How much RWHP am I making???

I am new to DTR, but I have been reading here for six months.
I am confident someone can help give me some idea on how
much HP and TQ this truck is making. What should be my
next step in raising these numbers. Also it isn't stated
in my sig, but this is a 5-speed.

Re:How much RWHP am I making???

I'll take a guess at around 320-325hp...maybe a bit more cause it is an ETC.

Thanks Ramflasher. That's about what I expected. I love this truck, but this bombing stuff is addictive. The propane
should wake this baby up.

Re:How much RWHP am I making???

24PSI max boost???? There's something SERIOUSLY wrong with this picture. You should be able to hit that with STOCK injectors and your Diablo box.

I was able to hit 26psi on my truck with JUST the EZ. Adding DD2s put me up to 32psi max boost, stock turbo and everything air-related.

There's no way that 24psi of boost is enough to keep 325hp cool, EGT wise. Consider this: the STOCK ETH maxes out at 21psi, and will EASILY hit 1300° EGT with stock fueling and injectors. This is on a stock ETH which is about 220rwhp off the floor.

It doesn't seem reasonable that you can add 110hp and keep it cool with only 3 more psi of boost.

If you aren't having EGT issues, then you aren't getting nearly the fuel you think you are. With the stock turbo setup, you can guesstimate about 11hp per PSI of boost. That means my 32psi puts me near 340hp, which is what the EZ+DD2 combo is usually pretty close to with corrected numbers.

If you ARE getting all the fuel you think you are, then your EGTs should be SKY-HIGH. At least 1500°.

Check for boost leaks on the intercooler boots.

IF there are no leaks, and your EGTs are within reason, then I hate to tell you, but you don't have nearly the fuel you think you do. You Are probably right around 260 RWHP. It's possible you got ripped on the injectors.

80 HP injectors will net you WAY more than 3psi increase in boost all by themselves.

Am I crazy to think this? I am missing something?

Re:How much RWHP am I making???

HOHN,
I saw that you stated that you should have around 11 HP for every pound of boost that you have. I know that is a rough way to figure HP but I was wondering if that rule is true for both the 12 and 24 valve trucks. I have heard this before but I was told that it is only for the 24 valve trucks. Thanks for any help.

Re:How much RWHP am I making???

So that is with a stock turbo. That is something that I have not heard before. I guess I can't use that method to figure out how much HP(roughly) I am making.

Re:How much RWHP am I making???

So if I'm making 31-32 lbs. of boost my truck is over 300 RWHP?

FWIW, I can confirm

My stock truck makes 16-17 lbs of boost. That would be 176 "ballpark" HP. I'm going to be interested to see what will change by simply plugging the wastegate. Theory says if there's no more fuel, there's no more HP. Will there be more boost? I'll find out!
We used boost as a measure of engine potential often. We didn't have a "magic number" like 11, but a chart that equated a CPL with a boost spec. It was always pretty accurate!

Re:How much RWHP am I making???

I think this measure of HP is only close to accurate on a mostly stock truck, when you start changing fuel delivery and turbos it changes everything.

Re:How much RWHP am I making???

I'm gonna guess 320 if you have extrude honed injectors, and 340hp if you have Don M's EDM's.... 8)

Re:How much RWHP am I making???

I've spend a lot of time on the dyno with mine since we got one at my shop. If i was to make a decent estimate on what your setup is. you are probably between 250-260 RWHP. My truck with just the vanakkan box and stock injectors will do 235 RWHP. I run on a mustang dyno.

Re:How much RWHP am I making???

Thanks for all the input guys. The truck is getting plenty of fuel, trust me. These are 80HP injectors, and my EGT's rarely reach 1400. The truck will break 305's loose on dry pavement in 3rd gear and in 4th on wet. I hope I am not opening a can of worms, but I am just trying to give you an idea on how the truck performs. I have had 13,000# behind and pulled some steep hills here in the Ozarks and rarely reached 1500. I don't have to drive by my egt guage when I'm pulling a load, but I have a new stock clutch and that is what limits the go petal. Maybe my guage needs calibrated. I might have a leak. Help!!!
