Be sure to post a picture of yours when you get your tires. :)
Thanks, Dean. ;D

I'm also hoping someone here will post pictures of their '03 CTD with 33's or 35's.

How's about it, boys?

Best to y'all
Bill :)

Can you do it or do you have to have the dealer do it? Also, does anybody buy new take-offs anymore? Thanks for any info you can provide.

The Boss Hog
Status "D" and waiting
Hey Boss Hog - you're almost there, bro. ;D
I've never adjusted my speedo in the past doing the same thing. My calculations show the new tire will have a 9% larger diameter than the stock tire. Knowing that, I can mentally adjust for speed. Just to be sure, I'll use my GPS to confirm my calculations.
The dealer can recalibrate the speedos (actually they recalibrate the way the computer reads the sensors). Some here will probably point out that not recalibrating could throw off the ABS and other functions that rely upon accurate speed readings. Though I agree, I've not experienced such problems in the past. If I do, I guess I'll rethink my stance.
I'll be using my original wheels to mount the new tires so take-offs won't be an issue this time around. On prior vehicles, I've tended to keep the take-offs since it's hard to get much money out of 'em (unless they're special like the alum option). Besides, it's nice to have an extra set of wheels to mount mudders or other special use tires on. eh?
Best to y'all
Bill :)

Utah and Boss

It will not only throw off the speedo but the odometer as well, so you can't get correct fuel mileage reports. Not sure what it will do to the onboard computer also.

As for buying the takeoffs, at least on my SRW 3500 the "takeoffs" would be very spendy E rated Michelin tires and most tire people would have no problem buying them I am told.

But, I am gonna run the stock tires for bit until Toyo comes out with a 17" E rated tire, then it will be Toyos. They are to die for and never wear out and never go flat on one side! (Had many E Toyos in the past)

Hunter

Hey Utah, Congrats on the birth of the 03 youngin. Now comes the hard part, knowing its headed for West Valley but not having that magic Key in your hands. It will drive you crazy with anticipation. When you turn that key for the first time and hear that Cummins purr like a contented kitten you'll know it was worth the wait.
By the way, the 03 does turn heads, not by the noise but by its good looks and that bic "C" on the front fenders. Then comes the next qquestion, "Does it have the new HEMI"? Guess Dodge has done a good job of associating their name with HEMI and CUMMINS, The average mind puts all three together. [laugh] [laugh]
Hunter, I saw a post on one of the other Forums which stated that if a tire change takes place when there is an automatic tranny involved, the memory must be reflashed to have the proper shift points. The D-max dealers can't reflash their to make speedo correction, it must be done by aftermarket dealers. I wonder if it becomes a warranty issue? :'(
;D Thanks, boys. You're always helpful.

Best to y'all
Bill :)
