MP-8 users, power linearity questions

hey folks, I had a question on the power settings with the MP-8. I see alot of references to percentages and I understand those are being strictly off of where the dot on the dial rests, but has anyone every actually tested them?

I only ask because on mine that I just installed, I really can't tell any difference at all in the way the truck runs or even on the RP gauge unless I have the dial to atleast what I would guess is 40-50%. Below that it doesn't seem like truning the dial does anything. I even put the smarty back to stock to try that and it was the same.

Does that sound right? I know it is supposed to be 0-100HP.
Is the powers increase so slight below that 40-50% that I won't notice it much?
just looking for opinions.

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Mine is the same, i guess we don't feel anything cause the Smarty does a pretty good rampup of rail pressure til about 50%. After that you can definitely tell its there. If you drive down the road at about 60-70mph and adjust it fback and forth from 0-100 you can feel it change.

Hey, Sir...

Adding to what I said yesterday, I did not notice a big difference with stock sticks... I could leave it on 100% and not have any surging issues.

After I added the Don M specials, I can really tell it...

There is a test and tune here, if I can ever get an appt, I'll jot down some figures.

Time for some more mods, Sir! With you and the Maj's (or lite Col?) pay, you should be jammin!

Your switch may have broken contacts!

The pot switch on the MP8 sucks. It is pretty cheap with its 3 PC board contacts hanging out. I broke 2 of them until I finally bought a new one from an electronics store.

The first time I broke the switch the MP8 defaulted to 100%. The second time I broke it, it defaulted to 0%.

When I put an ohm meter to the TS supplied switch it was a very linear 0-10,000 ohm if I remember correctly so I replaced it with a similar spec switch that had its contacts better protected from the environment.

Thanks Mark

Oh I hear ya on the pay, however have you seen my sig pic? That thing tends to eat a good portion of that pay if you know what I mean, especially since I am getting ready to up the ponnies on that again. Pulling the engine out of it tomorrow after some x-mas cruising later.

JStieger, that is easy enough to check I guess.

Rip112, I have tried that and can tell for sure doing that, but to me it still seemed more pronounced after 50% and that may be totally correct. You guys know how it is. get something new and drive yourself crazy playing with it.

I noticed the same with the old Edge EZ. Couldn't really tell much of a difference running the 50hp setting but could on the 70hp.

RonP you're definitely right about how pronounced the MP-8 is. I guess it also depends on the levels ran, I know I could feel more instantaneous power on the sw1 than vs sw5 or sw7. The higher the level you go the more % it takes to feel the mp-8s presence. But it is definitely a big help for me. I hope 1 day TS will upgrade the MP-8 to a more user friendly and statistically accurate box, they have the tune down IMO.

Well I played a little more today and it does seem to work well. I measured the resistance on the dial and it is a very smooth transition from low side to the high side of resistance. I have it set at what is right about 50% right now as far as resistance goes on the dial.

Then my walbro died as seen in another post.

Thanks guys
