Well with my latest purchase of a frame with the cab forward sheet metal has pushed up my projects. Poor old Moose has a bad case of cancer, so the body was in order.

Well first off, toss the factory mirrors and spend a few hours welding the holes in

Then spend a few hours making brackets.

Once that is done it is time to skin the brackets.

These mirrors are from CIPA and are heated and power. The extension of the mirrors are manual. These are made for GM truck 88-98. I know none of the finish body work is done in the pics, but this weekend it is getting sprayed. Yes the body work is done now.

Nice work but aren't the bracket a little too far toward the rear of the door ?

I know some people don't use the vents but I love mine and can't stand the new one piece windows. I crack mine even in the winter to keep air flow thru the truck. And nothing feels better than the vents turned all the way around and having the air blow directly on you at 70 mph - ALMOST as good as A/C when the temps and humidity are below 90* ...

Vent windows -- other than the Cummins, the single best thing about my First Gen.

I did a lot of measuring and figuring before I made the brackets. The vent windows will still open. The rear bracket is at the hinge for the vent window(I think [duhhh]). I will have to put in the vent windows and see.

The truck getting painted has been pushed back. Darn work wants to make money this weekend rather than spraying my truck for just the cost of materials. [laugh]

Bruiser, Thanks and for sure no shaking. The angle iron is 3/4" . It will give me some viewing also, CIPA calls these mirrors 10" x 10". I know on the GM they were night and day compared to the factory mirrors.

On the old truck it didn't matter. With the mirrors being powered, all you do is adjust them to check the tires. Pulling my 5ver it is hard to see the tires as it is. I am more worried about the idiots behind me.

We've never had a deck-over trailer, at least not one without 14 or 16 feet of dump box between you and it, and coming from the farm you were almost always able to see at least where your front trailer tires were going. I like having them were I can just see the tire on the edge of the mirror. Just where I like them. That's one thing I didn't like about the 07 chevy I had, the mirrors were shaped around the hinge in the housing, and without power anything, I had to compromise on seeing the side of the truck or seeing what's behind me. I much prefer the ones on the 89. And anyone who goes sticking spot mirrors on my mains will be getting their butt kicked!

If I could still find the 3 1/2 inch bracket-mount spot mirrors I would mount them up on the edge of the hood somehow.

Well spent some time today and got the truck painted! [roll] Here are the mirrors installed.

This is only a small part of the truck build, so when it is all done I will start a new thread showing everything with description.

This is just a little part of the overall project. Now to make the custom flatbed. Take the drive train out of Moose and put it in Moose 2.0. Rebuild the Getrag, tcase, D70, D60 and head studs. Oh and then need to finish the exhaust.

I didn't mention, but Moose is my daily driver. So the change over has to be on a long weekend. The rebuilds can be ongoing. But the change over has to be done on a long weekend. The axles that are under the frame are a D44 on the front and D60 on the rear. Nothing a few hours and lots of coffee wont fix. [duhhh]
