I thought we better start a general chapter thread so we have a central place to cuss and discuss amongst ourselves.

Mike ... any info to put out for the Rogersville Drags in June ?

Everyone have a great weekend !!

Still on. John Isaacs of Floor It will be doing the dyno. I think the track owner is putting the flyer together and I will post that as soon as he is done. Hoping to have 1 heads-up pro-street style class and 2 bracket classes. One for manuals and one for automatics.

i'm hopin to have my injector problem fixed. dropped #3 saturday.

05-15-2007, 12:18 PM
It has dawned on me that the quickest way to resolve the various issues my truck is continuing to develop is a quarter stick of dynamite and a half gallon of gasoline......
anybody up for another BBQ???????

DieselDaze

Mmmmm.... diesel marinated BBQ?

EPA may complain, but tasty!

Pack ... what do you mean you dropped # 3 ? It just quit or plugged or what ? These aren't the stock injectors are they ?

Chris ... you got another problem pop up on ya ?

Sounds like we definately need to have a wrenching day. I know B.E.R.T. could use some attention.

Rich ... are you gonna make it down to Rogersville for the races ?

the high rail pressure that the common rail engine plus some of the things done to my truck kinda made the body and tip crack. well it actually made 3 of them crack. yay for me. but it's runnin like a champ now i finally got it fixed. and i'm hopin it stays that way. and chris if you're planning on making a diesel BBQ, make sure my truck is no more than 10" away. and i'll be sure to have a full tank of fuel. and i got stacks now. i'm not sone with them though, gotta cut the tops to make them mitre and make me a cover for the pipe in the bed.

Well lets see... teh speedo quit again and i cant ge tit going, I have replaced everything but the wires in teh harness[verymad]
have a vacum leak or some other problem that is causing a lot of blow-by, cant trace it down to be sure......
fuel gauge isnt working right, never sure how much is in teh tank, and with the speedo/odometer down, cant track it by mileage .......
Coolan tleak "fixed itself"....like I trust that??????? probably need a head gasket before I hydrualically break a piston or two..
LR wheel seal has gone out again, so new seals and shoes again....

is that enough for a start????????????[duhhh] [duhhh] [duhhh] [duhhh] [duhhh]

That ol' truck is definately well "broken" in [laugh] . Mine has a few issues that I really should get around to fixing but since they aren't safety items or something that keeps me from rolling ... they can wait.

They had some kind of Model A get-together out here in Mtn. Grove the past few days .... probably 50 of em lined up in the grocery store parking lot this evening. Neat to see. I heard there is going to be a truck pull at the fairgrounds tomorrow ... may have to check that out.

Cheers,

Speaking of model A's I saw 3 or 4 of them a week ago traveling down I-70 in a convoy all with north carolina plates. That must have been a long drive in one of those.
Speaking of meckanical problems last week I had to replace both my front knucle U jounts in my front axle. While it was down i noticed the lower ball joints had some play so I replaced all 4 of them and also installed new brake rotors while it was apart. The only problem now is it looks like the right axle seal got damaged when we removed and installed the axle. When I came outside yesterday I noticed a small puddle of oil by the wheel and saw it was comeing out of the end of the axle tube and the truck had only been parked for about an hour. Anyone know how hard it is to replace that seal? do you have to remove the 3rd member to get to it? I guess I will just have to keep it topped of with oil for know.

PistolWhipt
05-20-2007, 04:54 PM
Is it the inner seal on the driver's side ? That's the one that I screwed up (still not fixed). If I remember correctly, you get at it thru the pumpkin ... so all the guts have to come out.

PISTOL

astevenson
05-21-2007, 09:25 PM
No it's the pasenger side seal. I was afraid someone would say that. If its got to be torn down that far I guess both should be replaced. Still not sure if this is something I want to take on. I guess I will just get a bottle of oil and keep topping it off for now.

Guys, I made another post and put a link to the race and dyno day at the track on June 9th. Sounds like an excuse for MODTR-30 BBQ. And Chris, no silver 1st gens are allowed on the grill.

Yee-haw ... that's the day before I hit the big Four-Oh !! Heck of a deal.

Thanks for posting the flyer Mike.

It's been a while since I was at that place ... is there a spot in the parking lot for us to meet up ?

Well, wouldn't ya know it ... I won't be able to make it to the drags. Got a new job and they will have me in Tucson for a couple weeks.

Hope everyone enjoys themselves ... and gets some good numbers on the dyno.

Please pass the word about the GTG ... this will be a great opportunity to expand the chapter a bit. Lemme know if there is anything I can do prior to next Friday Mike.

Hey Chief,

We have been trying to put some kind of a get together each month. Most of the time that works ... sometimes not. MCOLEMAN set up this months GTG at the Rogersville drag strip and it should be a good one !!

That being said ... I believe that we should be having a Hail & Farewell get-together (of sorts) towards the end of July / early Aug so that we can all meet you and some of the other new members. We'll get you guys signed up and duly initiated .... er, uh ... show you a good time [coffee] .

If you wouldn't mind, keep us updated on your approx. return date.

By they way ... my family and I thank you for your service and the 14 months of being separated from your loved ones to serve our country !! HOOYAH NAVY CHIEFS !!

Seemed like a mighty small gathering. Where'd everybody gooooooo?????? Well I had fun anyway. Put the truck on the dyno not that it was moded as far as I knew. First run 349,389,353HP, highest torque 777. Now the crazy thing was the dyno patterns were totally weird. I'll get the dyno sheets put on here soon, but the pattern had loops in it. John from Floor It said he'd never seen anything like it. Maybe a bad turbo welded crack on exhaust side? Then I went back for three more runs 9 this time and everything seemed normal 342-347HP no loops in the pattern. I thought I bought a stock used truck seems someone left a 80-90hp downloader on it.
Oh the drags were great too. Lots of smoke and rubber everywhere. Seeing a 4x4 still trying to get hooked up 60+ft down truck is kind of different.

I'd like to come but we race our dirt late model both of those nights. The 20th in grain valley and the 21st in warnsburg. Valley has a 11pm curfue for the track so maybe I can meet up with some of you after the races. The last time I went to a pull they ran the diesels last and it didn't get over with until late.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been on here for a while...after I got my warning from the webmaster about one word i shouldn't have posted i got mad...

but anyhow, i'll be at the platte city pull...it's like 30 minutes south of me and i pulled in it last year...we should pick a place to meet up when we get there...or at least give the rookies (me) descriptions of what trucks or to look for...or follow the local police??? lol...either works...

Pack Mule
07-11-2007, 11:35 PM
well if everything goes as planned follow the local law, now wat we gona do is come rockin hard from the south, and then......... i'll keep you in suspense till the day arrives, you'll know what to look for. a gray mega cab with stacks. that's what i'll be in, near, close to, somethng of that nature. and hookin to the sled of course, i'm lookin forward to the butt kickin i will be receivin.

07-12-2007, 06:14 PM
haha, yea pack mule...they load that sled HEAVY since it is an Outlaw pull...made a joke of my 96 last year...lol...but it was still fun...

guess i'll keep watching and see if anything new comes up closer to the time of the pull

Pack Mule
07-12-2007, 10:41 PM
i've pulled the iron man sled several times when we ran with outlaw for a few years. i like how easy it takes off. but talk about stoppin ya when the pan hits. i'm hopin to be makin alot more hp when i get there but the way it's goin i'm won't be.

CTDYoungGun
07-12-2007, 11:04 PM
yea, I thought the same...it takes off smoother and gentler on the truck...

but when the sled operator sets it to hit...it hit like a 40,000 lb sled...lol...

so what all new mods are you looking to get down before then?

Pack Mule
07-12-2007, 11:26 PM
the main one is the charger. i can't get it to quit leakin oil out the exhaust. i'm gonna Industrail tomorrow and ask then how to fix it. hopefully it's repairable. then i'll stick my cp3 on it. that way it'll be makin 100+ more hp.

i'm doing plenty of those now, along with just about every injection pump ever thought of...i got a new job at a performance diesel shop up in savannah missouri doing pump, turbo, and injector repairs

Pack Mule

Ok, the BOSS wants to know who is actually entering the pull,....
Pack sounds like he is.. anyone else?
and if anyone has been there before, is this grandstand seating or bring a lawn chair ? and are we grilling in the parking lot? I got a mini-propane grill( 24X24 inches) I can bring...

CTDYoungGun

I'll be able to make it tomarrow .Our dirt car got tore up last week and we wern't able to get it put back together to race friday night so I get to watch the pulls. I doubt I will enter the pull but I'll definatly come and watch and help in anyway possible. Is there a higher charge to get into the pits? Is that were we should all meet? The last time I went to a pull I was able to just dive into the pits and park with the other trucks that were pulling.

CTDYoungGun
07-19-2007, 10:13 PM
yea, it costs like $25 to get into the pits...and since it's oulaw i think you have to be pulling to park there...

i guess i'll check back here tomorrow to see if anybody has any good ideas for a place to park together or meet up...i'll be bringing a truckload of people down and another load will follow me...so i'll be doing good to get there and watch the pull...lol

Well, we looked around, couldnt find you guys...
we sat right below the announcers stands up next to the fence... wow, good show and some realy sweet trucks!

The turbines were neat, but I think I enjoyed the Street Stock class the most, but I do wonder , just how much modding is allowed and still be considered "street stock"??
There were a couple of those trucks that werent too dern "stock"[laugh] Made me feel for the couple guys who were obviously hooking up with their daily drivers..

Teh F250 with teh cummins conversion was neat, did a heck of a good job too...My favorite had to be the Sheides Diesel 3500 in the Open class tho, looked like he could have taken that sled all the way to St. Louis if he had wanted to!

Looks like a pretty expensive hobby tho...but I'd love to try it just once to see what it feels like.....but with my luck, I'd be one of those guys where we heard the loud "POP" and everyone goes "awwwww...too bad"[laugh]

Had fun, The BOSS is addicted I think.. she loved it and wants a pulling truck now[laugh][laugh][laugh]

It does give one a better apreciation for teh power potential of these engines! I think I am starting to come down with the BOMB Bug.. on the way home I was explaining to the BOSS how I didnt want to start doing anything to the truck with out a pyro first to keep an eye on things , and she replied,"well, guess WE need to get one then".....gee I love that girl![coffee]

Pack Mule
07-21-2007, 06:56 PM
it's alot more addisting than you know. once you finally do it and you figure out your truck how to take off oh gee, it's sooooooo bad addicting. cause all you can think of is how much more power you can make and how much better you can do at the next one. i'm still ticked i didn't get to make it.

I was there in the pits. I was kind of every where but I spent most of the time with the guy that drove that copper colerd ram in the street class. It was funny watching them beating a set of oversized center caps into his rear wheels becouse they would not let them run with the rear axle bolts exposed.

Made it to Marshfield. Tristan21 and I got together since I gave him my ph#. He was going to pull but forgot a few important things and was a little a woried about breaking. We had a good time. 20 or so diesels, a long wheel base class and a short wheel base class? Kind of strange but they weren't even talking about the diesels haveing a pull. Most of the trucks were stock of close to it. The short wheel base a Ford was the winner. From the smoke he was blowing he was not close to stock. The long wheel base was taken by a 07 dodge dually, obviously had the 6spd auto in it. It had Baily diesel on the door. Have to pull my tuck sometime when I don't need it the next day to go 200mi.

Hey Darren it was good to meet ya. I ended up going to church yesterday, after leaving the pull soo late, then we went to silver dollar city with the kids for a few hours and then had to be back to drop the kids off at vacation bible school and meet a few guys over at the shop to give them tools for tomorrow.

Needless to say it was a tiring day. Sorry I was a little spaced out at the pull, im a little on edge these days with, tryin to quit smoking, a buisness to run and 5 kids full of activities and excitement. Anyway im hoping to try my first pull at the springfield fair on the on Aug. 4th. I think it starts @ 4:45 acording to the web site. Hope some of you can attend.

I suppose that will all have to do with if I get the Auora 5000, snow, inj., head studs and TST put on before then. We'll see, Ive got a long week ahead of me and my truck needs to get me to work all week while i'm working @ Kraft.

By the way in case I was sidetracked or forgot to tell you I thought your "science experiments" were interesting to say the least. Innovation has to start somewhere and its nice to see somebody else tryin stuff. Hope you get the 3rd gens figured out.

By the way my oldest daughter had a lot of nice things to say about yours, they seemed like they got along pretty good.

It will be in harisonville MO august 11. fully caterd meal. Displays put on by the local chevy ford and dodge dealers. Then every one was going to convoy to KCIR to watch the tapeing of speed channels tv series pinks. I was planning on calling john at floor it on monday to see if he could bring his dyno to the event. They were wanting a head count by the 1st so the food providers could get enough food. the outlaws are a big association here in the midwest for truck and tractor pulling...my boss pulls superfarm with the outlaws...

the association travels farther and is basically a higher stakes and higher money pulling league, and no they don't have diesel pickups...platte city and mcclouth kansas outlaw pulls are/have had the diesel pickups sponsored but they have no affiliation with the outlaws

We've been trying to leave around 5:30 am to go get our riding in. By 8:30 in the morning the horses will already be soaked. Have to keep the ole electrolyte paste in the saddle bags on days like this just in case.

We try and use the old code of adding the temp and the humidity together to determine when it is safe to ride. Anything over 180 is no go for any horse regardless of condition according to the folks that are supposed to know it all.[laugh]

To determine whether your horse’s ability to sweat will be affected, add the outside temperature to the level of humidity for that day. For example, if it is 90ºF outside with a relative humidity of 15%, your total will be 105. If the number you get from adding these two together is less than 130, then your horse will be able to cool himself with little or no problems. If the number falls within 130-150, then the ability to cool will be moderately affected. If the number falls within 150-180, then the ability to cool will be greatly affected and your horse will probably need assistance in doing so. If the number is above 180, all normal cooling mechanisms will not work and you should take extreme precautions to protect your horse in this dangerous zone.

This comes from the University extension office and the Endurance riding folks. WHERE IN THE HECK IS THE HUMIDITY ONLY 15%? [laugh]

ya'll missed one heck of a time at the cruise. can you believe some people don't like the black smoke?? talk about wierdo's. saturday night we had 16 diesel's together makin tons and tons of smoke. it was great i broke my traction bars and ended up having to take them off. there was alot of people that loved it though. i even had permission from several cops to do it, some of them wouldn't let me though. i'll hopefully have pics to post on here for ya'll.

Ok! I know you guy's are a bunch of animals. Back to the trucks. I was in Branson Friday night and I did see three Dodge diesels trailing each other. Only saw them going west they never came back while I was there. Who were they?
I'd love to get together if I had the time. It is kind of hot for horse rideing as well as working outside. We're so scatterd out it's hard to find a location that's works for everyone. I know there are more people around Springfield who occasionaly drop in on us here. Just wish they would make it a point to meet here some where.

I missed the cruise for the first time in a long time. We had tickets to go to the drive-in through the wifes work and received them about 3 weeks prior to the movie. By the time the movie got over with it would have been 12:30 when I rolled into Branson which is way past my bedtime. So we went to the house instead of trekking to Branson.

I made it back home for a few days ... WHO LEFT THE HEAT ON ??? Good Lord it's hot around here !! Went out to work on the truck yesterday and actually broke a sweat ..... luckily I had plenty of frosty cold adult beverages in the fridge to fight off the heatstroke [laugh].

Man ... you guys have been busy. Everyone's meetin' up, smoking out and by the sounds of all the eating going on ... gaining a couple lbs along the way !!

Anything happening this week / weekend ?? I'm hoping to be in town long enough to meet up with you guys.

Pack Mule
08-18-2007, 11:30 AM
i'm thinkin nevada the 24th. it's their county fair. spring river valley pulling association will have their sled there. the 25th there will be one in my back yard if anyone wants to come down. it'll be marshfield assoc. comin down for it. it's in jasper AR which is about 15 minutes (depending on your driving habits) so for anyone else it'd be about 25-30 minutes from harrison. i'm wanting to invite everyone down and go floating but we haven't had any rain in about 3months.

Pack Mule

Ground Shaker
08-18-2007, 03:35 PM
I think I just might have to do that. You should be gettin some rain today its has been on and off here in springfield all day, tv and internet was jsut down for about an hr. How far away from Springfield are the pulls. I know harrison is right down and off 65. Just gettin an idea.

Pack Mule
08-18-2007, 03:55 PM
it takes approx 1hr and 15minutes to get here depending on your driving habits. if you was to come from republic it would actually be shorter for you to go towards kimberling city and turn left in branson west and head towards the dam and go that way. time wise hwy 65. it's south of harrison on 7south 24 miles to the fairgrounds from town.

Ground Shaker
08-19-2007, 12:45 AM
Hmmmm, depending on what happens this week I would definately be interested. I got to run over to Joplin and pick up some part for my exhuast and if I can get the stacks on this week and maybe my injectors in I just might come. Right now I'm out of the tubing running from the wastegate to the compressor housing so I got to find that somewhere out here and if thats the case I will put the 40 on, stacks on, and maybe injectors and tubes. Hopefully it will hold as I prolly won't have time to install the head studs this week with all the things running. If anyone knows where I can get the wastegate tubing around here let me know asap.

Where and what is going on the 25th?
I was actually thinking of going to Terre Haute, Indiana for the Schieds Extravaganza the 24,5,6th.

I was thinking about heading to Schied but I'm not sure if its going to be in my price range. As I told Matt the other night i just moved into my new place and money is tight at the moment, especially with some of the classes I'm taking the Tree I think I might head down to AR with Pack and maybe see whats going on down in his neck of the woods next weekend for a day. How many trucks, diesels that is, normally show up? What time do the diesels pull? Is it one of those deisels are last at about 12 or 1am? I know where Jasper is I used to live in Dogpatch. The fair grounds are on the hill just past Jasper if I remember correctly. Looks like the weather might mess up the Schieds pull. I'll probably be down there, not pulling just enjoying the show. Ok Ground Shaker if you want to tag along that would be ok. I know the roads and the location so try to keep up. Just kiding I'm not raceing either. Send me a PM if you want to get together.

I'm trying to help you out here. You probably saw my post about Eastern KS.[director] Well Chris that's your chance to get some of John's customers recruited into the DTR chapter for you. I would bet John would let you advertise at the event. As many pulling trucks that John helps build they can't all be driveing to Missouri to pull. I'll bet John knows where a lot of pulls in your area are. Might be good to put a thread over on the Competion thread about the Floor it dyno day with date to be anouced, if your sure that John is really going to have one. Probably draw in a lot of people who don't look at this thread.
