I ain't buying....just looking. Thought it...interesting. How can they get away with that kind of advertising, especially if it doesn't work? I was getting a straight 20 mpg. Then I chipped the truck with a mild 50 hp -150 ft.lbs. of torque, added the exhaust system and the air box too. I'm hoping for another one to two mpg tho I'm not holding my breath either. There's a definite ceiling as to what a 6000+ lb diesel truck can get mpg wise. I'm left to wonder what that number is for MY truck??

Consumer Reports did a test on SEVERAL of those mileage boosting gadgets last year. This one and the TURBONATOR were both tested. What a freakin waste of time. Not only did it NOT help mileage, it dropped overall mileage and horsepower as it's introduction into the system was found to obstruct the efficiency of the air intake. Absolutely DOES NOT WORK and PROVEN not to. Hope this helps.

I think a cheaper way to achieve the same result would be to use a wooden block under the go pedal. The theory behind these devices is rubbish.
First of all, in a diesel the fuel is atomized by the injector. It isn't even present during intake (when this swirly thingy does it's magic) but it's injected towards the end of compression stroke.
Then there is the problem that the diesel engine we use is supplying just enough air for stock power- if you insert something that takes away the air (like this fancy restrictor) it will lead to a host of problems that the performance nuts on this site try to remedy for much cash with twin turbos, better cams etc- they want to get more air in to reduce EGTs and piston temperatures.
The swirl theory derives from the water bottle analogy- if you turn a water bottle over and let it drain you see pulses in the flow while the bottle gulps in air.
When you twist the bottle water exits quicker. The reason for this is that the swirl enables air to enter at the same time water exits. If you'd drill a hole into the bottom of the bottle and open it while emptying it you have an even higher volume of water coming out per second than with the swirl of the closed bottle. The bottle with the hole will empty slower when swirled.
All of this has almost nothing to do with air entering a cylinder- but it looks good when a snake oil seller demonstrates it for the crowd. And it gives me the opportunity to show off as a smart guy ;)

If you actually look at the "swirly" bottles of water, the one with the vortex still doesn't drain water much if any faster than just letting it gurgle!
I had a Tornado on my first Dodge- an '02 1500 w/5.9l, and it didn't do squat for it! What a waste of $75!
The best mileage booster is still a disciplined right foot!
