I am looking for more information on the different diesel mufflers available like Magnaflow, Donaldson, MBRP, Hushpower etc. Some of their websites don't have all the info. I have sometimes seen contradictory info on here about a muffler but that may be due to different part numbers. Some mufflers are advertised as 5"in/5"out but internally they neck down to a 4" core. Other mufflers are advertised as straight through but have louvered cores which are louder installed one way and quieter when installed the other. I recall the auto magazines testing mufflers years ago and the results showed these types of mufflers actually had poor flow characteristics. The louvers created turbulence and reduced the laminar flow area of the core to an area much smaller than the diameter. Mufflers like Aero turbine, Corsa, DNA and others are fairly new, use different technologies and I haven't seen seen much on them.

Considering how much we spend on exhaust systems it would be nice if some of this info was posted by those who have experience with the muffler and would help those who are searching for info on mufflers.

I have a Banks monster exhaust. The muffler, P/N 53801 is polished stainless steel, looks good and very well built. External dimensions are approx.4"in/4"out, 8.5"D x 36"L overall, case 24"L. Internally the the muffler has a 4" perforated core (no louvers), That opens up to a 5" expansion chamber then back down to 4" through the rest of the muffler to the outlet. It looks like it would flow the same as a 4" straight pipe. I like the way it sounds and it doesn't produce drone in my driving conditions. Purchased through Banks.

Sure like my Nelson 5x51 with 4 inch reducers,had the flowmaster,magnaflow ,now am done,no drone pulling my fiver,wife is happy ,which means everything is good.
