Muffler delete - flex pipe?

I want to do the muffler delete and was thinking of purchasing a kit to do it. That kit is on back order and now, beacuse I can't wait, was thinking of purchasing some flex pipe and using that for the muffler delete.

Anyone tried this before - successfully?

I've had friends with bad experiences using flex pipe. They generally ended up with much more drone that a straight pipe using all rigid piping.

But I think the best way to prevent drone is to make sure you have the entire system secured to the frame and regularly spaced intervals to make sure you don't have a long section unsupported that could begin resonating. If you decide to do flex pipe, I'd try to get hangers on both ends of the rigid pipe so that no weight is carried by the flex.

Yes you can run flex pipe to accomplish what you want to do, however as others stated make sure you securely mount the rigid pipe before & after the section of the flex pipe because the flex pipe will do just that (it will move some) causing your tail pipe to move around......Trust me because I did the same thing & my tail pipe would move about 2 inches from side to side.

A friend did flex on his 03 dually and secured it before and after the flex. It lasted about 3 months and it started developing leaks from all the movement. Needless to say he ended to up replacing it with geno's muffler delete.

I have a 5" magnaflow system, and replaced the muffler with a piece of 5" stainless flex. I don't have any leaks, but I do get some drone when pulling a trailer under throttle. I never attributed the drone to the flex though...I'll have to investigate!

A little flex pipe is ok! No more than 2 ft. Just like they've said, Make sure it is ridgid on both sides! The flex pipe will allow some movement without cracking the exahust or putting any strain on the turbo flange. Good quality stainless flex pipe is recomended. Good luck!

20 at a local exhaust shop. Have them cut it to length and flare it also. I welded mine in but they have some universale flanges you can put on as well.

I have had a flex pipe on my truck for about 11 months and have had no problems on my 06 3500 with 4 inch exhaust. It sounds just fine and the tail pipe will move a bit but all you need to do is secure it with wire or what not. Like i say mine is just fine. Plus it will alow you to hide your tail pipe a little which I like because people don,t know where the smoke is coming from.

+1, thought about going to a local shop but I needed a couple other items from Geno's so I just ordered the pipe. Quick replacement, fits perfectly, and sounds great on the 06.
