I have searched and read several posts on here, but have not been able to find the complete answer. I have a 2005 5.9 quad 4x4 6speed. Bone stock, other than an edge mileage max and a k&n filter. 74000 easy miles. I had 2 injectors go out last week that gave me the feared 'making oil' syndrome. The dealer fixed this under warranty, and said it was due to bad fuel. I questioned him on the filter.. and he said that when these filters get clogged, that they have a built in bypass that routes unfiltered fuel to the engine. Has anyone heard of this??

And, is this Edge Mileage Max a fuel pressure increasing box? I did see some gains in mileage, and felt more power, i would like to reinstall this box, but not at an injectors expense.

Your dealer is full of crap and you should run from them and never return. I have no clue as to what the mileage max does or does not do.
I feel you (and everyone) should have better than stock fuel filtration. Think/search CAT 1R-0749

Yep, I figured the same thing. I looked at the filter, and the housing.. and I see no bypass.

I sure wish I knew if the injector failures had anythign to do with that Edge box. I loved that extra bit of umph and 2 mpg better mileage.. but surely will give it up to get longevity.

About your Edge: the Mileage Max optimizing the timing and pressure of fuel delivery," So as you can see it states that it does raise up the fuel pressure and that's not good for stock injectors or so I've been told.

From all the posts about adding pressure over the last couple years, I don't think there is an issue with mild pressure increases. Changing pressure does not always mean tons more than stock, it can be stock levels just bumped up earlier in the rpm's.

I have been running a Quad Std, now X2, for over 25K on the lower settings and have not had any issues. I think bad fuel is usually the issue, and the pressure increase is just accellerating the wear. That's why all the talk of adding better filtration. Just as many stock trucks have reported injector issues as compared to trucks adding pressure.

my 02. is that right from the factory these injectors and the whole common rail system cummins puts on the dodges are crap. the injectors don't make it to far and they diffently should not have to be replaced at 150k like alot of people say they do, i realize things don't last forever and stuff has to be replaced but go look at the 12v's they don't stop. they work nice when they work but thats it, the 2002 and older style are the ways to go. alot of people will disagree and agree with me on this but......

this common rail system is actually great if you keep it maintained, which most people dont and this is sadly the case, which leads to the "bad" reputation this system gets because of unknowledgable people. these injectors dont last the longest because of the high pressure inside them and people not changing their filters like they are suppose to. dirty fuel will kill these injectors because of the high pressure on the internals slamming against this debris.
