MUFFLER ELIMINATION KIT ('04.5-'07 5.9L DODGE) from Geno's
I was looking into buying the "MUFFLER ELIMINATION KIT ('04.5-'07 5.9L DODGE)" from Geno's Garage.
Has anyone tried this? I was thinking it would help (hopefully) a lot on MPG and it would not be very loud.
Does the truck become slightly louder (where it may be hard to tell) or is it noticably louder?
Also, has anyone with experience improved their MPGs?
Thanks in advance

I have it its not overly loud. Was easy to get in the hard part was removing the old Muffler. Search on here for it and you will find alot of post about elimination pipes. Welcome to DTR.

Yes it will be a lot louder. I have my muffler and cat both removed. As far as MPG goes you will not see a lot of gain by just removing the muffler. If you want to gain MPG and still keep it quite I would trash the stock muffler and cat for a good aftermarket muffler. But I still don't think you will see alot of improvement.
Like the above post said, do a search you will be able to read for hours on MPG, muffler delete, and sound.

I installed the ME kit, I absolutely LOVE the slightly deeper tone. I left the CAT and resonator. The noise level is not that much more in the cab, either empty or towing, just a nice Cummins rumble. The CAT only has about 1/2lb restriction, not worth eliminating, besides, if you have a new truck and are concerned about your warranty, removing the CAT will heighten your concern about your warranty and also violate the law regarding the CAT.
As far as removing the muffler, it was actually an easy job. I got out my hand grinder and cut some slots about an inch long into the muffler flare, not deep enough to get into the other piping. Then with a small flat chisel I created a flare away from the inside piping, just enough to get past the stock clamp indents. The muffler came off without much effort. This removal method would allow for re-installation of the muffler if I decided to down the line. I did not even have to remove the resonator/tailpiece hanger, there is enough play to pull apart and get the muffler out, then swivel the tailpiece out of the way and get the ME pipe in. I put on the ME, got it all aligned and got the tailpipe tip located where I wanted it, I hung the hanger clamp that came with the ME, but did not tighten it, kept it loose some. Then, I pulled it together end to end with a ratcheting tie-down strap, nice and tight, hooked it on just aft of the CAT to the resonator body. The strap held everything perfecty tight and in place while I installed the band clamps. I finished the install with tightening the hanger that came with the ME pipe. Took me about an hour to remove and replace.
I installed the ME for the sole purpose of lowering EGT's, any possible gain in MPG's would be a plus, my EGT's are about 100* lower towing long grades. It is a great solution for EGT concerns. Like I stated already, the noise level did not really change that much, just lower, more throaty pitch. If it was too much I would have added a resonator tip, still may just cause they are a nice attractive addition.

I just did the ME kit last weekend. It was worth the money. My muffler didn't come off as easy but I did manage to get it apart. The sound is definitely deeper. The noise in the cab is only slightly louder. Outside it is a little louder but nothing ungodly. I haven't towed with it yet but so far it was worthwhile. As for MPG increase...I doubt you will see any. It will however lower your EGT. The only extra bits I bought were torque tite clamps so I could easily get ti apart in the future if need be. They were roughly $10 each (X2 of course).

Hey CRXsi
Where did you get your ME kit? Did you get it online or somewhere in Calgary? Just wondering as I am looking at getting one and live in Calgary also.
Thanks
