what mods work well for balanced power? twin ram worth the money?

I just trolling for info right now balancing cost with benefit.

Im trying to determine at what point in the 700-800 ft/lb mark you loose control of EGTs. Also i would just like to see what towing application combos people are running with good results (not running 1500 egts pulling and still getting 400000 miles out of this motor)

i currently have a 96 180hp motor tied to a nv5600 and a NP205 T-case (Installed in a 1996 F250)

Mods include
4" turbo down exhaust w/ muffler
K&N cone filter
#5 tst plate
HX35/40 hybrid 60mm 6 blade fan 16cm exhaust housing
full throttle it pushes 36-38 lb boost

So now i am looking to get my torque numbers up, lengthening my torque curve and be able to use the torque on long grades with 20k plus on the trailer, right now i have to back out of the throttle at 28# boost and 50-55mph @1100-1150 egts (mounted on the hot side)

so what kind of parts combination should i look at to get into the mid 750-800 ft/lb ball park and not sky rocket my egts loose mileage or breaking the pocket book.

i have considered the following all together as a possible path to my goal

dropping down one plate size and adding 370hp injectors or DD stage 2 injectors
14cm WG housing (also what do i set the WG to? 32-34#?)
Piers cam?
Banks Twin Ram intake?

the last two are questionable on which i will do i dont know if either is worth it in my application. I can install the cam myself.

Overall im looking to keep up with the chipped 24's Dmaxes and Pstrokes that run in my group, im the dog and it might be my driving style.

thanks guys

you can go to 1250 on the egts without any problems, and a set of 215 injectors would do you well or a set of 300's.i have 370s and a 215 pump with a #10 and i can tow insane amounts of weight. i just have to watch my gauge. it is not that big of a deal, i just have to back out on some of the big stuff when i am in the 26 to 28k gross range. mike

if you dont mind me asking What kind of timing are you running with that setup and what other mods have you done? past just the stock 215hp pump, 370 injectors and #10 plate? Did your mileage go in the tank with the 370's ? how about towing mileage? are you running 4.10's or 3.55's? Maybe i should just look in the direction of injectors i just dont want to over fuel my system (get another warning from california smoke *****, turbo was out at that time but the inconvenience of spending 2 hours negotiating my way out) and still have great power.

thanks for the info

bumping my timing to 16 degress helped with the smoke. i can still let it fly but i have control of it with my foot. your truck sounds like a good set up the way you have it. i think you need to tell your buddies to put some gauges in there trucks. if they are hauling the weight you are they are hot. and don't worry, 1200 won't hurt anything. heck i think cummins says 1250 all day and 1300 for 30 seconds. and mine hase seen 1500 plenty of times. sounds like you need to drive a bit more agressively, you should be ******* them.

370s might be more than your delivery valves can handle and they smoke pretty good. i would look out for a cheap set of 215s i think they are worth 25 to 30 hp in your truck. my miliage stayed the same with all the mods till i put on the 5" exhaust, then i lost 1 mpg. i had a 4" straight system on it and i should have left it on there. i have 3.54 gears, my towing miliage is great as long as i don't go too fast then it falls quick. mike

Re:what mods work well for balanced power? twin ram worth the money?

Cummins recommends a 1350 max for egts, but because of the inaccuracy of gauges they suggest 1300. I have read in Cummins info the the engines can run at 1300 all day long without a problem. 1500 degrees isn't unreasonable as long as it isn't held for longer than a couple of seconds.
Hope this helps some.
