Anyone interested?

Tony

Tony, Top says there may be two starting here. I'm interested in the west side first, if not then east or state wide.

Don

I Will be trying to direct members toward each area chapter that is close to them so they can discuss how close they are and decide which way to go. I know it isn't fool proof but not all members will respond openly like Don did to the area he is in.
Perhaps someone will think of a way to make this easier for everyone to come together than what we have at the moment. We are learning as we go here and PLEASE any suggestions are most certainly welcome!.

How about it Michiganders? Maybe some bomb sessions, breakfast meets, etc. I know there is the GLTDR, however so far there isn't a cost to this, there shouldn't be a conflict of intrests in clubs, any event you attend you can represent either membership.

Redleg and Tpilaske:

I just got the paperwork to start a chapter in Northwest Lower Michigan. I live in Leelanau County, northwest of Traverse City. Where are you guys at? The breakfasts and bombing meets sound like a great time. I'm also a member of the GLTDR, but I haven't been to any events yet. The distance has been a problem. I'm hoping that we can get some stuff going where people won't have to travel so far to participate. Drop me an IM, or e-mail me.

DeWain

I am in SE MI, just south of Detroit (Wayne County). I just re-read your post where you live, I was thinking you lived way down here on the west side! [laugh] We camp up at Muskegon SP & Silver Lake SP & Hartwick Pines SP alot! Always looking for other places to go in MI to camp as well! So we could pretty much meet anywhere! It's only about 4 - 4.5 hours to Traverse City from here! ;D I would say we should get a state wide going first, and then if it's big enough, divide the state up into smaller chapters! But, I think that would need to be cleared by big brother Top first! ;D

Tony

Top said that there was someone (I don't remember the name or screen name) in Lincoln Park, MI that wants to start a chapter. Is that down in your neck of the woods, Tony? If we all went with one chapter to get started, that would be fine with me. Hopefully we can get a few more responses to get a consensus.

DeWain

Tony,

I just cleared the "one statewide chapter" idea with Top. I'll hold off sending in my chapter paperwork until we can get an idea what most of the guys here would like to do. Do you know where Lincoln Park is?

DeWain

Work in Rockford (Grand Rapids), live outside Stanwood (up 131), got a cabin near Bristol (south of Cadillac). When the cabin remodeling is done (and I get all the nails picked up), I have a little room for camping, lots of fishing nearby, canoeing, and public forest. Lots of nice places for breakfast in the area. Lots of little villages with little museums. Nice rolling and wooded country side for weekend drives.

Dewain, use to work in Cadillac, been up your way quite a bit. Love that area too. Ive talked with some of the GLTDR and will probably join (just keep forgetting to get stamps), I was told they would consider coming west for a breakfast. Again, no reason it would hurt to belong to both. You guys fish too? Might be nice to meet one Saturday for breakfast and hit Tippy Dam for a while. Good Steelheading there.

Don

If the majority of you are in the north, then one of you can open the chapter and I can come up! Of course, we could all just meet in the middle too! ;D

Tony

Grew up in Lansing, lots of places to stay there if I need to. I don't need to look at the same thing every day, I'll travel. Just don't like getting into any more traffic than I have to. Lots of places for picnis in the summer too.

Unless you guys have an objection, I'll submit the chapter forms this week, or at least try to. I have to report for jury duty on Tuesday, and I don't know how that is going to mess up my schedule yet. If not during the week, on the weekend.
Redleg or Tpilaske, if one of you guys would rather do the registration, I can forward the forms to you. Just let me know.

DeWain

I already sent in the paperwork on friday, I wasn't sure if anyone was interested yet, so I just went ahead and sent it in to get something started. I guess we should first figure out where the majority of us are and find a central area to meet. By all means DPG, if you would like to be the first President, you got my nomination!

Tony

I got Tony's paperwork from the pony express today!, You guys just let me know how you want to do it because it is your chapter! I am just here to help if I can. Wherever you want to base the chapter at I will use the submission from that individual to start it. Later on if you get more guys interested in your own areas, we can split off to another chapter. I will try to help you guy's anyway I can!
Ok where the heck is MI? hmmmm go till it gets cold then go a little further awwwww there it is! [laugh]

I work 7 or 8 day stretches with every 3rd weekend off. I get a middle weekend of either tue/wed or wed/thur. I am currently on afternoons, so any breakfast within an hour or two is do-able. I have this weekend off. If any body wants to meet for breakfast and make club arrangements. Lots of outstanding places near me, and things to see if you want to make a day of it. Not so sure we need a "headquarters" at this point. Can probably do a monthly meet around the state to give everybody a break on milage. Preferably scenic locations. I would like bombing/repair sessions (have acouple of tools), and breakfasts betwwen the meetings.

Rob, if you want to bring more GLTDR members on board, they're welcome, not trying to replace anything. I plan to join them as well.

Don
Ok! All sounds good to me! Redleg has some great ideas there already! Unfortunately, this is probably a bad month to be starting things! I have no open weekends at all this month! Can't miss out on my MassDiesel trip on the 14th for the new upgrades! ;D Then i'm off to Florida for fun in the sun until the 30th! And this coming weekend, I have a stupid wedding to attend in the middle of the day on Saturday, and then a reception later in the evening. Why can't people just have the wedding and head directly to the reception? ??? How's everyone's December looking? I guess I should get your email addy's first eh? Send a request for a membership package to midtr@wideopenwest.com (if your interested that is!) and I can email the membership application to you. I guess that's a good place to start! I look forward to hearing from you! ;D

Tony

Great, sounds like we're leaning towards Traverse City on Saturday 12-21. Tony suggested Boone's for a steak. I would like to make it late afternoon sometime. Might go up early for some shopping and view Christmas lights. If anybody else is interested, the new freeway is open around Cadillac, and returns to two-lane a few miles north of town. Beautiful drive.
All would be welcome.

Also, I grew up in Lansing and would look forward to another meet in the Lansing/Jackson area as well.
Don

Hey Tony add two more. I've invited a good friend and his wife. He is a CTD owner (since about 1991) but does not have internet access. He's the one who got me hooked on the Dodge Cummins. We each have a son in college who will probably want to come also. So, it looks like 4 to 6 people from Leelanau county. (Most likely 6)

When I was a brave young (stupid) teenager ;D I had the nerve to throw an egg at a car one night out with a couple of buddies.

Just as I let go of the egg, I saw that big red cherry on top of the cruiser :o Immediately I skedaddled and hid in a big blackberry bush.(Even Dumber idea!)

The two troopers walked around that bush looking at me with their flashlights and I remember the oldest one saying, "I think he will remember the pain of this lesson longer than any we could have ever given him!"

That was one smart trooper! I had 5,000 little scratches to remember that lesson [laugh]
