Hey Billy, if it was me i would just get a set of 75-100hp injectors, they are just so cheep for you I couldn't do anything else. And it would be real power all the time. Just a thought. And then if the bottom is stil sluggish, get an EZ to stack.

billygoatyj
05-16-2006, 10:00 AM
Cheap you say? Well that would be nice for me. I would like to get the smarty but I'm not sure I want to spend that much money, at least not right now. I think I do remember hearing that the HO's respond better to injectors and the SO like the boxes more. Which injectors would you suggest and what kind of money are we talkin. I've got a little money I can play with but we know what happens when you dip into the reserve too far for something that isn't neccisarry...you lose a clutch and the vp goes belly up, and then the hot water heater at the hose goes out and the wife is [verymad] [dummy] Injectors have been on the list of wants for a while maybe they need to move up the list. Did someone say something about a wrench session coming up. [whistle] We might have the need for one.

streetsmoker
05-16-2006, 06:34 PM
A set of BD's 90hp xxx-Pulse injectors are $500. Or get the tips only and change them out yourself for $43.50 a piece. They not nothing special, just higher flow Bosh replacements. Like I said, stupid cheap. If I had a 12v or 24v that would be 1st on my list.

Did someone say Wrench Session? [guitar]

ProspectorTim
05-16-2006, 09:27 PM
I think I'll be ready for a wrench session real soon.
I need to rebuild/re-shim the Luke's Link on my truck, AND I've already ordered the Energy Suspension urethane sway bar bushings from Summit Racing. Oh yeah, I also ordered the Enegery Suspension bushing for the other end of my drag link.

What was wrong with the knee? I remember you said you were having trouble with it at the last meet.

streetsmoker
05-18-2006, 03:25 AM
Hey Dmax, do you have Mid South's #??? Let me know. We were talking at the last meeting about having a dyno day there, but it's up to the group, if theywant to have another wrench session someplace it's cool with me.

streetsmoker
05-18-2006, 03:37 AM
Oh yeh, I almost forgot. For the guys who showed up last time they should remember me telling them about the big antique car show that was in town called the "Blue Suede Cruise" well, after everyone left for home, I went by there to see if anything interesting had showed up. I was about to leave, when I heard the faint sound of a 12v B-5.9 Cummins behind me. Low and behold, this thing comes pulling up. I have a post on it in the "General Diesel Topic" forum about the "Coolest Cummins Powered Tow Rig Ever".

Well, I just got off the phone with Sam ar Mid South, and no go on him hosting anything next month quoting that he had a couple guys quit recently, and July is the soonest he could do it now.

So here's the million dollar question:

Dyno Day at Dynospeed in Mempis? "OR" wrench session somewhere next month???? Let me know so I can get things rolling and the dates set.

Thats him, thats the guy. See I told yall I made a new friend. Yall didnt belive me when I told you about him and just laughed and said whatever. And unlike most comments that were made, hes not imaginary either. I told you so :D

Welcome on Karl. It was nice talking to you the other day. Im glad you found the board and got on here to hang around with us. As you can see, we are taking requests for a Dyno day or wrench session so speak up and let everybody know what you would like. Now that you have posted you belong to the group and your opinion matters and is heard so give it out whenever you feel like it. Good or bad, we dont care as long as you voice it :)

Its ok to tell Streetsmoker that his truck is slow, He doesnt take offence to it I promise.
And yes, its ok to tell Totallyrad that he drives like a grandma :D
WOOF WOOF!

streetsmoker
05-19-2006, 06:34 PM
Yeh, I'll tell yah. If I can only break into the 19's in the 1/4 I think I wont be slow anymore [roll]. If anyone wants, I can post a new thread only fot the sake of a new meeting. Let me know? We welcome all new members real or imagined, so I'll just have to take Dmax at his word. By the way, I ordered that new turbo today Dmax, so it should be there in a week or so. They need a couple days to machine the flange to accept the factory exhaust neck, so it wont ship till Wed. I would wait for our wrench session, but I need to try it out before then.

From your house, take a left onto pleasant hill rd. go about 3/4 mile and make a right on graham Lake Dr. I am about 1/4 mile down on the left. My truck is in the drive or a big solid black Excursion is.
Watch out for the Heeler though, hes been acting wierd towards strangers lately. I guess he is getting even more protective of his property as he gets older. As long as me or the wife are here he's just a big puppy, but if we are not, he will let you know that he is on guard.

On a lighter note, the UPS man should get out of the hospital this week sometime. I told him just leave the package on the front door step but no, he wanted to make sure it was safe and tried to go into the back yard [dummy] :D

05-21-2006, 04:31 AM
Man you're up late tonight Patrick. So what does the group here think about a meeting next. 2nd or 3rd weekend in June, where and what would be a good meeting place/time?

Totallyrad
05-21-2006, 10:44 PM
Bout to head to the Kroger and get some fine imported beverages. :D
[director] WARNING I would advise you to be careful. It has come to my attention that a group of young men were targeted for harassment recently while leaving a Kroger store in the 2plo area. After purchasing some fine imported beverages they were singled out by "a fool" wearing a Chic-filet uniform. The "harasser" approached the "harassees" and stated he had witnessed someone strike a particular black Dodge and then flee the scene. Since the "harasser" seemed to find this humorous and failed to stop the perpetrator by any means, including lying down in front of their vehicle, he nearly was assaulted by one of the "harassees".

On a side note, Dr. Dodge says my rack and pinion unit needs replacing, leaking seals. I just smiled as the service advisor told me she was going to "run the numbers" for me. It was soon apparent that "the numbers" were going to be for Dodge's benefit, not mine, as I had purchased an extended warranty with -$0- deductible. [nonono] The parts were supposed to be in Friday and rackectamy will probably take place this week.

I'm thinking the 3rd weekend in June would be better than the second, as for time and place, I have no idea.

streetsmoker
05-25-2006, 12:27 AM
Ok guys, time to get things kicked in high gear. Next meet will be June, 17th. Only thing we need to decide on as a group, is where and what????? Speak up and be counted. As soon as we decide, I'll post a new thread announcing it. If there is no general consensus as to what we'll do, I'll have to make an executive decission. Cause most places like a months notice at least. As a list of possibilities, I suggest the following.

Wrench Session
Picnic/BBQ meeting at a park somewhere
Dinner Meeting@ Hooters
Dyno Day meet at Dynospeed in Memphis
Meet-n-Greet at 4Wheel Parts

I have a dana 35 complete drum to drum, I think it even has the brake lines. It came out of a five speed so it has the 3.08 gears, but I have the matching gear set for the front 30. I also have a np231 transfer case that was rebuilt around 20k mi. ago and the puegot in front of it. But the tranny will pop out of a few gears so I just replaced both with a t-18 and np-205. The transfer case is in good shape. I also have a few 33's off brand mt's that would be good for spares. A bell housing that came off the t-18 as well. Oh and the stock front drive shaft from the jeep. If you know anybody that would need this stuff let me know. It's all sitting in the bed of the 57 and I have no use for them, well exept the wieght makes the truck ride a little smother.

Wow ! Hey guys, I just removed my glasspak that came with my 4" exhaust system ya'll helped me install and replaced with the resonated AeroTurbine 4040L. I likes it ! It sounds a LOT better than stock or the glasspak. I even had pipe going halfway through my glasspak cause I knew I was going to need more pipe for the shorter Aeroturbine. Under acceleration it has a deep growl but not loud. There is no drone in the cab at 70mph and there is definetly a seat of the pants improvement in accleration......plus it makes a real cool sound when you shut the engine off. you can hear the turbo going WOOOSSSsssssshhhhh for a long time after shutting off

Well, I've had plenty of seat time with my new turbo along with a few races with the kids around here. And I love this thing.

Last night was funny. We were all siting around watching a few guys race, when things died down and folks started going home. Most would peel out or try to burnout as they left. A few would get laughed at. So when I left I decided to give em' all a show and do a blackout/burnout. This new Phat Shaft is great for this, cause it takes a while to get spooled, so it blows thick black smoke till it lights. I don't think anyone there had ever seen anything like it, cause a few came up to me afterwars and said that was the best burnout they'd seen, and asked how I got the tires to smoke dark black [laugh] [duhhh]. I just said it was a special additive i put on them and left.

With the G56, you got to keep it 65 and under to get the good milage. I went from here to B'ham AL and up to Huntsville at 60 and got a shade over 24MPG. Keep the RPM's under 2000 and it will sip the fuel instead of gulping it.

smokey196240

dmax-24 miles per gallon, are you serious????

holy cohones batman!!!!!

I am trying to get 18 out of mine, but have not made it yet.

On another note, I guess I got all the crap out of my fuel system. I let her real low on fuel the night I was dirving back. Becuase I couldn't find a freakin station with diesel. SO now it surges when I am drivin it hard. SO this weekend will entail a fuel filter change. Should take care of everything. I hope

Perry-15 sounds good on that new of a rig and that much weight. As it breaks in you will get more.

24 mpg? What's wrong with your truck?

I don't know what kind of mileage I'm getting, but I love it when the "AVG MPG" on the console (AKA the Liar's Guage) goes above 30.

The Liar's Guage on my truck checked out pretty accurate when the truck was stock, so I quit calculating. The mileage varys so much anyhow - towing/empty, uphill/downhill, city/hwy, headwind/tailwind, slow/fast. Way too many variables to the extremes when we lived in Colorado (when the truck was stock). I got anywhere from 9 mph towing the camper in the mountains 75-80 mph against a headwind, to "over 20" empty, flat or downhill and little or no wind.

Then I added the 275 injectors. Now the truck runs better and probably gets better mileage when I'm not hot-rodding it; but it is also burning fuel that the computer (Liar's Guage) doesn't know about. So, I just enjoy looking at the bigger numbers and smile. I thougt it was great, driving from Falcon, CO to Colorado Springs (about 15 miles, mostly downhill and only a couple of lights) and seeing 24 mpg.

But that was before I wore out the tranny.
Now, I have an ATS tranny with the TripleLok converter *and* the TripleLok Commander. Now, if I want to put some really good numbers on the Liar's Guage, I can putt around locked in overdrive just above idle. Best I've seen so far was 32 MPG. Driving "normal" I usually see 21-22 around town and 23-24 "cruising" on the interstate. I can nail 25-28 if I slow down to 55 and don't catch any red lights. The main point is that your mileage can vary a LOT depending on where you are going and how you drive it. Oh yeah, traffic lights SUCK!

I don't know what kind of mileage I'm really getting, but I know it is WAY better than stock. Maybe someday I'll do a mileage test and calculate the real numbers.

I need new tires for my truck.
Sticking with stock rims & stock size: 245-75-16E

The last 2 sets of tires were BFG AT/KO's, but this time I'm looking for a good highway tire with good wet-weather traction (the KO's suck when wet) and a smooth ride (keeping in mind it IS a shortbed 2500 4x4!)

Since I've moved downtown and I'm trying to sell the camper and ATVs, I'm not planning to do hardly anything off-road.

I've been looking at the BFG Long Trail and the Michelin LTX at Sam's and Costco, though I'm not anxious to go back to Michelin's. My beef with Michelin goes back about 20 years, so maybe it is time to reconsider.

What tires do you guys recommend? (is there anybody else on here running stock size, "street" tires on a 4x4?)

Is there a discount tire store in the Memphis area that can beat Sam's or Costco? Or maybe has a better variety of brands to pick from?

Costco even has a coupon for $60 off when you buy 4 BFG or Michelin tires by June 25th. They may be hard to beat.

I was surfin the web and I like the description of these Goodyear Fortera TripleTred (http://www.goodyear.ca/goodyeartireselectorca/display_tire.jsp?prodline=Fortera+TripleTred&mrktarea=Light+Truck) tires, but what the heck kind of load range is this "SL"?

I know, load range D tires with thinner sidewalls and lower air pressure would ride softer than the load range E tires, but then, the camper ain't sold yet. Plus, I tend to overload the truck anytime I need to haul something.

Prospector, I've looked pretty hard at the Goodrich Long Trail and think it would be a great street tire with good ratings for highway use. I just want a little more mud traction so I am getting ready to try my first set of AT KO's in the 295 size with a new 8" wide rim. I ran Cooper LT 285's on my 6.5" rims and they wore pretty fast in the center, other than that they had great traction. I think the wider/larger tire helped wet pavement traction a lot. I just did not know then that 285's don't mix good with narrow rims [duhhh]

Well, the Fotura Tripletread is out. No load-range E in them.
The "truck" part of their truck/SUV description is for 1/2 ton trucks.

Now I'm looking at the Goodyear Wrangerl SilentArmor or Bridgestone Dueler AT (the dueler HT is also not available in loadrange E).

I can get the Goodyears from Sam's (special order) @ $166.38 each, and their mount/balance/stem/road-hazard deal is one of the best.
Anybody konw of a better deal?

BTW, here is a nice tire comparison chart from TireRack.com (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=ORAT)

I would definitely consider 265's, but probably nothing bigger will go under my truck without rubbing the silly fiberglass fenders & running boards that the dealer installed on my truck before I ever saw it. I've tried to get 265's at Costco & Sams before, but they will only install it if it is on the doorjam sticker. To keep it cheap, I've had to stick with the 245's http://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb/frown.gif

I personally think that you should go with a set of these Prospector.

http://www.intercotire.com/piclib/572.jpg

I am seriously considering a set of these for my dually though.see below they wont last any time and will handle like crap, but you cant say it wouldnt look awsome.
I just need to find an extra set of dually rims so I can swap them out between street tires and these.

Take a look at the Cooper Discover ATR. That is what I run, good all around tire for all applications. The tread is very similar to the Toyo Open Country AT's. Check out 4Wheel Parts. Best place in town to buy tires for trucks, and you can't beet the "NO QUESTIONS ASKED" road hazard warranty for just 10% of the purchase price of a tire. The Nitto Terra Grappler is another option to consider.

BillyGoat,

Have you thought about going to some of the machine shops around memphis? They sometimes can use your type of skills. Also, if you have any kind of company with an assembly line, they are always trying to come up with something to make the manufacturing process faster.

Just throwing out some ideas. If you can run autocad pretty good, you can always swing by any old modular or manufacturing home plant. I work for a mobile and odular home plant. I make in the mid 50's, but that may be peanuts to yah.

I have a feeling the fact that I dont work out on the floor is why I am having all these little pains. I dont went "soft". I guess I will have to do push ups and sit ups and run on the tread mill to keep my poor old body in shape so I dont have this problem. I promised the neighbor I would heck out the brakes on her truck so now I have that to do and tear up my muscle some more.
I would go to the doctor and get some muscle relaxers but I am one of those thats affraid of finding out something else is wrong so I try not to go that often. Last time I went to the doctor I was having surgery the next week, but thats a whole nother story there. I knew what the problem was then, just didnt know it was that bad!!! ProspectorTim
06-30-2006, 01:46 AM
Man, I don't know if I can handle the pressure! Oh no, what am I going to do??

I know - I'll check with my "events coordintor" (Wife) to see when we don't have a conflict of interests... wait, that ain't right. I check to see when we DO have a conflict of interests; I'll do the truck stuff and she can go shopping, or whatever. I just need to make sure the truck stuff doesn't conflict with any other planned activities.

Meanwhile, about that stuff you call "New castle" (btw, there is no "space" in Newcastle) - I'm working on a plan.

My wife coerced me into a committment ("are you going or NOT?") for tonight (Friday), to do the free Trolley tour (http://www.southmainmemphis.org/calendar.asp) of the South Main Arts District with some of the folks from her office. It goes from 6-9, but I'm hoping we don't hang out till they kick us out. Anyway, I've heard there may be free wine samplees along the way. :)

After the wine tour, um, I mean trolley tour, we plan to head over to Silky O'Sullivans for a while.

Now you might wonder, how does this fit into my "plan"?

I can quit working on my truck and clean up "early" (I hope to have time to install the new u-joints and reinstall the rear drive shaft *and* install the new Luke's Link in the drag link tomorrow). I could meet Dmax or anyone else for that matter at Sleepout Louie's at 5 and kill some Newcastles until my wife drags me out kicking and screaming, to go to the Trolly/wine/Beer festival (I just made that part up!). My support-group (that is you guys) is welcome to accompany me on the beer/trolly/wine/more beer excursion towards Silkys - and beyond.

You see, these old phearts she works with probably won't last past midnight. Come to think of it, my wife probably won't last that long either. When they burn out, I light out. Simple plan huh?

Oh yeah, I'll switch to coke or tea well before midnight; 'cause when they fold, I'll probably be heading back out to the shop to work on the truck some more!

Whatcha say - Sleepout Louie's at 5? sooner? Not later!

ProspectorTim
06-30-2006, 12:59 PM
Update: My wife's co-workers backed out, but she still wants to do the trolley tour. This ought to make the plan a lot more flexible.

ProspectorTim
07-01-2006, 01:42 AM
I guess I ought to give y'all a little more warning next time I have a "plan".

I stopped by DmaxEter's shop today, partley to make sure he knew about the plan, and partly to match names to faces. Otherwise, we might not recognize each other when we do meet downtown. He was there and we had a nice chat; but he already had other commitments related to helping a buddy with a broke truck. A broke FORD truck. I just had to say that. The devil made me do it!

Y'all missed a pretty good time. We (my wife & I) went over to Sleep Out Louie's and I had a Newcastle. Then I had another one for DmaxEter. As we left Sleep Out Louie's I called Dmax and told him about it. He had been working hard and was thirsty, so that made him feel better. Anytime dude!

Then we did the Trolley Tour thing. By golly, they DID have free wine, beer, spiked punch and pretty decent snacks. It was worth the price (a couple of hours of my time; no $$). :) They do this the last Friday of every month. I'm not sure if it is year-round, or only in the summer.

We followed that up with stops at Silky O'Sullivans and Coyote Ugly (new to Bealle St; just opened a couple of months ago) and topped it off with seeing the Cars (http://movies.excite.com/MovieSummary.jhtml?movieId=41469) movie. We really enjoyed that one. It didn't hurt that Larry The Cable Guy was the voice for the wrecker; and he did get a "Git-r-done" in there once during the movie.

Now, here it is, past 1:30 am. Do I go to bed and work on the truck tomorrow, or head to the shop NOW? Hmmm local weather says 81 degrees now; forecast 99 tomorrow. My luck it will hit at least 100.
Dmax, I'll have to show you the Lukes Link some other time. I need to get my truck put back together so I can drive an air-conditioned truck instead of the Blazer that ain't. I'm gonna go and Git-R-done!

The Commemorative Air Force local squadon (we haven't decided on a Sq. name yet) will be holding our monthly meeting at Dewitt Spain Airport this Saturday.

Here is the email I got today:

As a reminder, the SBD-5 Dauntless is in the hangar. I recently sent a note out inviting everyone to come see this beautiful piece of history. The aircraft is still here, but will be heading back to the Dixie Wing in Atlanta shortly. So, please use this opportunity to come out and see this aircraft. As a bonus you will hear one of the staff members, Col David Peeler, speak of the history of the Dauntless, as well as how the aircraft flies, as he has been flying in airshows with the aircraft this summer.

Also, as time permits, we will have another speaker. Our Safety Officer, Col Jeff Linebaugh, will speak of his experiences as a military instructor for the Air Force.

We are very fortunate to have both men speak, and know that you will enjoy it!

In addition, our squadron is still looking for ideas for our "official"

name, as well as creative ideas for a patch. We would like something that would help identify our squadron as being from Memphis, the Delta, etc...

Brainstorm, and please let us know your ideas on Saturday.

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or ideas. ...

I am missing my boy guys. He started to limp a little bit into playing ball the other day and I have been watching him closely since. Today it was pretty bad so I tied him up and looked and found he had something wrong with one of his claws. I loaded him up and took him to the vet. She said he had broken the claw off and the ????quick???? also went with it. The bone was sticking out where his claw normally is. They are going to sedate him and remove the claw in the AM and I can pick him up around 10:30.

That little episode he had in the front yard with the poop thing at the meet turned out to be where he ate one of the neighbors kids stuffed toys and the stuffing stopped him up. [yuk] He was sick that night and couldnt hardly move until he puked and pooped all the stuffing out then he was good to go again. [roll] I wondered why his poop kept sticking with him after he tried to pinch it off. Thats why. I also found the neighbors kid was giving the toys to him to watch him tear into them. I have since stopped that [verymad] [nonono]

I tell you what, a Heeler is a handfull thats for sure. He is 1 and 1/2 years old and has to date had: Blocked digestive system 3 times. Raw hides twice and the stuffed toy thing once. Broken left rear leg. Spiral fracture after deciding the dog tied up in the front yard at a house wanted to play with him. We were doing 50mph when he decided all this and bailed out of the back of the truck :o Now the broken claw thing. Oh yea, he turned to go after a ball I had thrown and busted his head on a fire hydrant. Poor Ralph. Hes still my number one boy though!!!

DMAX, I am starting to wonder if Ralph takes after you. I mean, he is a neat dog, but I dunno, he appears to be a few floors short of the top floor. haha

Jumping out of a truck running 50 mph, and then the site thing, I guess all he could say when you threw the ball was "GET THE BALL, GET THE BALL, PATRICK SAID GET THE BALL?" IN my best abonable snowman voice from Looney Tunes. And just not seeing or thinking he could run through the fire hydrant. haha

Hope he gets back up soon.

I installed the new steering column bushing Sunday night and, um, er, things didn't go so well. Read about it starting here (http://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1563221#post1562310) (another guy had the same problem the day before). Yeah after it started acting up we got a hotel so we wouldnt be stranded on the interstate. The bad thing is they charged extra for the dogs, so needless to say the dogs got a bath to clean them up from the days events. [laugh] When I got home I ordered a edge juice with attitude. Not having a fuel pressure gauge in the cab was a great excuse to justify the new toy. Bad thing is now its like Christmas eve waiting for it to get here.
Also, like ProspectorTim said, when and where is the next meeting.

An air-conditioned shop in or near downtown Memphis would be nice.

I wish I could offer to meet at my shop, but it is a HANGER at the airport, and too many people are watching everything you do out there, vehicle access is limited by PIN and matching finrgerprint, I only have a little bit of parking space next to my hanger, and weekends are usually pretty busy out there.
It is definitly not the place to do smokey burnouts (way too many nosey neighbors, and they still treat me as an "outsider" because I don't own an airplane yet).

Edit:
But - I could get together on a smaller scale; maybe one or two trucks, just about anytime.

The starter contacts already went. Before I knew you could get them I bought a new starter. oh well. I only have 83000 on it so hopefully the tranny will last a while. Hey Streetsmoker just read a thread on another site about running to much psi on the new trucks and ruinning the injectors. Just my two cents.

Only problems people seem to have is with the Edge EZ or similiar pressure only boxes and running them wide open all the time. I don't have a pressure problem, it's more a conflict of personalities among my Edge and BDPP influenced ECM when the speed limiter kicks in.

wrglrroper
08-09-2006, 06:19 PM

I know when I worked at the dodge dealer....briefly...6 months....our tranny guy stayed pretty busy all the time. He messed with a few of the truck auto's but most of the trucks on the road around here at the time were farm trucks with 5/6 speeds. The rest of dodges trannies at that time were, ahhhhhh, well....not so good either. I heard though that they were supposed to have improved them A LOT with the new....what is it, 48re?? I hope so, got the wife convinced that a quad cab, with the Cummins and auto would be a good family hauler :D :D First step, drop the exhaust.....guages....chip/box........"why's it go so fast honey??"....."ahhhh, I don't know [whistle] [whistle]

Hey Wrglr did you go out 20 down there by Cullman? I drove that way back from Atlanta a few months back. Not a bad drive, I did not like the idea of driving up 24 north to Nashville, then cutting down 65 south to get to my house as Mapquest said I should do..... :o

Ok, is that edge pretty good? I have heard a lot about the smarty but I would like to change on the fly if I have to.....bad mosquito swarm or something  And anymore about where we might meet next? He said he would love to get into dodge trannies, but has a waiting period of 3months rite now just doing the Ford stuff, so as long as he's busy with them, we can only sit and wait. WOW guys, The Fabtech off road suspension truck was in our shop today. It was cool and I have to give a big thumds up to William Smith. He was great to all of us. We got t-shirts and hats and DVD's and Bottle openers and stickers and all kinds of cool things. The best thing I got was information about a lift for my truck. They really seem to have their stuff down in the R&D department. He is gonna find out some answers from the R&D department for me and call me back. After feeling the lack of flex from my superlift set up, I am willing to try anyones system. It was a real treat and I got to get out of the office and help work on the truck to. Me and another tech worked together on it. Had a bad air dryer that was bypassing the discharge signal air into the purge air and wouldnt let the compressor unload.

Hey Dmax, you gonna lift your Dodge! How high you thinking about going? I saw a picture a while back of a 3500 with serious lift on it and great big mud killing tires. I liked it cause it was still dualled in the back. I think the duallies look awesome with the lift on them, just hard to work on! Not that us Dodge guys have to worry about that.....just our aftermarket toy installations! :D
Was that a subliminal flame against other brands?? [whistle] I miss working on the diesels, at the dodge dealer that was the joy, when one came in, even if it was suspension/interior work or something other than the engine. At least I got to here it rattle in the shop. Now it's crappy ol' cadillacs......not even worth waking up in the morning! Should have a bored or yawn smiley on this list [laugh]

If anyone is interested, the Commemorative Air Force Memphis Squadron is having our monthly meeting in the morning. Come on out if you have a chance.
DmaxEater has my cell #.

It is time for our August meeting. We will meet as always in the CAF Hangar at the DeWitt Spain Airport this Saturday the 12th, at 930am. For this month we have decided that everyone will meet at 930, instead of the staff meeting at 930 and the unit at 1000, so we will not fail to include anyone in our meetings.

Our squadron will have visitors from the Dixie Wing in Atlanta, Georgia. A handful of members will be flying up in the C45, and will be offering rides for $75. So please arrive at 930am for the meeting and take advantage of the ride opportunity while we have our fellow members in for a visit.

Also, our speaker for the meeting will be our very own Unit Leader, Col Morris Ray. Col Ray will give a short talk on the Stearman that is currently hangared in the CAF hangar at DeWitt Spain.

Off the subject, but you guys won't FREAKIN BELIEVE THIS S@#%!!!! On my way home tonight, about 10 miles from home, if that far. On the 4 lane towards Lawrenceburg, near the Maury County airport. In the right lane, cruise set on 65(speed limit) listening to Phil Valentine. Had the trailer with me with two engine blocks secured at the nose and a bed full of old gears, rotors, aluminum, lead wheel weights....about 400 pounds of those heavy suckers.

So I check my mirrors, see a guy in a yellow jeep coming up at the rear of the trailer. Listen to the radio and all of the sudden....yep, you guessed it.....
BBBLLLLLLAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!! Pinch the seat yet again and look in my mirror and see this yellow jeep kissing my trailer just in front of the first axle, where my spare tire is mounted. His back end is angled away from the trailer and I see sparks flying off the left front of the jeep.....where........ahhhhhh....his front tire should be???  I whip to the right to get him off me, then concentrate on the road so I don't run over some unsuspecting bike rider or something. I get stopped and see a cloud of dust as he plows off the road into the dirt. I get out, very mad.... [verymad] [verymad] cussing.....look at the carnage, thump my hand off the toolbox for some disbelief relief and walk on up towards the jeep wreckage where I am met halfway by the other driver. Both ok, he said, "my wheel flew off". I told him I saw the sparks and knew what had happened. Another guy came over and was an off duty officer from the Buro and said he saw the whole thing....thank goodness, witnesses, unlike my runin several weeks ago with the illegal......south of the border fella.
He said the boy did a good job of keeping the jeep off the truck. I knew he was at the back of the trailer, but did not know he had gotten to the side of the truck. I don't think he did cause I was watching until just before it happened.

So I look at the trailer and get out the tools to remove my new dead carlise tire with the holes in the side of it. Figure, what the heck, I'll go check out the carnage on his jeep. The driver side tire was about150 yards away on the opposite side of the road. The right front tire had a huge hole in it from my trailer gutting it. I told the guy he was lucky, with the 33" tires and lift kit on the jeep that he did not roll over, he agreed and said that was what he thought was gonna happen. I think I was there for a reason, if I was not there and him doing 70mph, front wheel comes off and it goes to the right hard....I think he would have rolled several times. Now, me in this unfortunate equation, tire goes bye, bye, he goes to the right, my trailer relieves the air pressure in his right front tire and levels off the front end to avoid some roll bar testing on a jeep.

Trailer and operator are fine. Shifted my engine blocks about 1.5 feet. Yes, they were strapped down. All these hits from the left, I need one from the right to throw my back into place!! [laugh] [laugh] Better not say that, I'll get the truck out of the body shop and get creamed by a trailer truck!! :o

Holy crap, I motion to have Dodgeguy voted out of this group. Its only a matter of time before his bad luck starts rubbing off on all of us. All in favor say aye?

AYE!!

[laugh] Just kidding. Man it sucks when stuff like that just keeps happening. Maybe this is the last one of the streak and you are home free from here on, I hope at least. I guess it doesnt matter what happens as long as you are ok. We can replace the truck and trailer.

Bad thing is I drive this same road and have for the the last 4-5 years and put 150,000 miles on my saturn without even a flat tire! 18 years of driving and nothing.......then....maybe I have to go find me a witch doctor or something to do whatever [laugh] [laugh]

Man!!! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one here with bad luck lately [laugh] [laugh] [coffee]. Sux real bad this seems to keep happening to you though.

I sure hope more people sign on for the dyno event by the 1st, if not we'll have to cancel it. I thought for sure we would easily get 10 rigs to sign on but only 3 so far [verymad]. If this doesn't pan out, loks like Abby's idea for the next meeting location sounds like a good deal.

Im trying. I got my 64 running yesterday and I am going to be putting a lot of time and money in it. But I sure would like to see how much that edge really gives my truck. By the way I have tried about 1000 codes so far for the hot code and nothing. It could be the next one though never know. Dodgeguy you would have really puckered up if that would have happened right after the body shop. :o

Dodgeguy, I'm just curious and glad you're OK by the way. Did you determine why his LF came off? Loose nuts on or behind the wheel? Was he listening to an old country favorite on the radio? Come on guys, someone knows the title to that old country song about the guy driving down the road and having his tire fall off. Anybody want to jump in here?

streetsmoker
08-20-2006, 01:00 AM
That there song is by Charlie Daniels and the title as best I remember is: "The Do Drop In".

DmaxEter
08-20-2006, 01:19 AM
I think you are refering to "Uneasy Rider" there slowpoker, I mean streetsmoker. It makes reference to a tire going flat, not a tire and wheel coming off.
Someone please correct me if'n im wrong [duhhh]

Actually, I was thinking of a "take" on another song. You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel,[duhhh] going fast down the highway with a leaky rear seal, you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel.:D :D :D

Well then a song like that can only be by one of 2 people:

I was actually checking out his wheels and wheel studs as he was trying to jack the front end up.....Just by looking it did not seem like his studs were long enough when compared to the aluminum wheel he had on there. Not to sure if he or someone had the wheel off recently. I know I did not see one lug nut and it did not look like 5 broken studs. Who knows though, all that weight hanging off the end of those axles like that is not good, not designed for that and all that.

Now today my trailer slid off my blocks under my jack leg and the weight in front of the trailer made it slide and it bent the jack so it would not go down or up..... [verymad] [verymad] Good thing for low range, drug it out of the hole and finished off the jack, then used a bottle jack and wood to get in hooked to the truck so I could bring it up to the house for tire replacement, my original intention. Now it's tire replacement and jack replacement.... Got a pile of steel a show dog could'nt jump over and need to haul it off....gotta find me a job where I don't have to do all this side s@*t to make a living! If your serious Roper, I'll book a room for us. If you don't mond splitting the cost? I called the these ones for rates:

Ho Jo: $69
Hampton: $79
Super 8: $53

Those are the closest to the track. All depends on your taste I guess. Let me know and we'll meet at the Hotel we choose. I do plan on running the truck there by the way. Know anyone who's got a set of slicks I can borrow? [coffee] I will need to find a helemt though.

Maybe a...........Newcastle donation?? :o :o I'm gonna have to try and find one of these mysterious Newcastles......yeah, I said one. I am a VERY cheap drunk!! A little late to the party Dmax, but you see, it works every time. [coffee]

Those stickers have to be done by the local clubs. I've looked into it, but as of yet there has not been enough steady interest in our chapter to get the initial set printed up. It's somewhat expensive to get a completely new series of vinyl stickes done with graphics and with people here comming and going, I kinda put it on the back burner.

I missed out of knocking back some new castles with Prospector last night. He called and I was just dettling down from working on the neighbors crap. Man I feel like im wasting my life away working on everyone elses crap. It never fails, this weekend I have to fix a flat tire on the neighbors mower, try and finish putting a fuel pump in their truck, try and find the pickup tube assembly due to the wiring being burnt up in the old one for this truck, change the oil in the Brother in laws truck, and find time to change my own oil and work on our antique truck!!! Every week as soon as I get home my neighbor catches me as soon as I pull in the drive, "i need you to look at this and that and then that and this" [verymad] I dont mind these things so much and it must be obvious or everyone wouldnt keep asking me to do their crap but man its getting old quick. If all these vehicles I listed had a cummins in them it wouldnt be so bad, but they dont. How do I tell them that I need to start making money on some of these repairs???? They do watch my dog for me when I go out of town, but I watch all three of theirs when they go!!! :o If I charged for the repair work i did for others, I would already have my Edge EZ and my ceramic clutch, and my extra set of wheels wrapped in superswamper 34x10.50x17 for the winter driving of the dually!!

Oh yea, did I mention these repairs are alway made for free. I get paid nothing from any of them. [verymad] Its never offered [verymad]

P.S. To those of you who have recieved my services on your Dodge ram Cummins powered truck, this letter is not directed to you in any way. I find it relaxing working on the cummins engines and dodge truck  [laugh]

dodgeguy71
08-26-2006, 12:10 PM
Dmax, charge them. I charge $40/hour at my house for repairs and more for when I have to go to their house as in tractor repairs. Our education as mechanics was'nt free....and if they are not happy let them price the repair out at a dealer and see how much of a bargain they are getting from you. I even go as far as marking my parts up 25%, hey I have to drive to town and find parts, burn fuel, my time.....it ain't free, I just try and keep it fair. Heck, my brother in law and my sister even pay me for repairs on their cars. I cut them a heck of a deal, but still get paid and they even offer.

streetsmoker
08-26-2006, 03:03 PM
Hey, I know the feeling. Not the mechanic stuff, but just free labor in general. It usually goes like this: "Hey John, you got a......(insert one of many tings here such as trailer, big strong truck, extra hands, etc.) can you come over and help do................whatever?" I say sure, never ask for anything but get frustraed at times that it's never offered. Then whenever I need the help, nobody is to be found or they're all busy. [verymad] [verymad] [verymad]

Well, tomorrow I take my "Bell" into the body shop for repairs from my Mexican incident. The insurance put time on there for R&R toolbox, bedrails, and such so today I removed the box, bedrails, my "C"ummins emblem, slt and Dodge2500, Cummins turbo diesel emblems. They said they were going to replace them anyhow so I took them off myself. Did not want them ending up in the body shop guys toolbox when I could have them....there mine anyhow right! Have to go out and unhook my trailer harness to, bed has to come off or slide back and don't want them to try and have to figure out how I have all that connected then get it back and it not work. Cleaned out from behind the seat too!! Holy Cow!! How can you have a large box full of stuff behind that seat?? Tools, tools.....cb(been meaning to hook up), more tools. Probably rebuild the darn engine on the side of the road with all the stuff I had behind the seat!! [laugh] [laugh]

I hope to have it back by the 9th of September. There is a big antique tractor show in Eagleville that weekend. But then I still have to put it back together, toolbox, etc. Called my investigating agent on friday, left a message. "Please call me so I know wether I need $500/200 or 0 for my deductable" Never heard back from her. Makes ya start to think about a new insurance company. Guy who hit me, no insurance...I have paid for uninsured driver for years, but we don't know who was at fault...ahhhhhh, I have a dent in my drivers door?? I was going straight in my lane, not changing lanes...was finished with that...I was going straight...who's at fault??? [duhhh] [duhhh]
