Don't buy Napa mounts!
The following pictures show the AutoZone, stock, and NAPA mounts. Look at the thickness of the NAPA mount. I included the boxes for part number reference.
Dave, you might want to throw this in the reference list if you think it might help.

Good catch!

Not only do the metal components look thinner, the entire assembly appears shorter in hight. Seems it might make the engine sit low compared to OEM.

I had NAPA recheck the part in their computer and this is what they sell.
Notice the AutoZone mounts are completely encased in rubber, so there is shock absorbtion both directions.

It may look a lot weaker, and it probably is but the oem mounts are extreme over kill. We have become used to everything being bigger on diesels but its not always needed. But I'd still go with heavier mounts myself, its just I buy nothing from Auto Zone.

I don't know that the OEM mounts are overkill, I run the OEM mounts and have broken several of them, the rubber delams from the torsional stresses. I'd use OEM or the best after market mount I can find, and inspect them occasionally. I'm not a big fan of AutoZone either, I'm now using mounts for another B model app and they seem to hold up better.

I'v never broken one, but when mounts break its usually the rubber seperation, its not a fault of the metal breaking.

When I did my Cummins 4BT swap I thought I wanted the stock type NV4500 tranny mount. Went to NAPA and they had it in stock, but I choked on the price even for 'NAPA Quality'! So I went down to the Shucks [Checker / Shucks / Kragen etc.] store and had a look. SAME EXACT MOUNT, right down to the little sticky decal on the side of mount, and both made in the same factory: IN INDIA! $14 cheaper at Shucks.

I made my own out of some old 360 motor mounts instead

I can tell you that those NAPA mounts would bend the first time I dumped the clutch. I could bend the metal retainers by hand. Occasionally AutoZone screws up and supplies a good part, and this is one of those times. It's not likely to de-laminate any time soon because of the additional rubber sandwich on the restraints. I'll keep ypu all posted on the longevity.
I will no longer assume NAPA supplies the best parts anymore!

Mhuppertz, how are the autozone mounts holding up?? Looks like it has been a couple years since this thread started.

They are doing great so far, and that while being soaked with oil from my timing cover/cover seal leaks. I have banged on them hard and they have not bent or broken. I recommend them over the weak NAPA units.

the metal was the only thing holding the engine in place for a long while. I dont think those small ones would have held it.
