My 12V won't start

I went to start my truck this morning and couldn't get her to start. It cranks over and tries to start. I'm getting smoke out the exhaust. It fired for a couple seconds and that was it and it didn't sound happy. It's all stock and I have never had a starting issue. I parked it on a hill and I'm at 1/8 tank. Could I have sucked air in the tank? Could it be the starter shut off solenoid if I'm getting smoke (and it kind of wants to start)?

I just turned it over after wait for an hour and now it doesnt want to try to fire at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My guess would be that you are not getting diesel because of being so low on fuel and parked on an incline. How about getting a couple of 5 gallon cans of diesel and putting in it, and see what that does?

I agree with that idea.

You could most likely could get away with adding the fuel and manually pumping the fuel pump until you get fuel to the IP. I have had air in my system often and this has always worked for me.

Thanks for all the advise. I ended up filling the tank and pumping the primer bulb till my hand fell off then used my 1 remaining hand to finish. She started right up. I guess I wont be parking on a hill with a low tank any longer.
