In the first issue of Diesel Tech magazine during their 'real world' test of the 40hp nozzles from Dynomite Diesel, the nozzles produced a 0.5 mpg increase on an '07 5.9 MegaCab during a 1600 mile road trip.

I got a good solid 1.5 MPG increase with Don Ms F1 Flux 40 HP injectors and it really woke up the bottom end. Of course my truck is a 03 SO so it needed the help.

Farmerjim, I have a 03 SO also and it needs some help. I was wondering how much $ for a set of those injectors? I am not familiar with the injectors at all, How are they different than stock?

They are $1100 and you have to send your injectors in to Don M and he rebuilds them with new tips and checks them out completely. Google Formula One Diesel. You have to go thru one of his dealers but you can pull the injectors yourself or have a local mechanic pull them and they will give you the information necessary to get them to him. They usually get back in a 4 or 5 day turnaround. This was one of the best upgrades I made on my 03. Do a search on here on F1 injectors and you will find out that many on this forum think that these are the best injectors.

They simply allow more fuel to be injected. On the CR engines the injector nozzle holes are honed out which means when the injector is energized more fuel can flow through it (just imagine a shower head with drilled out spray nozzles). More fuel per injection cycle means more power. It also seems to have the effect of finishing it's injection earlier when at heavy power, more fuel can be injected in less time. This means the burn can be completed slightly earlier and helps keep the EGT down.

You really need to do a search on F1 injectors as there is a lot of reading already posted. But the F1 injector tips are not just honed out tips. Don M did years of research and development and his 40 HP injectors do not have larger holes they have smaller holes and better spray patterns for a more efficient and complete fuel burn thus giving more power and milage. They are made of better material and tested much more harshly to assure performance and reliability.

I went with the 40 HP as I am not trying to go for outragous HP. I have a TST box but only run it on the 2 setting for towing. I had a TST throttle plate in my 96 and was well satisfied with it and so I bought the TST box when I got my 03. If I had it to do over again I would probably go with the 40 HP injectors and just advanced timing. I have run my TST on the 1 setting (timing only) and the injectors and that gives me an additional 40 HP for a total of 80. Since I already have the TST I run it on 2 for additional fuel duration and another 40 HP. That puts me up into the 350 to 370 HP range but it also would slip the OEM clutch if I got on it to hard towing. That is why I put in a South Bend Con/Ofe clutch. I tow a 30ft 5er that is about 12K loaded.

I know South Bend speaks for itself, and they have a great reputation, but just wanted your personal opinion on it. How do you like the OFE? Unloaded? Loaded? Powered up, have you really leaned on the clutch with the TST turned up a wick or 2 (or 4 or 5) I run around on 5 across the board daily (HP5 TQ5 RP5 TT05) and love it. I am in need of another clutch, and going to go South Bend again. I picked up a used one awhile back, and has lasted under some serious abuse

The DDP 50 hp tips will increase your fuel economy. In TDR they did a great test on a 2005 CR. Running on winter fuel they got close to a 3 mpg increase and 50 hp and 100 tq.
As they increased the programmer to higher levels, they got even more hp/tq.
A very worthwhile investment. I changed mine about 6 weeks ago. The computer is finally learning that I have the new nozzles. The 50 hp tips are more inline with increased efficiency, not necessarily more flow. That's where the power and economy come in to play.

The ofe is great, as far as operation I see little or no difference it does grab a little quicker but nothing harsh. The peddal pressure I can not tell any difference and I did not get the upgraded hydralics. I had it put in in Montana on a trip to the west coast with the 5er. Went on to the coast and then back to IL so I pulled some fair grades with it and not one sign of slippage. That was on the 2 setting and I have not run it on any higher setting. Am only looking for towing power and good millage. With my setup I suspect that my torque is around the 600 range and the ofe is ratted for more than that. I am sure that I could turn the TST up and stress the clutch but I am to old for that kind of fun.

I can tell pedal pressure is slightly stiffer (living near Houston, alot of stop/go traffic). But nothing that is dramatic. Too old you say, but you have the TST and injectors
