The MT/R 285's Got Mounted Today (pics)

Just Tires in Fairfax had a heck of a deal on them so hopefully they will get me through the winter. I installed the front coil spacers and 2" spacers between the rear wheels. Two inches in the rear is way more than enough. Just for the heck of it I tried w/o the spacers and it looked to have about an 1/8th of an inch at the bulge with 40psi and a half of a ton in the bed. I do hope to move up to a 35" or 37" 12.50 this summer so i'm sure they will fill the void a little better...

A few pics...

Question(s)?? Do they make a spacer less than 2" for the rear? I pull about 14k with the 5th and don't want to big of a tire but like the way these 285's look on the dually. I'm not crazy about the 2" rear spacer but I also am not crazy about the 1/8" clearance mentioned above. Has anyone ever created a 1" or 3/4" that would not need all the double lug nuts? Can you get these 285's in load range "E" or better? By the way RatherBeMuddin... "Truck Looks Great"

The 1/8 inch clearance deffinetly wouldn't cut it if you tow/ haul. As far as the 1 inch spacer i'm not to sure, you may just have to call around on that one. The only thing I don't like about this set up is that they are only D rated tires. The weight rating is 3195 @ 65psi per tire, but man they are made out of some soft compound. I'm not really planning on towing a whole lot through the winter so I thought these would do. However I do need to get around in the Mi and Mn snow they next few months for work, hopefully these will do the job. I can't really think of any E rated tires in this size, there are several in the 35 and 37 inch, but not many in the 33 inch size.

Muddin, Check out some Cooper tires, I put on Cooper M/S on my dually and Cooper s/t's are also great. Both are studdable and are true Mud and Snow tires. The S/T's will probably outlast the M/S's but the M/S are siped like crazy and are glued to the ice. 110% Happy. Lost a 1/16 of tread in 6000 miles on pavement running. Now that its cold and snowy treadwear is minimal. I wish I had gone with the 265's they would fit in the Coopers without spacers no problem. In fact 285's would probably fit in the M/S as the tread width is narrower than stock. The narrow profile bites hard in snow yet handles great on pave. ks

Looks good. I love the look of the MT/R. Too bad they burn off so soon.

I like the quad in the bed. Which Cat is that? I have the 03' 500i. I decided to lose 2 wheels and some really big fenders to go to 37's. Being E-rated is nice too.

I haven't seen a spacer less than 2 inches that I know of. I have plenty of room between the two with 35's. I'm just not sure how 37's will wear with the narrow factory rims.

It's an '04 650 v-twin. I have had it for about 5 months and it only has 120 miles on it. Hopefully I will get to put it to use up in MI.

I hope you have better luck with the MT/R than I did. I had a set on my truck and they only lasted about 15,000 miles before the tread was almost gone! The tread wear was very even and flat, they just wore out very quickly. The only reasoning that I could come up with was that my truck is just too heavy for these tires. I have friends that have run MT/Rs on 1/2 tons and they seem to last a decent amount of miles for them.
I love the looks of the MT/Rs and the traction is outstanding, but I won't put another set on my Cummins truck.

I 2nd that I have about 18XXX on my truck and for the price I paid for them just isn't worth it I go through a set every 10-12 months at this rate.
