My Air-In Idea (Pre air filter)

I've been pondering the thought of cutting the back of the air filter box and ducting in another air in section to the filter. I photo shopped up my idea in a crude kind of way but I think you get the idea.

This would require cutting into the fender well area near the back of the air filter box and finding good paint to match the truck.

I bet the turbo would be loud through the louvers. And I bet there are many different styles of louvers to choose from to make it work.

After pondering the idea and at work one day, I noticed a new police vehicle. A large brand new GMC flatbed with a duramax that had the basic idea but with a very cool looking vent system located in the same area.

Well, I'm no engineer but have been thinking if something like this would be worth it, of if any of you have seen something similar.

Thanks for your time.

Yeah, flip the vent 180deg and put it in front of the wheel well. Sorta like ram air.

Keeping rain out would take some extra thought?

tomd, I am glad to see i'm not the only one that was pondering the same thing. What i was thinking of doing was using a hood scoop mounted in the same place. If you look in summit racing catologue they have a big selection of hood scoops/ramair type. Or you could just look around in salvage yards,e-bay etc. Keep us posted on what you come up with and i will continue to look out for something also. Augie Dog

Thank you! I hope somebody does it soon so that I can get some help! The more brainstorming the better.

by the way... here is a gmc similar to what I was talking about... notice the side air in vent? not sure of it for a turbo though.

tomd, i was just on summit racing site and i found several good candidates for a scoop. I think this set up would work great with the BHAF set up mounted inside the fenderwell What do you think ??? Augie Dog

Since your rig is 4wd and if it ever sees off roading...ie water crossings the better idea might be a snorkle. Just a thought.

It's discreet and fairly well rainproof due to the uphill slope of the intake tube. That's probably why they designed it that way in the first place.
